To all the previous comments stating why did they wait so long - - I've seen Arkansas State Troopers videos on 3 other KZbin channels. Since I started watching these, I found out - Depending on the police dept, they may have to wait for authorization. Some troopers may have little or no very high speed PIT experience. Little or no experience = probably no PIT authorization. Some police depts do not allow a PIT above a certain speed, even with zero traffic. If you look at some of the Arkansas State Troopers videos, these officers do some amazing things behind the wheel. Some videos are compiled with several PITs or takedowns completed by 1 officer - and you realize THAT OFFICER is a cut above the others. Most chases do not make up or provide a textbook PIT. AND - the officer has to obey the department regulations he has to deal with. Oh - one more - the department & officers have to know - if there are others in the vehicle, especially children. Maybe - the troopers need more grapplers and GPS throwers.

I find it amazing that they traveled the distance they did without any units/PD's ahead of the chase able to get in position to deploy stop sticks. I also find it APPALLING that so many drivers fail to pull over to the side when they see flashing lights behind them. I suspect they are either distracted or don't even know a chase is coming up from the rear. In any case, you would at the very least expect big rig drivers to be aware of their surroundings. Perhaps it is time for states to MANDATE 200 hours of driver training and a possible loss of license until they have successfully completed said training if their license plate is recorded as not pulling to the shoulder when a chase approaches from the rear. It may just wake people up if there was a well publicized campaign that after a specific date this is what was going to be the punishment for failure to get the heck out of the way of any emergency vehicle.

For those asking why they didn't PIT. Most agencies have regulations on when you can PIT, for example some departments only allow a PIT under 50 but above, deadly force would have to be authorized. For example if the person was a serial murderer they might be able to PIT above 50 or if he was actively shooting while driving. When it comes to stop sticks it appears that they are in Alligator Alley which is a long straightaway road in the everglades with no cities or police department,so I doubt there were any available troopers to lay spike strips, some agencies allow for boxing vehicles in, some don't. So it all just depends on policies and procedures, however ultimately the goal of pursuits is to minimize the time they continue to lessen to risk to the motoring public, in my opinion the grappler is an amazing tool that could have ended this pursuit within a minute. However it isn't used all that common.
@emmanueldavis1872
@emmanueldavis1872 9 ай бұрын
Well said. I actually looked at the PIT policy for Florida and they aren't allowed to PIT without permission from a supervisor first. And the vehicle they are chasing must be running at a certain speed before they can PIT. So I think they should have let this guy leave with that stolen pickup. Because they were having a hard enough time keeping up with him and people were making it harder by not getting out of the way. So, I would have let this guy go on. Insurance companies pay money to buy a new pickup anyway.

I don't even know why they have to do a PIT manoeuver .. I think if they just bumped him, that would be enough to remind him he needs to stop, ASAP. Also .. how many examples were there in this video of people a) hogging the fast lane, and b) not moving out of the way of a cop car? One SUV driver even braked. Why were they braking? The trooper doesn't want you to slow down, he wants you to move out of the way, so MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. Use the steering wheel and just move your vehicle left or right, taking car not to hit any other vehicles.

I am both amazed and infuriated at how many drivers fail to keep to the right. Under the traffic conditions in the video, there should have one or more open left lanes at all times for the police to drive without impediment. I'd be tempted to look at dash cam footage and send the registered owner of each of these vehicles a ticket for improper lane use with failure to yield.

@LimboSpace

A lot of people saying they should have pitted earlier in the pursuit, should realize Florida residents don’t pay attention for any emergency vehicles. The amount of people that did not move over in time made it to where the FHP could not PIT. If Floridians would learn to actual drive and do better at move out of the way this pursuit could have ended earlier.

"Black Male" Why is it almost always the same bad actors in this sort of drama? At some point this needs to be brought out into the spotlight and dealt with instead of being swept under the "PC rug". Second, why did they chase this guy for so long before a PIT was authorized? It was pretty clear early on that this clown was not going to stop. All that time other motorists were put at risk. Should have authorized and done a PIT far earlier than they did. Last, when caught these guys need to be thrown UNDER the jail, not allowed to go home on bond. Once convicted, they need to spend their time in jail breaking rocks or sorting garbage instead of lounging around in air conditioning. Make prison a place they fear to go or this will just continue.

They need permission to PIT and if the vehicle wasn't at the permitted speed to PIT at the time, they couldn't PIT anyway. Some Troopers just need to know when to throw in the towel and say the criminal has won. You don't have to catch them all. Welp, if they're not a serial killer or something like that.

Quick question... Was the supervisor an officer in the chase or someone at the station hearing about the chase over the radio? Cause I honestly think that troopers should not have to wait for the supervisor to authorize a pit. If the traffic is clear, you've managed to catch up with the fleeing vehicle, and you're both maintaining a good speed, the pursuing troopers should be able to pit.
