www.vladtv.com - Scoop DeVille opened up to VladTV about his top five Hip-Hop producers of all time, and claims that DJ Quik should've been the "original Dr. Dre." He explains that Quik's talent is unlike anything he's ever seen and likens him to a musical genius.
During the interview Scoop also spoke about transitioning from a producer to a solo artist, and says that he's enjoying being an artist at the moment. Check out his full interview above to hear more of what he has to say about his career and top producers.

Dj quik don't never get his props sometimes. It's always Dr. Dre. When it comes to the best West Coast producers. I use to think Dre produced All Eyez on Me and I researched and Daz and Johnny J produced most of that album. Don't sleep on Daz!

Quik has always been the greatest producer of all-time in my opinion. I'm glad to see him get some recognition. And what most people don't know, is that he secretly engineered a lot of hit records and didn't get credited for it, including most of Pac's All Eyez On Me album.

Dymez He did get credit for All Eyes On Me on paper. But, he had to use his birth name, David Blake, in order to get the credit. Because his label at the time wouldn't allow DR Records to sign him, he had go another route. But I do agree that Quik is underrated and he mixed the hell out of AEOM... His mark is all over that album. He also gave Dr. Dre his sound for 50 cents debut album and nobody knows.

DJ Quik is the best west coast producer. He's never gets the props he deserves. I don't think Dre's ever made all the beats on a album from top to bottom like DJ Premier . A lot of people Dre has worked with has said that Dre don't be making all of those beats like one would think. Warren G made a beat on Snoop's debut solo album Doggystyle, but is only listed as a performer . The song is "It ain't no fun" which Warren also raps on. Warren G , Sam Sneed,DJ Quik and Daz were the ghost producers at Deathrow, Scott Storch Same Sneed, and Mel-Man were the ghost producers on the Chronic 2001 and at Aftermath.

Quiks a great producer and musical genius, and his musicality, instrumentality, and approach to the craft can't be reckoned with... But I will say this- a lot of people say quik deserves to be in dre's spot and dres accolades, but they never go into why he doesn't receive those. Dre left deathrow and started his own label. Found and helped cultivate numerous hit artist, and was also the first producer from the west coast who was open to work with east coast artist, which gained him more recognition. Dre had forces behind him(no pun intended), Jimmy Iovine)who saw he was marketable and more easy to access by the masses. When it came time for him to jump from the sinking ship that was deathrow, he was smart enough to leave all that gang shit/street shit where he left it. Quik on the other hand, mainly stayed regional, and only chose to bring up and work closely with other regional artist in his main camp. His sound, style and subject matter didn't appeal to the mainstream or commercial. All that dissing the east coast in the 90s came back and bit him in the ass hard. The people you surround yourself with also make a huge difference. Quik didn't surround himself with the best people, and the people he was closest to in his camp didn't really have his best interest at heart.Most of the folks he surrounded himself with were leaches, and opportunist who only saw him as a free hand out. You can only rise as high as the people you surround yourself with. In conclusion, dre was simply a good businessman who made smart decisions.

@th3azscorpio 7 жыл бұрын
Well of course, as I have already mentioned the fact that Dre ripped people off in my original statement. However rip off or not, I also mentioned the fact that, that had a lot to do with the fact as to why he was so successful. I also mentioned that in order to thrive in this business, one must be a snake. Business is a dirty game, and only those well equipped to deal with it are successful in it. Quik simply does not have the business acumen that Dre does.

If I was a rapper and needed someone to produce my album and make beats: DJ Muggs RZA The Beatnuts Alchemist Havoc (from Mobb Deep) EPMD(legendary hip-hop group that produced their own albums. One half of EPMD- Erick Sermon made that song "Music" which sampled Marvin Gaye)

Yea but Dre tho. NWA, Snoop, Em, 50 (even though he's lame now), Kendrick. I mean, seriously, how often does the same cat work with the dudes that OWNED the game. What Dr Dre is doing is unique in that no other producer in any era has worked with a string of such phenomenally influential artists. He's a super producer, Like Mutt Lange, Quincy Jones etc.

+Brian Pierce To your point, could Quik produce east coast rappers , skits , comedy in between with various people on both coast? He produce a lot of emcees like DOC, Kurupt, MCren, Rage, 50cent eminem etc..So I agree.

He could, but he chose to stay regional which kind of shot him in the foot in the long run. West coast doesn't run shit anymore, and I think he kind of fell victim to that thinking.

None of those acts ever blew up, and Roger Troutman was already widely known before Quik came to work with him. The only person who had the possibility to actually blow up was Mausberg, and his books got closed way before he even made his mark.

Dre got credited for a lot of songs he didn't produce. In the Death Row era,you had Quik and Daz doing most of the beats but Dre was credited because his name was selling. But Daz and Quik are Damn good!!!

+Jerroll Hunt Remember Ruthless was getting a lot of dre paycheck when his name was on the album when Daz got some credits. Daz is a great producer but Dr. made an impact. Dre made a lot of classic albums.
