Propellant on the rudder is when it transforms to the backpack for gerwalk and battroid. Apogee motors are there so the subframe houses propellant tanks, same with beware of blast marking on the sensor part in the nosecone. It houses an apogee motor for attitude control
@mark_spit7839Ай бұрын
Thx for double checking the knee joint. I’m glad it’s been confirmed. If I’m not mistaken, the DX doesn’t even have that - it’s just a single joint.

One note about the "caution propellant" warning: aircraft can have propellant in vertical tails. While not functioning as primary tanks, they can be used to vent off excess fuel due to pressurization changes or when selected to do so by the pilot. A common example of this is the F/A-18 Super Hornet, as you can see them vent naturally during catapult launch if the internal tanks are filled above a certain capacity.
@ScorchedEarthToysАй бұрын
Interesting, thanks for the insight! I'm not sure Robotech ever really explained how protoculture fuels the vehicles or how that might impact that.
@felderupАй бұрын
@@ScorchedEarthToys afair, if you read the books, at least for the section of the story with vf-1's, the engines were alien tech based, an improvement to plain ol nuclear engines, compress air from the intakes, heat it and blow it out the exhaust turbines. tanks of water were carried to make steam as propellant. for the mospeada part, iunno, i forget. if the tail fins were venting steam... not as pleasant as getting splashed with fuel, full body scalds tend to not be pleasant in general.
@Pathfinder11818 күн бұрын
@@felderup Should also mention in space the tails could hold reaction mass for the thrusters, simple to keep something simple and inert, (water etc) in the tail section, probably also help keep the fighter balanced during those long flight hours or transformation.
@felderup18 күн бұрын
@@Pathfinder118 the x-ray drawings, showing the internals, show reaction mass tanks all over the things, the 'super' packs have way more. it's like they took the standard fuel bladders and went kabonkers, the valkyries would have been heavy beasts at mission start.

This is a really nice model, and I think absolutely embodies the spirit of the anime. I like the panel lines in Battloid mode, but strangely I find them a bit over the top in Fighter mode. I really like its size.

This version does have some advancements over the previous versions that I really like but takes a few steps back too. My main gripe is that since this is based on the tv series version, Rick should be holding a control stick and they could have added the more accurate HUD like the DX version did. The odd design for the elbow joint I also don't really like. The gap behind the head is an eyesore too. I hate that these newer versions have a built in flap that tries to fill in the gap but it doesn't do a good job. I don't mind a separate part for this like the side covers. The HMRs have that optional piece that fills the top around the head very well and gives it a clean, detailed look too. I'd probably get one of these Robo-Dous if I see them at a lower price but I just can't see collecting them when I already have most of the V2 1/60s.

This is actually my favorite vf-1 that I've owned. Articulated hands that can fold into the arm are the only thing I thought it was missing.

I really like this version and glad I have one. I can’t wait to get the VF-1S. Hopefully they will make an armor set to purchase. I also like that this version of the toy looks more like the animation itself.
@RayShadow278Ай бұрын
It's absolutely an homage to the animation error where the sensors shoot beams, because that's also why in the Robotech universe the YF-1R exists lol By that logic, that time Max had missiles mounted on his vertical stabilizers is also canon to the Robotech universe

Do you think this is a good substitute for the Arcadia toy? Sadly I don’t think three zero will make the DYRL version
@ScorchedEarthToysАй бұрын
Yes, definitely a good substitute but I concur, there almost certainly will not be DYRL repaints.

Because the _Super Dimension Fortress Macross : Do You Remember Love?_ movie remains outside of Harmony Gold's "license" it is unlikely we will ever see toys from it by any manufacturer associated with Harmony Gold - but Bandai or Yamato can crank out "movie version" toys anytime, based on their separate _Macross_ license...

I was originally bummed out by the scale of the figure but it actually turned out great since I own the DX VF-31AX and in universe the Kairos is a significantly larger vehicle than the VF-1.
@tuhkathri9126Ай бұрын
I’m in the minority but I care less about transformation then I do about line art accuracy. I wish they would make non-transformable versions of each mode with perfect line art representation, like they do with their transformers line. I already have a ton of transformable versions.

If it's just the VF-1 it's the DX toy but I think there's room for improvement. If it's any Macross fighter, I really enjoy the DX YF-29 and the VF-31 toys (not so much the 31AX toys).

Helpful. Good review. But will wait for a shadow or stealth variant. Scared of yellowing on these toys.
@archienovАй бұрын
I don't think you have to worry about yellowing on this figure as it is fully painted, including all the white parts.
@Williestyle-RobotechxMacross-x8 күн бұрын
The "yellowing" is really only an issue on older toys wade with "fire retardant" plastic. Yellowing on white plastic is also (mostly) reversible, there are videos showing how to properly use hydrogen peroxide for this, on here.

Just got this. Both this and the weathered version were available. Now I have a number of their DLX Bumblebee movie transformers figures and the weathering is bloody fantastic on that. On the VF-1J however I didn't like it. It looked painted on. Maybe the all white makes it difficult to do unless they really take their time to do it right. I build Macross model kits and the weathering portion is when I really have to concentrate the most. Coming back to this figure. I really like it. I like that it's a little chonky. It brings the aesthetic of the anime a little more than Bandai's DX. There's some really nice innovations and with that makes this on par with the Bandai DX. Both have a couple of things here and there that they do better than the other. But not big enough for me to definitively say one trumps the other. Ah collecting Macross/Robotech has just become more difficult.
@TobinRussell7 күн бұрын
Could you please comment on the toughness of this toy? I was told at Comiccon 2024 that it is mostly die-case metal. Is this true? Older versions had bad shoulder joints that would easily break. Has this been remedied? I sure hope they bring us an Alpha fighter as well.
@JonHuhnMedicalАй бұрын
"This toy has a waste mechanism..." and proceeds to lift the flaps covering the butt. Took me a few seconds to figure out you meant waist.
Why they keep making the wings longer than the line art is beyond me. Shorter wings would also make battloid look closer to line art

It's interesting to see how much "shared" engineering and ideas there are in this toy in comparison to Bandai and Yamato/Arcadia's offerings. Some ideas have been borrowed less successfully, unfortunately. Three Zero even borrowed the locking wing connectors for some reason. There are some nice innovations and improvements too though. :)

Blast by nose cone properly refers to nose lasers that are hardly used. Also, the panel line is too dark, otherwise a decent figure for price, but it's robotech.

They're not lasers... they're sensors. It's only an animation error that causes them to look like lasers in one scene.

The elbow joints of this Toy are defective. Just look at how they work in the box art pics and then look at your Toy. This Is a big flaw i contacted them and they refused to give an exlplanation for this flaw saying It Is a sensitive issue buy said they Will probably correct that in a future release. Meanwhile we waisted our Money with a defected Toy that without this defect would have been the best vf-1 Toy ever made.
@Williestyle-RobotechxMacross-x8 күн бұрын
"...the best vf-1 (sic) Toy ever made." Only in terms of paint details at this scale. The Bandai DX toy is every bit as "good" and is in a larger scale. The KitzConcept toys have some similar levels of paint details, but are smaller and tend to be more fragile overall. Nothing about this toy is truly "new" or all that special. And ThreeZero are making us "beta testers" just like for the KitzConcept "version 1" VF - 1S toys, at almost the same price too.
