A team of scientists from Sweden, India, the UK, and the USA has led to the development of a method for detecting technosignatures associated with Dyson Spheres.
This initiative named Project Hephaistos, after the Greek god of fire and metallurgy, aims to identify potential Dyson Sphere constructions by advanced civilizations.
In their study, the scientists detail a thorough investigation into partial Dyson spheres using data from GAIA, 2MASS, and WISE, which are extensive astronomical surveys serving various purposes.
The analysis involved a vast amount of data from individual stars, with approximately 5 million sources examined in this particular paper to construct a catalog of potential Dyson spheres.
But sorting through such a vast amount of data is a daunting task, and so the research team devised a specialized data pipeline for this purpose, capable of processing the combined data from the surveys.
Their objective is to identify partially-constructed spheres, which would emit additional infrared radiation.
However, identifying these structures is challenging, as various natural objects also emit excess infrared radiation, such as circumstellar dust rings, nebulae, and background galaxies.
And so they designed the pipeline in such a way that it can separate potential Dyson sphere candidates from natural sources by filtering out sources with unusual amounts of infrared radiation that can't be explained by known natural sources.

Maybe the energy blasts could be used as a means to traverse space, like a space sidewalk

The problem with a Dyson sphere is where would you get the material?... our sun is relatively small and has the mass of 330k earth's if we flattened the earth it would be smaller than a sunspot... if we took all the material from the solar system I still don't think we'd have anywhere near enough to completely surround it.... and that's going to be relatively the same across the galaxy so you would need several hundred or thousand solar systems worth of material... unless there is a way to literally make something from nothing and grow precious metals I don't see how it would ever be feasible... I'd also think even if you had the material it would take thousands of years to construct... so to mine and process material and move and construct it could take millions of years... and how far out do you put it because stars grow so it would have to grow with it or eventually be swallowed up.... I don't see any civilization no matter how advanced taking something like that on you'd need trillions of robots collecting and building for millions of years... it's a cool idea but logistically impossible

it’s not impossible, if we disassembled Jupiter and Mercury we’d have enough material for a Dyson Swarm. Imagine civilizations that has been there a few thousands years longer than us, and with a better system that allowed them to focus on space instead of humans wasting their time on money and wars. You can build a dyson swarm over time with 1 piece at a time, while utilizing that piece’s energy to exponentially get the energy to build it faster. It’s perfectly possible and it doesn’t have to be a whole sphere covering the star, but imagine a civilization that been sending swarm pieces for more than 10 000 years, at one point the star will be fully covered.

And I see you're still thinking along the lines of human limitations. Open your mind man. Logistically impossible you say? Only by our current technological levels. Wake up.

The idea of a dyson sphere is actually more of a swarm of space stations that serounds a star.

The idea of a dyson sphere is a sphere. A dyson swarm is a more reasonable version, they are still different though.

Immediately pushed all notification buttons. This is where the rubber meets the road. Have an idea of how to get there but I'm getting old. But I'd we can see them, we can get there. Light has no idea of what Time is. Light tends to think about what it wants. Strange, Consciousness, as we understand it, has been around about 15k words.

It happens when known "science" hits it's limits, then imagination sets in. But their dogma in known science means very limited imagination. It is why many such imaginations are so similar. Nope, the civilisation will just jump to a different dimension until they find one suitable for them physically.... We can never see them!.
