The setting is set on an imperial hive world with a canon of huge size, that makes it a strategic target for other factions, either to datamine, destroy, hack, ex. I think the tau dudes in the start of the trailer is pathfinder units. They are used for infiltration and sabotage, so maybe its a sabotage unit that got countered by the tempestors, and then the tau send in there ace in the sleeve, the vespeons to either finish the job or intercept the scions? thats my guess

So happy to see vespids finally get some love. I always wondered how they'd fare against Space Marines knowing that they can shred through armor since they're built to harvest minerals bare clawed in extremly high pressured environements on their home planet. Not sure how it transitions in the tabletop but in DoW Stingwings were great at turning buildings into scrap piles thanks to those claws.

Sort of? There are paratrooper equivalents already in 40k like the Elysian Droptroopers and Harikoni Warhawks but the Scions are more like Delta Force. They can insert anywhere either by land, air, or even space. They're the most highly trained and capable soldiers that humanity offers outside of the Space Marines.

No, there are paratroopers the Imperium has (sometimes literally, usually with gravchutes). Scions are trained to use a wide variety of infiltration methods.

Think more of a Seal Team 6 meets SAS meets Delta, and all cooked in a sweet sauce of being an indoctrinated child soldier, within a ultra-zelous deathcult. Their rules in Kill team are quite weird and from what i can see the "drop in" mechanic is more of a detrement than advantage, as you do not start with all of your troops in a killzone. So sometimes by the time all your guys drop in, the ones on the ground already get pummeled.

I love the space marines because that’s how I got into Warhammer 40k as well but like you I’m a big fan of the scions and storm troopers. Just something genuinely awesome about unaugmented human special forces in 40k

Yeah, the unaugmented humans are way more interesting. Space Marines can be really fun, but they're too different from baseline humans, their minds are so different and their emotions are kind of shallow, no fear, can't fall in love, etc..

As other's have mentions those are Pathfinders, not Firewarriors, and they wear lighter armor as they are scouting untis. T'au are not "fish people" they are closer to bovines and come from an arid world with leathery skin that doesn't sweat. The fish titles are an inside joke because the Imperium named all their vehicles after sea life based on looks (the manta looks like a manta ray, but to the T'au its just an optimal shape) they are not names the T'au use themselves unless talking to other humans. Fun fact, if you want to get a T'au drunk alcohol does nothing instead they get tipsy on a Whey drink.

@@Counterpoints Good point. I'll add a point. I have a background as a historian. Many people, even GW, support the idea that Imperium is racist. This is not correct. Racism is a social construct whose purpose is to justify discrimination and domination of an imaginary group of humans by another imaginary group of humans. These imaginary groups are not based on scientific data. But they become social realities. The justification for this construction is therefore an ideology based on imagination. Imperium is to be specific in favor of a speciesist ideology. Speciesism is an ideology that justifies discrimination and domination of one species over another. Xenos belong to another species. Imperium considers Votann as not being human (not always) so why don't Votann deny this point of view (easy to do, eg. Ogryns). The most serious reason is that the Votanns worship AIs. I conclude (tentatively) that it is the Votanns who do everything to be considered as xenos, basically to go under the radar.

There are two main types of armour in tau military: combat armout weared by fire warriors and recon armour used by pathfinders. While recon armour is indeed a flak armour equivalent, combat armour is closer to carapace and is able to withstand bolter fire.

Kill team is simply a way to charge more for less miniatures and then to roll that price increase back into the main game. I recommend people play a real wargame. 40k is a great story but a totally infantile game for low brow sweat lords.
