I know this was made a year ago, but boy is this useful. Funnily enough, I heard some Year 11s at school watching one of your videos on Physics and I thought, hmm that sounds useful. I have a Chemistry Electrolysis assessment tomorrow, and this REALLY helped (I'm in Year 10 btw). Thanks

@@sameyarahman5565 Dang, man, I had completely forgotten about this comment. Time flies, I turned 21 last month and finished my second year of university. Yet here I was 6 years ago revising for GCSE Chemistry, haha. Thanks for the blast from the past, man, I wish you the very best.

Thank you so much for this! I have one question though - at 11:37 why does it say sodium is produced at the negative electrode? Because isn't sodium more reactive than hydrogen, so hydrogen gas will be produced at the negative electrode, not sodium ? edit: I think it's because the question is talking about a molten ionic compound, not an aqueous solution?
@saisriram2627 жыл бұрын
they're are some equations which say concentraed,aqueous,dilute or concentrated aqeous i know what they mean but does it change the products of the electrolysis,if so how
@kushia40024 жыл бұрын
hey hazel i find them tricky but i like it, do u think a level chemos would be okay or is it a bit of a step up?
@SciencewithHazel4 жыл бұрын
It is a big step up from GCSE, and brings in a lot more maths. If you enjoy the subject though and are willing to work hard then I say go for it!

hi hazel! just a quick question: how do you know which elements are diatomic? do we have to remember it or do we get it given to us??!!
@SciencewithHazel8 жыл бұрын
You'll need to remember them. This is a good way: "Horses Need Oats For Clear Brown Is (eyes)" Horses - hydrogen Need - nitrogen Oats - oxygen For - fluorine Clear - chlorine Brown - bromine Is - Iodine :)

could you explain the difference between the endings of elements such as sulphur, sulphide, sulphate or bromine, bromide etc. ?
@SciencewithHazel8 жыл бұрын
- Sulphur, Bromine, Chlorine etc are just the names of the element. - ide is the ending given when an element forms a compound e.g. hydrogen sulphide (H2S) or sodium chloride (NaCl) - ate is the ending given when an element forms a compound AND there is also oxygen combined e.g. calcium sulphate (CaSO4) or sodium carbonate (Na2CO3)

Hiya just watched this video and it was so useful! just wondering how do you know if an element is negative or positive or it is just to do with which electrode it is at? also how do you know if its 2+ or + for example? thank you so much x
@SciencewithHazel8 жыл бұрын
Metals always form positive ions as they have to lose electrons to have a full outer-shell. Non-metals form negative ions as they have to gain electrons to have a full outer-shell. Check out my video on bonding if you're unsure of what I just wrote (kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4G7haWViauGlbs). For the metal, the charge number corresponds to its group number (transition metals differ), for non-metals the charge number is 8 minus the group number.
