They did a really good job hiding it... and when you rewatch the show and actual pay attention to his actions you can really tell how thought out his manipulation is. The characters didn't have to be dumbed down for his tactics to work... they were just used correctly.

Funny how everyone knows everyone but nobody knew Penelope including ralph even tho she is on the machine and ralph said he had a veiw of the machine too. Even if the ingame character didnt know everyone should have known including the fact there is no king so how did they not figure out that this new character was turbo. Dont take this srsly

here’s my theory. turbo’s og game was probably plugged in around the 80s, the game he took over would’ve been plugged in during the mid 90s, then sugar rush (according to the wiki) joined the arcade in 1997. the “turbo incident” may have occurred in 1997. the games were erased and turbo immediately escaped to sugar rush undetected (which is why everyone thought he died with his games). that or, he hid out for a while and sugar rush was plugged in as the replacement racing game soon after. it makes sense; “our two best racing games are gone, let’s get a brand new one”. sugar rush would’ve still been brand new to the arcade at this point, and no one would know the characters well enough to notice the addition of king candy. ALSO- turbo probably never interacted w anyone outside of sugar rush, as he could only code himself as king candy within sugar rush. vanellope being on the side of the machine also wouldn’t be suspicious to anyone who hadn’t been inside sugar rush because they wouldn’t know what was going on. they may just assume she’s reclusive, not that she literally cannot leave the game/is a glitch. the two most significant characters to sugar rush cannot leave their game, so the only interactions anyone can have w sugar rush without going inside are with the memory-wiped civilians.
