i just got surgery 3 weeks ago, super easy recovery for me. im so lucky i have a super high pain tolerance for a 13 y/o because i didnt feel much pain throughout the 4 days of recovery, about 70° pre surgery, 18° now and i only have a half rod 😭 doctors were super surprised when i came back in for a check up saying that i didnt cry throughout this whole process and that im off my meds. I hope this encourages some of you guys, everything will be worth it in the end ❤️

My daughter has had the surgery several times. Three rods broke and were protruding through the skin and we had to remove them. Steel does break even though they tell you it can't happen. We are holding off further surgery and just monitoring the curve. Her curve is 65 degrees but Docs prefer to hold off considering what she already experienced. Be super cautious and go easy on yourself, more than you think. You're a beautiful young lady and I pray all will work out for you.

Thank you for filming your experience! I wish I had someone like you to watch when I went through my Harrington's rod surgery at 13. I am 33 now and have little to no limitations w/my back. Just watching you're videos make me cry at times because it brought back a lot of feelings. Those surgeries are not the least bit minor or easy and you rocked it like a champ girl!! Sending love and prayers your way from Washington state. You are a bright light in this world so shine on 🌟🌟

@@savagerose3077 that's amazing I was diagnosed at 13 and I was a 33 they told me my bones were fully matured (grown) and that it wouldn't get worse now by the end of 10th grade I realised of course people can get worse gravity over time pushes everyone down (for example old people becoming shorter with age) and if anyone for example put let's say... A heavy backpack over 15lbs over there back it will ruin their posture (increasing natural effects from gravity) if they do it everyday with or without scoliosis. Some doctors say the foggiest things and maybethey dont believe in n some things or don't know everything or maybe they just weren't clear in informing their patient but I definitely need a better check up again I can't do anything about it geting worse in the future with old age but in my youth I can keep my posture strong and let my muscles around my core and spine grow to help support my spine holding better posture to correct a bit...

Hey everyone. I had this surgery when I was 14 (back in 2001). I stumbled across this video by chance and just want to give everyone who came to this channel bc they were preparing for their own surgery some insight on what it was like for me and how the subsequent 20 years went. Take it for what it is and remember I’m not a doctor So like I said, I was 14. I have two Harrington rods. Fused from the middle of my shoulder blades to my last two discs in my lower back. As far as recovery, from what I gather the technology is much better now. I was in the hospital for a few weeks, then a hotel room for another few weeks before I was well enough to fly home. From what I remember, I was pretty much 100% a year later and even started snowboarding again. The psychological aspect was probably the worst. I missed a semester is school in 8th grade and was home by myself for months (this might be why I empathize so much with kids dealing with stay at home orders). Make sure you plan social activities and try to keep a schedule or you will lose your mind staying up till 4 am watching tv and eating trash food. As a boy, I was super worried about not being able to play sports and roughhouse. I thought I would be made of glass. Luckily that’s not the case. I was able to keep snowboarding, became a professional athlete in a highly physical but very obscure sport, had 4 amateur boxing matches, and now compete in bjj and train mma for fun. Check with your doctor, but you are not made of glass. Just be smart and weigh the risks. My suggestions would be plan for the surgery. Get in shape, strength train, lose weight, eat right, etc. it will help with the recovery. Take the physical therapy seriously. It will save you. Stay fit and healthy and keep your back strong. If anyone has any more specific questions you can dm me or respond here. Hopefully this was helpful. Oh and parents-make sure you take care of yourselves too. I think In the end it was much harder for my parents than it was for me-which says a lot.

Hey! Im 13 and i just got the surgery July 15th. my curve was almost 70°, pretty sure its 18° now, i was 5'1 pre surgery then 5'3 post surgery. You have nothing to be worried about, i do personally have a very high pain tolerance so the recovery was super easy for me. And right before the surgery they just make u change into the hospital gown, draw your blood, give you some meds (loopy drug and i cant remember what the other one was for) and they gave me a heated blanket. up until 5 minutes of taking the medicine i was completely loopy and i cant remember anything past that. when you wake up youll barely be able to open your eyes until after 3 mins or so? theyll put you in your room and you will most likely be out for the rest of the day. (you will be on so many different meds that you'll probably not feel that much pain, i personally barely felt any) when it is night time though they will need to reposition you every 2 hours which can get annoying, then in the morning they have to take your blood. Now, speaking bathroom-wise, the catheter in you will automatically just suck out urine, so if u feel like you have to pee just tell your nurse because the tube is probably kinked or positioned wrong. for going poop, its gonna be HELLA weird but youll be fine, they have to put water in your butthole like a shot and a shit ton of laxatives 😭 (try not to kick the nurse) and then you might hsve to use the bathroom like 10 mins later. you arent allowed to use the actual toilet until a couple days after from where my hospital was so they brought in like a nursing home toilet which was super easy to use lmao (YES THE NURSE WILL HAVE TO WIPE U ITS SUPER AWKWARD BUT I PROMISE THEYVE SEEN WORSE!!) ive also forgot to mention that sitting up for the first time will make you feel super dizzy and lightheaded. (they make u sit up after 1-2 days of sitting down all day) and you will definitely want to be walking as soon as possible, it feels great just to sit in their reclining chair. 3 weeks post op and im walking, sleeping, sitting in no pain. AND MAKE SURE TO DO UR PT EXERCISES!!! im so sorry this is a really long paragraph ☹️ good luck though! 💞💞
