The officer did good , except - he put the cuffs on wrong . If you put the cuffs right , BACK OF THE HANDS AGAINST EACH OTHER , if they " bring the cuffs up front #1 it's harder to do and #2 : The palms of their hands will be facing out . BAD HANDCUFF APPLICATIONS GET PEOPLE HURT .

Not a cop, but I have some personal experiences with cops (father is good friends with the local PD) and my friend is training to be a Mountie, so I’m still gonna weigh in here. First off: This was a demonstration… he probably did it the way people expect it to be done from media portrayals. Second, your arms are in a really awkward position if cuffed behind your back with palms out. Just from a quick test of that position without cuffs (just holding my hands against each other), I couldn’t bend my elbows without hurting myself: and I’m a really flexible guy. It’s actually probably better to cuff palms-in unless the suspect is dangerous, otherwise you risk causing nasty shoulder and arm injuries they can cry brutality over. Hell, a lot of people get cuffed in front so they fit more easily/comfortably in the back of the cop car.
