I love this song and honestly cannot believe how underrated it is. On the eve of its 20th birthday, I’d argue it is one of the top 150 country songs ever written. Just a phenomenal account of a special and rare moment at the end of a chapter in this young man’s life. You can feel the crossroads this person is at as he wraps up a temporary but meaningful thing that can’t last into the realities of school, September, etc. I connected with this as a mid 20-something and now, 20 years on, I appreciate it in a different, if not more powerful way. Scooter nailed this and it should be celebrated for the spectacle of lyrical storytelling it is.

Love this! Very capable performance of a haunting song. Thanks for posting. Wallen’s Sand In My Boots got my curiosity up because it seems so similar to this and I recall that Chesney and Wallen are from the same small town.
