I totally agree! I entered the world of mechanics as a young boy as early as I can remember watching my Dad. He built and drove his own racing cars. He ran dirt, asphalt flat and grade. Before NASCAR he built and ran drag cars right out of the Army. But decided on NASCAR for the longterm. I was always in the shop watching, learning and taking things apart and figuring out how to put them back together again. I'm 57 years young now and have never taken a break from the mechanical world. Over the years I've achieved a lot of goals and became a self taught professional mechanic with a good reputation successfully owning my own repair shop. I can definitely spot another professional when I see one and your very intelligent. Outstanding job on this video explaining procedures to follow in diagnostics troubleshooting techniques. Thank you for contributing this video.

Absolutely superb guide to the system. So clearly and patiently explained that, even as an amateur DIY mechanic, I was able to get to grips with the information and get my head around how to approach a diagnosis of my crank-no-start problem. Useful even just to help me discuss a diagnosis with my mechanic. Real impressive. You are a natural teacher, respect.

Wow just got to say really great video. you covered so much here and in such a good systematic way and easy to under stand. Only two things i could add here, for a non starting diesel engine are 1 cranking speed which you covered by saying battery but also starter motors can be the problem. but some diesel engines need a minimum crank speed to start. and 2 is EGR valves, if these are stuck in open position they can stop engine starting as the air/fuel mixture is compromised/disrupted. Thanks again for the great video

From my experience, trucks that have primary fuel filter and a secondary fuel filter or fuel water separator never seem to have fuel related issues. As long as you change them after every pm service you’re good. It’s the trucks that only have one filter or separator that have a lot fuel system problems

Excellent presentation. Out of all the wealth of information you just shared -for me- the key to the diagnostic kingdom you mentioned is- "If your low pressure side isn't delivering sufficient pressure, the high pressure side can not make it's required pressure" (paraphrased). Jumping right into injector failure mode rather than considering first that the issue may be something as simple as an undetectable air leak, will destroy your credibility and break your business/wallet.. I replaced my OEM (piss poor and leak prone system) with a positive pressure (lift) in tank component and a primer blank out unit after 3 weeks of spanking around with every connection and potential air leak -with only 1 one possible leak point found. When you do the math-it's much cheaper to just junk the stock fuel delivery system, and upgrade to a quality USA made lift system. Final diagnostic note... This vehicle was found to have lost the CP3 lift pump capability putting it in a "no start condition". Problem was overridden via the lift pump installation. Thank you Sir.

Awesome video! I'm working on a JD350G and I'm experiencing issues with the fuel system. The engine sound like its running off 5 cylinders. I checked the fuel supply at #1 port at the rail and no fuel was coming out. I pulled the fitting with the spool and spring and cleaned it/checked the movement. The spool and spring seemed to be fine. At this point, I'm thinking the rail or the injection pump pressure regulator might be causing the issue. Have you experienced anything similar to this problem?
@georgegill18153 жыл бұрын
I have a Hyundai Terracan, I have changed the pressure sensor on the common rail, the pressure regulator on the fuel pump and still got a bad start problem. The car starts but wont accelerate, I have to wait till the fuel pressure builds before I can drive off. After watching your video, it's obviously the fuel pump worn out and won't hold pressure.

I went to school for Caterpillar construction equipment but I dealt with the truck side as well. Like I've always said, the basics remain the same throughout various applications. I try to focus on core operating principles and branch out from there.
@gearheadautomotivel.l.c.54763 жыл бұрын
@@ScienceOfDiagnostics Copy that. Generally speaking I like working on equipment. Certainly not the level of aftermarket support that the light vehicle side has, but it does seem to be getting better. I'm the same way when it comes to principles of operation. If I can learn how the system works then I'm confident I can figure out why it's not working. I may not get there as fast as others, but comprehension is important to me.

How much diesel is supposed to flow to return line after being disconnected from injectors ? Basically when doing leak of test, i done a leak of test on the injectors , all came back same value in 5 mins , but the return line i had to put it into a bottle as in 5 minutes it filled a 1 litre bottle , is that normal ? At the same time my rail pressure at idle is 30-40 bars under what is actually comanded , even when constant driving seems to struggle to maintain a consistent rail pressure , always fluctuating -40-50 bars , back to normal and then -40-50 again. Hello, I have a question of diesel fuel cooler. Does diesel engine needs fuel-cooler mandatory at fuel return line? We have high pressure pump wear problem. (the engine has no fuel cooler) I think overheated diesel fuel from return line makes high temperature at fuel tank and this over heated fuel makes damage at high pressure pump. Waiting for you opinion. Thanks , Best regard.

Somethinmes it will reach 2100 rpm Wich is normal running rpm. But it will bounce between 1800 and 2000rpm like if it was surging for fuel. It has new fuel filters. I changed fuel rail pressure sensor and suction control valve. I order a injection pump do you tink that could be the problem or a faulty speed sensor. Thank you in advance.
