I wonder if they used blood for testing would that change any license or permit or whatever they might have to get from the government to be able to do what they do. Subway, the sandwich shop, just announced that they would be slicing their own meats which would add a whole lot more crap for franchisees to deal with. Like extra costs, extra cleaning, I feel like they are just trying another gimmick like fresh baked bread.

Well you wouldn't really want to use blood you'd actually want to use menstrual flow which is slightly different from blood in terms of how it works absorbent-wise I guess. That said sphagnum is absolutely terrible at absorbing water unless it's slightly wet to begin with so uh ew

My solution to the antiperspirant debates is I stopped shaving my armpits and I just use antiperspirant because any evidence that suggests there could be issues there comes from shaving with the use of the antiperspirants so yeah I just went ahead and stopped shaving and you know what it turns out armpit hair reduces BO quite a bit and also I don't get boob snag which is the worst thing ever and I'm sure all the ladies here are familiar with it. Out of all of the body parts that people shave I'm going to say that armpits are probably one of the most inappropriate. We only do it cus people made it a norm at some point but it's completely impractical.

Can attest to the eating hazards of a large moustache. I once made the mistake of eating a crêpe with melted chocolate and marshmallow. My dad (70 year old) had a beard all his life. Ever since I've known him, it has been a silver and white. He was diagnosed with cancer and given radiation on his throat. For about a year after the treatments, his beard GREW IN BLACK. The doctors weren't concerned but clearly the radiation affected the protein producing sites where the hair grows. Does this mean in 100 years we can use radiation to "tweak" genes, e.g. for looking younger targeting non cancer related diseases. I want to see you with a beard, Hank. I'm happy you're here

Like I’m almost 50 and hardly e ever have to shave my knees. Then I had course dark hair and a lot for about 3-4 month after. I asked the Drs and physical therapist why my knee was going through puberty again lol. I’m 6 months out and I think it’s all matured and grown up now lol. Why did my knee, go through puberty after being broken and sliced open? It was crazy I hade to shave it like twice a week and my right knee was maybe once a month.

the Smithsonian made beard tax token replicas in 2019 and there are a bunch of them floating around on coin collecting sites in eBay if you want one, usually between 10 and 20 dollars. Also in antipersperants, one of the most commonly used aluminum is alum, which is also used in most American baking powder. I am allergic to it, which is why when I was a kid, and needing antiperspirant, and I had all these allergies to all kinds of weird things, my mom got me some of that crystal deodorant to see if that would work, and well, that crystal deodorant is made of alum crystal. Now that I know this, it really amuses me going into the deodorant section of a store, and seeing all these deodorants boasting about being aluminum free, and then right next to them is a big chunk of alum. And all this makes me wonder if the concern is the aluminum getting into the system, and say, going to the kidneys, then why are people focusing on deodorant and not the fact that this stuff is in a large percentage of American bread? Also fun fact about alum is it's a really good dye mordant, and helps cloth maintain vibrant dyed colors, which means it was really, really valuable. In northern Europe in the early modern period, When the economies of for example, England and Flanders, were mostly based around wool, especially brightly dyed wool cloth. And there were two places to get alum, for this particular market, one of which was from the Pope who had a mine in Italy on the Papal estates. The other was in Turkey, which was ruled by the Ottoman Empire, Which at the time, had just finished conquering the Byzantines and was the great terror of Christian Europe. So the Pope used his monopoly on Christian mined alum to jack up the price and make bank, meaning the Turkish stuff was of course, significantly cheaper. But Turkish alum was illegal throughout Christian Europe by order of the Pope. So Henry VII, father of Henry VIII, of all the wives fame, founded an alum smuggling and laundering ring with some of his allies, to get their hands on that sweet sweet cheap alum without the Pope finding out.

the mustache spoon: as somebody who has a very convenience oriented approach to facial hair, I trim mine to stubble, then let it grow in until the "mustache dip" starts happening, whereupon I trim it again. there is no "here comes the airplane" method of doing it. your lips make a seal against the utensil. consider yogurt, ice cream, peanut butter, honey, pea soup. for liquid out of a glass or a cup, imagine tilting your head back and trying to allow the liquid to dribble into your mouth... sounds disastrous to me. anyone who's ever tried to pour automotive fluids into the car without a funnel knows exactly how this will go. maybe 10% of the time you can get it in clean.

I moved away from aluminum based anti-perspirants sort of by accident and just from a quality of life perspective I don't think I'll ever go back. As someone who generally is more sensitive to odors than others, it's always been a struggle to find a deodorant that both works but also doesn't make me ill (headaches and general discomfort). I tried out Native's unscented and boy does it really work. Problem was I also would sweat profusely all day/all the time, and just after switching the problem really seemed to get a lot worse. But I stuck with it and after maybe 3 to 6 months it really started to decline. Now after several years, except during the heat of summer, I don't really sweat a very noticeable amount. My top 3 contenders for why: it could be age, it could be Native does a better job at blocking the pores than aluminum or it could be my body has stopped trying to compensate for the presence of the aluminum. (This all happened prior to the big C reducing my sense of smell). Anyone else have a similar experience?

But from what Ive heard there doesnt appear to be evidence that the stoppage of periods from birth control specifically is harmful. My vote is... That it is extremely bad to have metals in our deodorant, ( I'm not environmentally conscious) even if it's not that bad to be put on our skin, I have a first-hand experience from a friend that is very allergic to the aluminum in our antiperspirant, and we played soccer so by the end of 3rd period, he stunk up the room to high heaven!! So even though I might be not too bad, it is very very very bad for the people around the person who is allergic to it. 😢 I thought it was a rare condition but then I had to change hair stylist because my hairstylist had the same darn allergy so if I didn't book the appointment super early in the morning where she barely woke up and took a shower and got to work, it was not going to be a good experience and I am very very queasy 😢😢 🤢🤢😔😔

I lost 100 pounds with the only major diet change being changing to artificially sweetened soda. Most diet sodas were never intended to taste like the non-diet version; it's a different flavour altogether. @@krellend20 The Diet Coke flavor formula is based on the old TAB soda, which was Coca-Cola's first diet soda; The failed New Coke from the mid 80s was then based on the Diet Coke flavor formula. They are all slightly different, but the main difference is the sweetener. Tab was made with saccharin, Diet Coke with Aspartame, and New Coke was primarily sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup. When it comes to cleaner wrasses, fish also seem to have their own version of Yelp! Fish are less likely to visit a cleaner wrasse that did a poor job, that is to say the wrasse was too slow or maybe bit the fish and not the just parasites. Bad cleaners will get fewer client fish visiting them while the good ones will get more repeat and new clients! It isn't just a one-way reputation management though. Cleaner wrasse will also be less likely to nibble on their client fish when others are watching. The Cleaner Wrasse will also prioritize their clients, so bigger fish get more attention sooner than the smaller fish, and new clients get more attention than the repeat local clients

I’m not surprised that antiperspirants were invented in 1903. Linen and wool, which were the most common materials for undergarments for millennia (linen more so than wool, depending on climate and season), have natural antimicrobial properties and are both amazingly moisture wicking. Cotton slowly took over throughout the 19th century and, while it’s still breathable and easily washable like linen, it just doesn’t have those properties.

I've used antiperspirant for years and have never had a problem. When my brother uses anything with alum/aluminum products he breaks out in horrific hives that turn into painful blisters within a half hour. Everyone is different and sensitivity levels vary among people. But not everyone has awful reactions and some of us like our antiperspirant.

Low key jealous of people who can wear antiperspirant. It's a good idea, but my skin disagrees. I've learned my epidermis is like that one obnoxious friend... incredibly intolerant of so many normal things!

As a person with a VERY long mustache I would like a moustache spoon. 10/10 that would be helpful. (I eat toast upside down to avoid the butter/jelly/cream cheese.)

I have this image of a little mustache guard on a stick that you could hold up while you eat your toast right side up and I kind of want to see this product happen.

I love Fanta Guaraná but it's only sold in a few countries. Also loved Pepsi's Josta but it's been discontinued everywhere (except 1 country, I think) Edit: or not. I might have been thinking of another soda that's sold in Australia or something

You can definitely let your cats play rough. They are natural predators, little killing machines, playing rough is their way to socialize. As long as they don't hurt each other, they will be fine. They have their thick coats and reflexes. (Unless they don't, in that case you probably need to moderate it...). My vet tells me "as long as blood is not drawn, it's perfectly fine". If you feel bothered about it, you can play with your cat more... they need to spend their pent up predator energy somehow.

Yeah...my cats play "soft paws" until it goes beyond play. My oldest learned years ago, "Use your words!" I don't even tell him anymore and he will try to first vocalize his displeasure, then comes soft paws, and finally claws out. Cats also pull punches when playing with another cat weaker than them, and that goes for big cats like lions as well.

Someone tried to shake me for using antiperspirant instead of deodorant, because of the aluminum! My response was, "Chill out, I'm not gone eat it." (Guess I wasn't totally wrong.) Hahaha.

I'm not remotely worried about aluminum but I can say from experience, antipersperants may not be great for everyone. It's never caused any kind of poisoning but I have ended up with pimple-like infections in my pores just from stuff getting stuck there. It's actually painful. And at first I thought it was probably just a coincidence, but I stopped using antipersperant anyway just in case. But at one point I accidentally bought antipersperant, decided I might as well not waste it, and pretty shortly after I got that infection again, and it cleared up when I discontinued the antipersperant. And then it happened one more time after that. Still a chance it might be a coincidence. But I feel pretty comfortable swearing off antipersperant. Idk if it's because I'm a heavy sweater or if I just have a particular armpit microbiome that goes nuts in an anaerobic environments

It's comforting to know the science so far doesn't show any danger in using aluminum antiperspirants. I have found that using them is what causes armpit stains, though. Ever since I quit using them I never get armpit stains in my clothes or a smell that can't be removed.

Hey Hank, Any addictive substance will start to taste good if your brain associates the flavor with the addictive substances effects. Remove the caffeine from your experiment group and see if they still like artificial sweeteners.

I actually like the taste of artificial sweetener. As a kid I would suck on sweet n low packets like they were candy. I still use it as my preferred sweetener in drinks and on top of fruit. Everyone is different. Not everyone hates artificial sweeteners.
