@@johnyoung5392 That's a little creative writing on there part. No way in real life, even in the future they don't have the doors secured prior to that starship making it's way out. Also, If this was real, I would think they would use tractor beams to bring in and take out ships from the star base.

Both Jerry Goldsmith's and James Horner's themes were used. What's unusual about both scores was they had a nautical element to them. Most sci-fi ship launches are dramatic and brash. Here, Goldsmith and Horner went for the more majestic feeling of a great ship leaving port, Horner's especially with a ship's bell chiming.

The entire scene is so cinematic, from the visual effects (love the rubber band effect), production design (my only nitpick is that the bridge is a bit *too* dark which makes it difficult to see the rest of the bridge crew) and the orchestral score has so many callbacks to the Star Trek TOS and TNG movie scores composed by James Horner and Jerry Goldsmith that it gives me goosebumps. Yes she may be a bit smaller than the NCC1701-D and the E and F of the Galaxy, Sovereign and Odessey classes - a ship is still only as good as it's crew. Good Job Seven there is a first for everything. When a vessel leaves Spacedock the commands are 1. Call the Tower and request permission to leave. When permission is granted the next command is 2. Clear all Mooring! docking clamps are turned off, airlock boarding tunnels are retracted, and tractor beams are disabled and mooring lights are retracted. 3. Activate External Lights Thrusters to Station Keeping! The lights are turned on, stardrive is activated, and thrusters are engaged for station keeping. 4. Aft Thrusters Take Us Out! Engines to 1/4 Impulse! If all is good thrusters are engaged to push away from the dock and impulse engines are placed at 1/4 to leave Spacedock. Once the ship has passed Jupiter the final command is sent. 5. Warp 9 ENGAGE! Once that command is sent the ship leaves Sector 001 and goes to warp.

At the start of production of Generations test footage was shot of the Nest Generation sets using the TV series lighting scheme on 35 mm film. What the producers found was that when the footage was projected on a theater sized screen you could see the grain of the plywood walls and the heads of the screws that held the set together. Something you couldn't see in a 480i NTSC broadcast on a 27-inch TV set. So, the lighting was turned down to hide those unwanted details. I'd imagine that the current Star Trek shows might be shooting dark because they are running into the same issues shooting with 4K cameras to be displayed on large screen televisions.

Let's be honest here with ourselves here,Shaw is acting like such a bitch because we're not supposed to become emotionally attached to him in any way, shape or form. He's only here to serve as a redshirt,so that his inevitable spectacularly violent death will clear the way for Seven's equally inevitable Assumption of permanent command,and we all instinctively know this. For Goddess's sake, short can't even be bothered to refer to 7 by her preferred name! Probably can't be bothered to use any of his crew members preferred pronouns either! This was as close to perfect as any of Paramount Plus' "New-Trek" shows have ever gotten. They finally got the formula right. If I had one complaint, it was that Raffi was still somewhat whiny, but I suspect she'll get even better. Other than that, the cinematography, the acting, the humor, the visual effects - all perfect. We dream about this kind of technology. We make movies of it. Someday this will be real. It'll be as commonplace as launching a rocket from Earth. I've been a quasi-trekkie since September 8th, 1966 when Kirk, Spock, Mr. Scott and the entire cast step foot onto the Enterprise and with each evolution of Star Trek it just gets better and better. Hats off to Gene Roddenberry and all they went through to bring kids like me into the realm of dreaming about travel at warp speed.

I'm trying to come up with a timeline and from what I am picking up from this episode, through dialog and other observations, I am coming to the conclusion that we are 5-10 years from the events of Season 2, which was 2401. 1) Raffi's Granddaughter appears to be around 7 years old?? Her daughter in law was pregnant in Season 1 Freecloud. 2) Seven completed Starfleet Academy which is a 4 year program. I'm sure her rank was accelerated. 3) Shaw stated he was in command of Titan A for 5 years and he deleted Rikers music library when he took command. This tell me that following Season 1, Riker cane out of retirement was in command of Titan A, making Riker a 2 Ship Titan Captain. Also Picard said the line of "your old command". I originally thought namesake but I'm thinking as I started Riker Commanded 2 ships names Titan. I'm conclusion unlike seasons 1 and 2, all we know is we are somewhere in the 25th Century. Assuming Riker Commanded Titan-A from let's say a bit, and then Shaw has been in command for 5 years, also based on Raffi's Granddaughter age, I'm putting Picard Season 3 around 2407-2411. We are quite a bit in the future from last seasons.

This seems to be a very feasible plot. I also recalled from Season 1's finale that Picard's "new" body will allow him to live out his natural lifespan, which is estimated to be another 10 to 15 years. Assuming it is 2411, Picard has lived under this new body for approximately a decade and (sadly) he might be nearing the end of his natural life 😢

1) Raffis Granddaughter might be not the only granddaughter she has. The birth the her daughter from season 1 is about three years ago by the point of this episode here 2) Seven might have been given a commission without access to SFA, since she certainly had the knowledge and training of countless Starfleet officer due to her assimilating them. 3) It is possible that Shaw commanded the Luna-Class Titan before the ship had been basically completely disassembled and rebuild as the Titan-A. So I'd say we still can assume we are in 2403 or so. Although the Titan-A really pushes the limit regarding the whole Theseus ship situation (probably the reason she got a new designation after "refit").

I know there's a few little things to complain about like the dark lighting, and I don't like the over excessive cussing but you know what, Terry did good on this one. This is the best picard that's come out. It felt like the "10 hour movie" we wanted in the first place. Season 1 was ok, hated they killed Hugh and Icheb like nothing, but I loved how Data got a better send off. Season 2, story was horrible, but I did love Q and also loved when Picard finally gave him a hug lol. But this?! I won't complain, the music is everything and it gives me family vibes the tos crew had that we didn't see much in tng movies. If they keep this up I think s3 will be amazing.

You are right, that dark lighting and cussing is really overdone. Both seem more than just unnecessary, they seem detrimental. I have to squint at the TV, and even then I am always concerned that I will miss something in the dark. And the cussing seems beneath these people. They are the cream of the crop when it comes to the human race - the best of the best to have gotten through Star Fleet and become officers. They have lofty ideals and goals. And then they debase themselves by cussing like a construction worker with a 3rd grade education? Doesn't make sense.
@djshadoww7152

@Brian S Right. I mean DS9 and Enterprise were darker but damn not this much. Red alert that's fine but not under normal circumstances. And there's been cussing before in star trek like first contact or generation's but it was pg-13 cussing and it wasn't often. Sure starfleet has been corrupted before and there were dark areas of the galaxy but this feels like the federation is just as bad as our society today. I get they're trying to relate to our problems today in star trek but it's supposed to be hopeful. Like a Russian being a part of Kirk's crew during the cold war.
