MechaGhidorah (Showa) / Unused Kaiju Explained

There could have been a showa era version of MechaGhidorah! I'm a huge fan of this era, and a fan of Ghidorah especially! This could have been one of the most powerful kaiju ever, and it would have been made by the largest and most powerful group of Toho space aliens ever assembled on film!

Dude, this is everything I didn't know I always needed!!! This is the kind of stuff TOHO needs to start mining out from the dirt and getting it into media. Film, animation or comic/manga and the merchandise behind it would be amazing and these would all sell simply for the mystic of being the unused film design that never was. The Showa MechaGhidorah huh? Perhaps there's some sort of coincidence that Toho uses the 80's magazine for the inspiration of Mecha-King Ghidorah for the 1991, "Godzilla vs King Ghidorah." Imagine if Toho makes this movie based on this as a sequel to "Terror of MechaGodzilla", just how massive the Ghidorah fandom will be.

It looks pretty cool. I think it could have been one of those the enemy of my enemy is my friend situations as the alien alliance ditches King Ghidorah in favor of a Mecha version and King Ghidorah is outraged at this betrayal and teams up with Godzilla to defeat his Mecha replacement.

I could honestly see this having been a plan for a movie after Terror of MechaGodzilla if it had done well at the box office. Imagine it as kind of the second Destroy All Monsters big event to send Godzilla off on that actually takes place after Destroy All Monsters in the Showa timeline. Bring back a ton of Godzilla's allies as well as surviving baddies like Megalon and Gigan(unless his death in Zone Fighter had already happened by the time this would have been made) and have aliens combine all of their technologies together to make one monster who is powerful enough to take on the kaiju of Earth alone. That would be awesome. Maybe even have the original Ghidorah turn out to be alive and this massive threat be an excuse for something I'm sure I'm not the only person that wants to see a Godzilla and Ghidorah teamup out of necessity similar to how Godzilla and SpaceG teamed up in Rulers of Earth.

Interestingly it seems Gigan would've been revived as he was in an early draft for Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, and for one of the film ideas considered during the gap between Terror of Mechagodzilla and The Return of Godzilla. Also wait Godzilla and Space Godzilla teamed up at one point.

The Showa MechaGhidora is more powerful than Mecha-King Ghidorah! You are right about the latter not being much stronger than it’s organic form-which was controlled by Futurian frequencies, and was damn near dazed when the frequencies stopped.

1st time seeing this- super nice concept, thankfully, fan films can pick up where Toho left off and left out and pass this idea along in the kaiju fan community on YT. This would make for a great standalone K. Ghidorah film w/ a Son of Ghidrah offspring in it, forcing its dad to fight other Ghidorahs sent to take him out for failing to win the Mt Fuji final battle in that movie; he survives this only to face his own mecha and with his son's merging power ability, they both save the day. Finally, as they encounter Godzilla and Co. Ghidorah wanting to exact revenge on the monster Island heroes is stopped by his son Ghidorah Jr. and they leave together and fly back to outer space.
