Just wait till you realize they removed the most important features of the OG editor, just so you have a stripped down version of Dorico inside Cubase. If you write for the orchestra, this will be a downgrade. If you do basic notation, yeah, I guess it can work.

If you write for orchestra you would be using dorico and not the old cubase editor anyways. Having the new editor and dorico be able to comunicate seemlessly is perfect
@ettiennelane917321 күн бұрын
@@martmakesmusic You are correct. I was creating some notation for a 5 piece yesterday and eventually (out of pure frustration) I exported (from Cubase) to a Dorico project just to add the final details. Adding dynamic markers and hair pins are painfully slow inside Cubase. Also, no rehearsal markers inside Cubase. Editing notes are easier in Cubase, well at least the way I do it. Thought I could stay in Cubase for everything, but it's okay to move over to Dorico during a project.

This feature is awesome and I have bought Cubase 14 right away. I wish you could insert notes like in Dorico, which is really fast, in order to create a rudimentary MIDI score. Like a much better version of the step input, adapted to regular keyboards. It's the next step. And the transfering from Cubase to Dorico is awesome, I'm looking forward for Dorico to do the same thing (as my workflow is more Dorico To Cubase than Cubase to Dorico). I wish I could use both programs at the same time, talking together. Great video and greater display 🤣

@@PaulWalmsley_whams I'm relieved to hear that hide is still on the list, it's truly the feature that made Cubase's score editor unique and powerful. Great new feature! To what extent this doubles Dorico in Cubase, and which important features would still make a person use Dorico on top of Cubase 14?
@timleiser98992 ай бұрын
There are so much features in Dorico, that are not in Cubase. I don´t even know where to start. Maybe the Engrave-Mode in Dorico? The Popover-Workflow? The very different Expression-Maps? Condensing? Creating Worksheets. But if you only want to print some Notes... Cubase might be enough.

As someone who composes 95% in Dorico and thinking about writing in terms of score / vertical harmony, my larger concern would be more about writing inside of the score and seeing all my parts as they relate (i.e., view all my strings as I would in Dorico). I really can't deal with piano rolls because I just have always found it hard and opaque to read music that way. Anyway, hoping this will be at least decent for writing/input, since I am not really concerned about part preparation for live players (which I would do in Dorico anyway).

Great video Dom as always! But honestly, the most important tool that was in previous versions is missing here, which is CLEAN NOTE OVERLAPS and some others. You showed all that nicely, but what about when I play long notes on the keyboard, for example in the bass... those long notes should sound like long notes, but rhythmically they should be written, for example, as 1/8 notes, but however they are written as notes connected by a ligature (because of the longer duration (overlap). The problem is in reading, because the person who reads such notes cannot judge which notes are rhythmic, which is a big problem. When you play a prelude in 1/16, the notes are written as 1/16 and that's how it should be, but since the notes overlap in the live performance, Score Editor writes them as Overlap and that's a problem. if that QD works so well? Apparently it doesn't work well or we don't know where it can be adjusted. In any case, the old options are missing, one of which is called CLEAN NOTE OVERLAPS!!! Please make a tutorial how to solve that problem. I was planning on getting Dorico, but if this is an example of how Dorico works, there's no way I'll ever use it. This is a total anti-advertisement for Dorico! One of the reasons why I updated to cubase 14 pro is your video, but in reality it doesn't work so obviously, I'm personally very disappointed. If I'm missing something, tell me what, because this still doesn't work properly. The possibility of adjustment for each line is missing Page Setup - Interpretation options - Consolidate Rests, clean lengths, no overlap, Shuffle....without this, the notation is still illegible and incomprehensible even for academic musicians

When entering lyrics in the score editor of Cubase 14, the lyrics do not reflect in the MIDI note’s note expression. In previous versions, such as Cubase 13, the lyrics were reflected. Is there a way to resolve this issue? This functionality is essential when using a vocal synthesizer.

Dorico user here. I really want to get into Cubase, but I am very much a notation-based composer. I love looking at the score, the MIDI view is just a little overwhelming and i can’t interpret my music the same. However, I feel limited by Dorico in terms of VSTs, synths, and overall production which i am really interested in. Will Cubase support a score editor that allows note by note input like Dorico? I’m no pianist, and would love the ability to individually enter notes and see the score rather than real time production. Great to see this feature being added though, really awesome stuff!

The Cubase score editor is more focussed on creating great notation from MIDI. It is possible to create scores from the score editor, but if that is your main method of input then it's going to be a lot slower than doing it in Dorico, which is optimised for that task.

Hi Dom. As a composer I’m excited about the integration with Dorico technology with the new Cubase score editor. However, I really hoped that the Expression Maps would have received an update. Why no negative track delay offset per articulation for the expression maps? It is possible in Dorico. That is what I’ve been hoping for since the past few updates and every time it gets overlooked… It seems so unnecessary to either have multiple tracks for each articulation per instrument (with negative track delay) or have the expression maps with one track, but not have notes on the grid because they all have different sonic starting points… If it isn’t in the grid from the start then even with the new quantise feature for the score it is still a lot of unnecessary tweaking. Plus having separate tracks per instrument makes using the score editor much more difficult. There should be a way to streamline this. I really hope Steinberg is listening. I know I’m not the only composer asking for this feature for many years now. Please.

I have been a Score Editor user for decades. Mainly for lead sheets with chord symbols and small piano arrangements. I tested the new Score Editor for this application. In my opinion, it has become much worse, as some things no longer work in the new version: No manual entry of chord symbols in the music sheet. That is an absolute no-go for a lead sheet. No Hide Function. Also a no-go. No possibility to move elements manually. Also a no-go. No possibility to set the playback position in score. No-go. Wow, these four things alone are indispensable. Come on, Steinberg, this can't be true. No easy setting of the polyphonic display of a track (single, polyphonic, split with split point) instead inflexible instruments. I don't understand why, for example, it is not possible to set even a single staff for a piano instrument. Can you create self-defined instruments? An octave key does not adjust the notes. That was very handy. Swing eighth notes/triplets are sometimes displayed incorrectly. Swing eighth notes cannot be displayed as normal eighth notes (old shuffle setting). No Real Book setting. MIDI bending is still not shown in the note display. This is very disappointing. But it could be that I didn't find it where some things can be adjusted.
