I know im late but i started playing Scorpion a few weeks ago. I use Goro so i'll comment based on that if anyone wants to read. Scorpion has very good neutral control and with Goro his long range low actually becomes super dangerous as you can combo with it. His 214 also becomes a combo with Goro. In all instances you can use Goro to keep yourself safe. Even Spear can be safe if you call Goro and you can actually react call him. Another major thing, you cannot jump against a good Scorpion. His anti-airs are very good and they lead to alot of damage if you spend meter. You can play mind games with his air grab scythe special, once they fall to the ground you can grab, or if they dont respect that thats where his mid comes in as the air grab scythe special puts them as close as possible to you so you can immidiately use the mid to get another combo. You can also do alot of stuff that Avirk talks about, like poke back dash and punish and with Goro you can use the low that way too and to much better effect because of the range. Last but not least, when they are down i tend to use the low but some of them jump forward and the low misses. Thats when Goro comes in, call him on you and he will anti-air and you can connect spear to punish them too. If you use Scorpion as a neutral heavy, patient character that likes to annoy and condition enemies, then Goro helps very well with that and makes Scorpion very dangerous.

I've tried back 3 sweep (close range) with scorpion cameo for a luncher it does start a combo, but in a competitive game (with an experienced player?) It'll probably be a hurtful punish you'll more likely use it once as a surprise but hey it's a tool u can use tho...

I agree, he has no good block string for pressure, if you wanna combo, you’re basically forced to do it in air. He has zero mix ups, and whilst he does good damage, he has virtually no way of opening an opponent to pull it off. I’m disappointed.

You gotta work so hard to open people up and we’re basically playing strike throw again. My guess is his strength will be in kameos but gahdamn, we need buffs

Right I just said this! On mk11 he had an over head & low starter & all his strings could be hit confirmed into enhanced teleport or teleport cancel to be safe. This year it’s so hard to open good opponents up because they duck & poke right in the middle of your string 😡

Great guide. Honestly, I think down 4 may prove to be useful. It's plus 15 on hit and safe on block. I think it's a solid tool to low profile high attacks from close range and its plus enough to jail into 21.

1:30 His down+4 as a poke may suck, but it looks like it might have some applications as an anti-air kick. Not as good as Terminator's in MK11, but it still kicks his leg to a decent height above the floor. 🤔

Ty for the guide! I am just having some issues with timing for meter burn (its way stricter in this game) and also cancelling into the right special. What setting do you have for special input window? (long, mid, short) and do you use negative edge?

Meter burn seems pretty difficult in general but I have long (the timing is strict even with long so I keep it), but I have negative edge turned off. I've seen guides suggesting to also turn off negative edge, some people prefer medium buffer window to help prevent the wrong special from coming out (which has happened a couple of times). Another thing is to turn off shortcut inputs if you are getting the wrong special to come out. It will sometimes read the last hit from a string and use it for your special. Say you do a 1,2 string then bf3 or something, your special might get changed to bf2 because of the input shortcut "fixing" your input.

Any time you're playing footsies (going back and forth), looking for that whiff punish, and you press something like F3 to punish your opponent you're gonna get a BF3 special instead, if your character has it. In Scorpion's case, specifically, you're gonna keep getting BF2 instead of going into 21 to whiff punish. I know you mentioned it, but that issue is massive.

What's the timing on calling scorpion kameo? Do you press it with the db2 same time? Also is it neutral assist or up or down?

It’s a neutral assist. Usually I call it as soon as the hook connects but the timing varies depending on height

As I’ve started to go up in Kombat League I’ve just been losing to characters with mix, low pokes, and armor. It’s hard for me to find my openings and so I lose to characters that mash on me. Also test 21 plus db2 cyrax horizontal spin on a Shao. Shao I’m pretty sure can wake up from that with his armored special move. That knee slam thing. My friend who plays shao has just been getting me with that and I thought it was safe entirely.

Idk why Scorpion players aren’t as mad as I am with how basic and quite frankly useless his kit is in this game he needs buffs bad. I don’t mind him being a whiff punish character but some of his buttons either need to be faster or they give him some mids cuz that knee mid isn’t that good when you practically need to be in their face when that’s the one place Scorpion doesn’t want to be

Many have jumped on the cyrax deathspin meta chasing thing and while it is very good it very boring and only people who care about winning will use it then claim scorpion is S tier when in reality the character is lacking and completely carried by a broken kameo atm. Hopefully these kameos get nerfed so some of these lacking characters can actually be exposed.

Lvl 95 MK11 scorpion main here bro & I’m with you. He sucks this year. No low or overhead starters, his teleport sucks this year, only good for air combos that’s it. All his strings are predictable & duckable. In MK11 every move could be hit confirmed or hell port canceled to keep you safe. This year good luck opening good players up because they’re gonna duck & mash you to death. His hell flame is useless, everyone jumps over & punishes tf outta you. They completely removed his b3 overhead from mk11. Only thing they got right with him this year is making his spear a stun again & giving him an air spear that’s it! Smoke’s cancels & teleport cancels & enhances are what scorpions should’ve been.

dbfu are directions, down, back forward and up. Numbers are attack buttons. 1 is front punch 2 is back punch 3 front kick 4 is back kick. It is used to have a system-independent notation.

Scorpion's gameplan's a bit tough to utilize, the character itself is very easy, though. Johnny's just nuts. Smoke's awesome, but almost everybody is playing him - if you aren't bothered by that you can easily just play Smoke. To be honest no one can really tell you who to main, but no matter what you decide just don't make the mistake of never picking or constantly bouncing between characters without actually learning the game's fundamentals. Choose one and stick with it until you learn the game. After that your perception of characters will change anyways, so if you're not happy with your main you can easily switch.

I have been following and learned from you for years brother. Hats off to you and thank you for helping us with your videos. Avirk i completely agree with how his not top tier. I found out how your teleport can be safe with cyrax. As soon as i teleport i hit cyrex F-RB and if he meshes or tries to hit me cyrex spins and take him up in the air it works for me everytime and i get a combo off that. The hardest thing for scorpion like you said opening someone up because he doesnt have much going for him when u look at all the mixup characters compared to him. Its very unfortunate. Have you expressed your issues with NRS about Scorpion? I am very curious to know if you did.??

Yes possibly, scorp has many mix options with the use of kameos, frost also has a low freeze, and scorp has an overhead string, your opponent has to guess now,

@@AVirk- yea I’ve definitely found sektor to be really helpful. I’ll keep using him as my main kameo with scorpion. His missile has been a life saver. If there are any other good kameos that go well with scorpion pls let me know 😊

I use Stryker with Scorpion. He's good for giving Scorpion some mix up pressure the problem is that you only get a setup off a hit with Strykers mix ups. So you still have the problem of no good set ups with Scorpion you just get some more damage and the ability to condition a bit. His grenades are good for setting up advances into pressure and extending combos. His handcuffs are essentially a long range capture states but why would you use them when you're using Scorpion. His spear is better than the handcuffs. So there's possibility with Stryker but you're still gonna have to work and pull some big brain stuff.

Scorpion needs some milk. He has no mix, no plus frames. All you can do really is whiff punish with 2 and hope for the best.
