Imo cracker barrel is awesome, it's a old country vibes restraunt and I haven't had a bad meal from the couple I have been too although like any food place locations vary. I believe the joke is that most crackerbarrels have large stores connected as entrance with all kinds of junk and goodies so some people might actually go there to shop and not eat but that's just my guess

So, to spoil the game (as much as that's possible), the guy that gets immersed in the flesh and the guy that takes the umbilical cord out are two different guys! The first guy somehow becomes a parasite and latches onto #2 guy, providing inventory system but also slowly killing him. They get separated by the torture wheel, but the #1 guy ambushes you in the end cutscene and then you meld into a flesh tower for some reason. I didn't know that I was playing two guys until after I finished the game and read about it somewhere. That revelation did not make the disappointing "plot" anymore interesting.

The Cracker Barrel references throughout this just made it better, especially from someone who worked in the gift shop area, it is indeed filled with junk, but nowadays it has Pokemon cards/toys and as an expectant father of twins, my wife likes some of the cutsie stuff there. Also, that was an inside look at Cracker Barrel, just missing waiters yelling at each other for not doing stuff right and managers hiding in their office.

This game is pretty much fits the quote “All Style, No Substance”. I get they were trying to build the atmosphere, but this is one of those games that would have definitely use needed some in game objects to explain some of the lore. Even Dark Souls had some NPC and texts that gave glimpses of the world within.

Its a shame Scorn was so mid, it has fantastic atmosphere, sound design, and art direction. Unfortunately, the puzzles aren't super engaging and the shooting is clumsy, so those two parts cut into the exploration of the world

We don't have Cracker Barrel here in Italy, but we do have some equivalent. That being of course, Old Wild West, which is a western themed restaurant that serves mostly wild west inspired food like chili, burgers, steaks that kind of stuff. However their absolute shot stopper is their home made sauce. That stuff is absolutely delicious, of you ever come down here, buy a jar of it, they sell that in the restaurants too. There are also self serve barrels filled with peanuts and you can grab as many as you'd like since they're free.

I held off on this game until it was about $20 and for that price I was satisfied. It was like an art exhibit. You don't have fun but you are simply there to just take in the sights. I am a big fan of H.R. Giger's work ever since I saw ALIEN so I was in this for only one reason and that was to experience a game inspired by his art. The Art book is pretty cool as well and goes deeper into the lore a bit.

Very fair review. I love the world design, atmosphere & music in this game, but the combat isn't very enjoyable and the puzzles are a bit generic. The world is very tight & in enclosed spaces, which, compounded with the current shallowness of the combat/enemies, makes the fighting sections a chore rather than something fun. I think some sort of combination of the two mechanics, puzzles and combat, would've been worlds better. Non-direct combat such as making traps, crushing enemies with the environment, blocking passages, ect. would've fit the slow pace of the game much better. This would also allow for non-linear gameplay too, like you being able to choose whether to outright kill an enemy with a trap, or simply enclose it within an area. Can't stress enough how disappointing they didn't make the environment interact with enemies in any meaningful way, since it seems like such an obvious solution for the lackluster combat. At least to me anyways.

I think what a lot of people don’t get is that the combat isn’t supposed to be satisfying to engage with. And neither is anything else in the game. It’s a nightmarish, unforgiving hellscape…so it follows that the clunkiness of it all is fully intentional and in lockstep with the larger experience they were trying to create. You’re not a demi god and this isn’t Doom. Obviously, the game is clearly not everyone’s cup of tea. And that’s fine. But many developers have done this before (admittedly, at the expense of a larger audience) and will continue to do so. The prime example of this being the Pathologic series. Scorn is more of an art project to be felt and experienced than it is a standard video game. I just think so many people are missing the point and going into it with the wrong perspective. What arthouse is to film, Scorn is to video games.

That's not true, there are two pathways to open the 2-Hand-Button-Door. Either you free the "guy" and give him the glove thing and open the door together with him (then you abandon him lol) or you scoop him out of his egg where he dies and gets reduced to slop. You can then pick up his arm, put the glove thing on and use his severed limb to open the door. Either way, poor "guy". Still not as bad as what Oboeshoe did in 2001.
