Duff was actually anti-drug. He knew he was fucking up his life, he was quite depressed at this point in life. He threw a coke party at his house and some of his drug buddies came over for the weekend to binge and the following week he found a positive pregnancy test. He confronted the couple and said that they needed to clean up, he would pay for all of their rehabs, and that the baby's life was more important. They were not interested so he said he had to block them out of his life. He wrote about that in his book and it really fucked with him.
