You videos are awesome. I'm making the transition to scootering after a 20 year absence from two wheel. I spent years riding motorcycles with my family... but 20 years really puts you out of practice. Plus, the scooter is a different animal. Your videos are much appreciated.

This Video saved my life , Was on a mountain route. Going to a very Tight corner , got Chilled with the speed I entered the corner in , accidentally squeezed the front it straightened me out. Good thing I was in the middle of the lane. Got Back into the corner(still going fast)almost squeezed it again. Good thing i remembered this Video. And had the chance to stop , and recover from the Shock I felt.

I've subscribed to your channel because I am learning a lot from your videos. I am learning a lot from your videos because they are very intelligently and orderly scripted, the videography and audio are excellent, and you cover a wide range of important topics. Several decades ago I owned a 250cc Honda, which got stolen, then a 650cc Kawasaki. I stopped riding motorcycles in 1989. Now I'm back on 2 wheels again, having bought three weeks ago a Genuine Buddy 50 scooter, which I am enjoying very much, for neighborhood "joyrides" and errands. With a fast scooter (45 mph, and it's not even broken in yet) such as this, one can get out of potential trouble using the speed and the agility together. Great bike, manufactured by an American company and made in the motor scooter capital of the world, Taiwan (NOT to be confused with China!). Great 2 yr parts and labor warranty PLUS free 2 yr roadside assistance. This bike is SOLID, and the fit and finish is great. So, I'm "back in the saddle again", after about 19 years absence, and I'm LOVING it! Many thanks for teaching me things I never learned and reinforcing the things I've not used for so many years. Happy trails!

Ken, hello, As a rider of motorcycles for many years in another lifetime, like 30 years ago, I'm now considering buying a new motor scooter, namely the Kymco Like. Reason being 1, because they're cheaper than today's big motor cycles, and 2, I'm not a fan of the current trend of these bikes, with their rear end pointing at the sky and a gap between the rear pillion seat and rear wheel wide enough to fly a model aircraft through. All I can say is, thank goodness to Triumph, Royal Enfield and Kawasaki's W800 for for their retro classic look, and would have one in a heartbeat, but sadly these too are out of my price range. Back when I bought my first bike, a 1959 Triumph Bonneville, a friend of mine who owned a motor scooter, let me ride it around the block and I have to say it felt totally different to riding a motorcycle. To explain, in cornering, it gave me a feeling of unease, of not being in control, as opposed to a motorcycle. I put it down to the fact that on a scooter one sits with their legs in the straight ahead position, where on a motorcycle we sit with our legs astride of the seat. Could this feeling be because our legs either side, give us more of a sense of balance?. Perhaps it was nothing more than riding a smaller two wheeled vehicle, but it's a question I've always wanted to ask and was wondering if you can clear that up for me. Cheers from New South Wales...

It sounds like you are saying “roll off” the throttle but it looks like u are rolling on more trottle. I am just getting familiar with my burgman 400 after giving my Harley heritage to grandson. Your instrucrion makes sense except that. Perhaps your British accent is my problem. Thanks for the video...I have watched it several times. I ride with trailing brake through all corners...applying just enough brake to make turns easier...your comment please. Thanks. Tex from hot San Antonio

I've always found I have way more control of the bike operating clutch and brake lever with two fingers. I also ride with two fingers on both at all times, which means I have instant brake and clutch control. Not saying it's for everybody, but it works for me.

I enjoy watching your video. My problem is I rode motorcycles for years, powerful motorcycles. I gave up riding about twenty odd years ago when I meet my wife. She didn't care for motorcycles. I am old and my wife lives in a nursing home. I purchased a scooter to visit her because of the low cost. I am finding riding my scooter harder to ride then a motorcycle. I am not sure if it is the weight being lower our the fact that I do not have a clutch? I have to think about what I am doing. It is not second nature to me yet. Is this a common problem for someone who rode motorcycles for years of maybe it is my old age? Maybe a little bit of both? I am practicing a little bit each day. Well I would like too have complete control over my scooter. I will keep on watching and practicing on my scooter until I am totally comfortable riding.

Scooter is just the same , but it is a bit harder to move your body to the inside of the corner to keep the scooter more upright , on a Motorcycle you have the fuel tank to brace the inside of you leg against which makes it easier to lean without actually falling off the thing lol
@fingerhorn4
@fingerhorn4 10 жыл бұрын
In fact to bring the scooter upright you actually counter steer it just as you would when turning into a corner, but counter steer the other way. To turn left you actually counter steer right, then let the bike lean left and the centrifugal forces, together with gyroscopic precession, balance the bike. To roll out of a left turn, you do NOT actually turn the bars to the right, but momentarily push the bars slightly to the left. The centrifugal force then translates this to leaning right, or in this case STOPPING the lean to the left. Of course all this is done almost intuitively which is why when describing it, it sounds wrong. At speeds under around 10 mph "normal" steering works. Above that speed, turning is done the completely opposite way because gyroscopic forces dictate the direction and lean of the scooter or bike.

Just need to mention that awareness of a car behind you is important too. Stopping quickly on the corner may cause them to run into you.

Do we still need this straight brake technique with a motorcycle with ABS (anti lock brake)?
@reinisesenbergs8312
@reinisesenbergs8312 3 жыл бұрын
If ABS fails you will still slide relying on things to save you not the best idea. And yes you do need to get up straight since you need to transfer the stopping power and doing it angle isn't an exactly a good idea. Abs just stops your tyres from locking up and going sliding.

I must admit I'm a little confused. Watching motorcycle tuition videos, the object seems to be to keep the motorcycle more vertical as you go through the corner, thereby the rider leans into the corner, which seems to be the exact opposite of riding a scooter. Why is that?
@momoyachou
@momoyachou 7 жыл бұрын
esoterica1153 balance points... if a motorcycle rider leans against the vehicle it s most likely gonna follow it, because the center of gravity is higher, on a scooter its low so you have to counter the gravity
