Scotland Road Trip 2022 - North West Highlands - Assynt - Lochinver & Suilven

Hello guys
This was our first day in the far North West of Scotland. A stunning landscape of mountains, moorland, bog, lochans and seascapes.
We stayed in Lochinver for a week, and travelled around the North West from there.
On our first day, we tried out the famous Lochinver Larder - it's a place where people come from far and wide to try the legendry Lochinver Pies. -Succulent, sweet and savoury - we tried the Venison and Cranberry first - absolutely delicious!!
Red Deer have made Lochinver their home. Gardens all have high fences to try and protect shrubs and flowers and vegetables!! We had a chat with one on the way into the village!!
Managed to get the drone up finally after three days of constant rain, so you can see just how rugged and beautiful the landscape is.
Suilven maybe the most iconic mountain in the whole of Scotland. There has even been feature films made about it. More footage to follow of this amazing looking mountain.

Thanks Dave. It really is magnificent up there. Ha that deer was one of many around there. They have no natural predators and they have become a bit of a pest around the village. Gardens have high fences to protect vegetables and flowers!! But the whole place feels so very different to where we’re from in the South! Glad you enjoyed it 👍👍👍

The pies looked so good. Love that the buck just kinda stood there and let you get close. He knows good people when he sees them. The views were just gorgeous, and of course the music went perfectly with it.

Hiya Bill and Jena - yes the Red Deer around there are regarded as pests. Very tame and therefore they are always in gardens taking vegetables etc. they have no natural predators so there are a lot of them!! It’s funny when you see Iconic Scotland images with the majestic Stag on a hilltop. The reality for the locals around there is very different!! But what a wonderful area it is!! Scotland looks stunning! Even in the cloudy aftermath of the rain! The deer was beautiful - we love catching wildlife sightings while out and about! Hi Gijs. Blue Sky you say? 😃😃😃. I think that was many miles from us on the coast 😃😃 But seriously, a wonderful place. Very remote but majestic scenery. The mountains seem to rise straight out of the bogs and lochans into the clouds. We didn’t sample much of the whisky - although Talisker on Skye is a favourite. Hi Dave and Sue! Good thing you brought your warm rain gear… seems like it was pretty rainy and windy for your trip… but exciting to see wild Scotland and get out for some nice walks! The Harbor area looks wonderful… very colorful boats. The pies sound excellent… I think we would have to try both sweet and savory. Hi Jen. Yep it was wet and windy all week we were there but it’s a wonderful area and we saw so much!! Ha that Pie Shop is legendary - a really remote area but it’s always busy. They do sweet and savoury. Our favourite was Venison and Cranberry. Absolutely delicious!! The Red Deer around there are almost tame! We were so surprised! In fact they’re regarded as a bit of a pest up there. All the gardens have deer fences as otherwise any flowers shrubs or vegetable plots would be decimated. But for us it was magical to see them so close! A wonderful place - we must go back soon!!

Something we always remember about the highlands is how some of the deer don't seem to fear humans at all, allowing you to get very close without running off. Those pies were legendary 😃😃😃. We did have the sweet pies. - strawberry was amazing!! It’s a brilliant place - set remote but there was always a queue. No idea where people came from 😃😃 The deer are basically pests up there. They’re everywhere!! All the gardens have high fences to keep them out!! Hi Kat. Couldn’t believe the Red Deer around there. It’s an iconic species in Scotland with the Stag etc. but in reality in a place like Lochinver they are regarded as pests!! Almost tame and do a lot of damage. All of the gardens have high fences to keep them out of the shrubs, flowers and vegetable plots. I thought of your plot this year! But yes it is a majestic.Countryside up there. Very special. Just a bit of a shame that we didn’t get the weather to be able to show it off to its full. We loved it there!

Hi Dave and Sue , so good that you had nicer weather for your second week there, the fishing village that you stayed in sounded lovely . I liked the photos that you inserted into the video especially of the pie which sounded delicious :) That deer there was so cute and you captured him perfectly as he stared at the camera calmly ! Loved the harbour footage with the boats and that hotel that looked a bit like a castle was lovely and so was the church and monument, and the sign about the brain was funny 🤭 Loved the drone footage over the lochs and land and that iconic bulk suilven was fascinating. It’s a stunning place Anna. Feels really remote. There’s not much up there really apart from mountains and lochans and sea but it’s really beautiful. Lochinver was a great little place - the pie shop is brilliant. It’s always busy - no idea where all the people come from 😃😃😃 And yes Suilven is such an iconic mountain - you can see it from many miles away. And all the mountains are sort of separate - just big blocks of rock. Lots more of the area to share. Hope you guys are having a good weekend 👍👍👍

This is a stunning wild landscape and a treat for the eyes. I watched an episode of Dads Army just before seeing your movie and I was reminded of Frazier talking about the Island of Barra as a wild and lonely place while watching your shots. Of course this part of Scotland is not like the Hebrides; but it is still stunning! But I must admit one thing - this is the first time I have heard about Suilven! Hiya Ant. Glad you enjoyed it. Dads Army - best comedy show ever written!!!! Nothing like it 😃😃😃 It’s interesting - this area of North West Scotland is very similar to the Outer Hebrides especially the Isles of Lewis and Harris. We’ve visited these islands a few years back and there are definitely similarities. Mile after lonely mile of bog and lochan and mountain - just incredible and majestic scenery. Hopefully we will be able to show you more in future vids. And Suilven. A really iconic mountain. Maybe the most photographed in Scotland? It was just a shame that we didn’t get any really good light to show it off. It had its moody hat on all week. 😃😃 Hope you enjoy the rest of our trip mate. And hope you’re having a great weekend 👍👍👍

We didn’t get great weather for the week but it didn’t really impact much at all. The scenery is majestic!!! Ha yes that deer - they’re regarded as pests in the village - everyone has high deer fences around the properties to protect veg and flowers!! They seem to be everywhere too.
