Very well explained! Even the smallest things in transmission can make a difference in performance. I've bought my second scooter - 2013 Aprilia SR50R (carb ) and I''m rebuilding it to 70cc ,i did rebuild my 1st scooter Yamaha Aerox to 70cc too ,but only changed the pipe, cylinder kit and air filter. It ran good for the small amount of tuning i did. But the SR50R i'm tuning a lot more -sport transmission ,Yasuni pipe , streetrace 70cc ,bigger carb ,intake etc. ,thanks to this video I learned a bit more about transmission tuning. I'm surprised that in USA the scooter tuning is also popular. I'm from Europe (eastern europe - Latvia) and here it's a very popular thing amongst teenagers and even adults. You can pass the moped exam if you're 14. ( I'm 16 btw.) We even have a scooter forum ,official scooter meetings twice a year (10 or 11 years since the 1st one) with cast-iron and aluminium class drag races , and a lot of scooter riders upgrade their rides a lot to win those drags..even porting cylinders and engine blocks. In the past I thought that in USA people only put 150cc big bore kits on their 4 stroke chinese scooters and that's all with tuning :D but I'm surprised that there are 2 stroke powerful builds with all the known brands - Malossi ,Polini , Stage 6 etc. A subscribe and like from me.

I don't own a scooter yet, but I plan to. I'm an old motorcycle rider who has to ride a trike due to my wife's many health iseeus. But I am now looking at scooters for the amooth ride. I think the engineering that went into a scooter's cvt is amazing. It is so simple and yet works so well. Your video does a great job explianing how they work. I will probably change the clutch springs on whatever scooter I buy. I will install weaker springs becsuse I want the clutch to engage sooner than stock. Then I will look into the rollers to make sure the front pulley is giving me the max it can give. I don't know if I will change the spring on the rear pulley because it seems to me if I have the right weight rollers in the front pulley it shoud over come the spring in the rear and give me the maximun performance. Well, good enough for me anyway. Thanks for such a good video on a scooter CVT and thank you for removeing the cover and showing exactly how they work. I already knew how they work, but it was nice to watch one while it was in action.

However, at WOT on a sharpie trick i doesn't seem to ride high on top of the vario and left about 10-15mm mark. SHould i go for heavier sliders? Like 6g? I'm new to all this. My new 150cc scooter seems to engage a bit slower than I would like it to (manufacturer says it engages at 1700 rpm). There seems to be a bit of a slack in the throttle. How can I make it so the clutch engages quicker? By adjusting the throttle cable? Or by getting 1000 rpm clutch springs? If I change the clutch springs to 1000 rpm, do I need to also change the contra spring to 1000 rpm? How about the variator rollers weights? Do I need to change them to lighter weights as well?

I've got an uncle that lost his license for 10 years, but does work for me. Sometimes he rides his scooter in to work, because that is the only thing he can legally drive, but other times he has to get a ride. This slows him down quite a bit, as scooters aren't as fast as vehicles and he is a carpenter, but doesn't have room for his tools. I'm fascinated by these modifications, and wonder how fast and powerful you could make a 50cc scooter before it would be super obvious to law enforcement and get people driving with a suspended license busted. Also driving them in the winter is very very cold. I'll bet the 3 wheel trike scooters could have some sort of "cab" attached to help with that.
@Scooterswapshop2 жыл бұрын
if it has 3 wheels its not a scooter. and its all dependant on your laws. never heard of not being able to drive anything but a scooter legally
@chrisgentry71952 жыл бұрын
@@Scooterswapshop I live in Indiana. Per the law here, scooters are considered class B motor driven cycles and "Designed to have 3 wheels or fewer on the ground." I did go back over the law requirements though and they can only go 35 mph max. So I suppose if you did too much modification to them, they would break the law in another way. And it is just for people with a suspended license in Indiana. Scooters are legal to drive with only an ID card. You don't need a drivers license.

Question, flat road, constant throttle, constant speed then increase throttle. For that initial moment does cvt accelerate the same as a chain? Thanks
@Scooterswapshop5 жыл бұрын
Cvt will only be a constant non changing ratio once you’ve maxed out the rpm/travel. For instance a bike rpm will stay the same until x speed; then you’ll hear it climb. When it’s climbing that means you’ve maxed out the cvt and your gears and rpm are causing your speed to climb. Not your cvt

If you started with a standard transmission, how would you go about adjusting from the word go? IE how much wieght to drop in the rollers, how heavy to go on the clutch springs and so on

Good video, you made how the CVT works simple to understand.. The only complaint would be how many times you said "So." It got a little annoying after awhile.

if the motor is running and it wont go just revs up is the belt gone or clutch or whole transmission

We have lots and lots of videos on cvt to help you work these issues out. It could be either

Can you please tell me exactly what scooter that is or where to get all the stuff for that CVT? I have several project ideas that a CVT would be perfect for. They’re small engine projects and this looks tough enough and simple enough that I can make it work.

question: so if ur motor is slow acceleration and you reduced the weight of roller but then how do you deal with top speed loss??
@dwiwahyu76385 жыл бұрын
Use standart roller but you need to change front pulley degree and scratch roller lane (sorry for my bad english:D)

theres alot of ways to change things to find the sweet spot all depends on the bike and setup

@Scooterswapshop5 жыл бұрын
