It really is isn’t it. We’re going back to Mull and Ardnamurchan this year We loved Assynt. And the road was amazing. Although later in the week we did the Southern half which is even more beautiful if that’s possible! And we found out that the bit between Achiltibuie and Lochinver is the true “Wee Mad Road” we did a vid on that too. Thanks for watching and your kind comment Wayne. Hope you’re doing well. 👍👍👍

A local came on here and informed me that the Southern section of the road is the real “wee Mad Road” - but we didn’t think that was wee er of madder 😃. Although it did have better views. So so nice Dave and yes it might well be the most beautiful road . I loved the time-lapse where we got to see so much on this wee mad road and it was so scenic. Loved the little stop off points that you did at the beautiful beach and lake and you took nice pictures of Sue and you both having the tea and scones and nice shoutout 😃 . That tree that you filmed was almost horizontal with the wind 🤭 The mountains were stunning as you drove along and I loved that ferry jetty area . Such a lovely place. Lovely video of one of the best bits of Scotland. I last travelled this road in 1966 in my (t)rusty Morris Minor. And I agree with an earlier comment that more houses are evident now and conspicuously more traffic. Ohh .. and there is now a bridge at Kylesku ... What a good idea; I had to use the ferry !

I would imagine it would be impassable quite a lot in winter. There’s so many steep and windy sections across moorland that some of those communities must be cut off at some stages But what a place to be cut off anyway 😃😃

Oh it’s a great road Sue. You would love it. So many little wild camping spots and the beaches are sublime!! Every turn has a hidden bay or a beach or a lochan or an amazing mountain view. Drumbeg is a great little place and the beaches at Achmelvich and Clachtoll are amazing!! Bit of a grey and murky day for this one but it didn’t matter - the scenery made up for it. Some say this is the most beautiful road in the UK. I reckon we might just agree. 👍👍

Ha thanks Gracie. Yes it’s an incredible little road. So so beautiful. The West Coast of Scotland is a little bit like the West Coast of Ireland - although the mountains are a bit higher in Scotland. We loved travelling that road. We filmed the Southern part on another video and that was even more spectacular!

We stayed in Nedd 5 years ago for a week of hillwalking in the area. We did Quinag, Cul Mor, Suilven and Stac Pollaidh. That narrow road is a bit special! 😆 love your video. Brings back great memories! Thank you.

Another challenging drive on a very narrow and winding road. Thought some of our roads were narrow but this one was extreme. Backs my reason to go on backroads. Views many do not venture out to see. It’s been a good one thanks mate. Hope yours has too. Scotland’s tourist board came up with “The North Coast 500” a few years back. It has meant that the roads up there have become really busy. Luckily this road was considered too small - some say it’s the most beautiful road in the UK. We wouldn’t disagree - a hidden bay or beach or lochan or mountain view around every turn. We loved it - even though it’s a bit mad and the weather was grey and murky!

The sea comes into two lochs through a narrow channel which is where the bridge has been built. I think it’s a beautiful curved design which sort of fits with the landscape. It’s an amazing area!!!! Lovely Scotland! The scenery along the Wee Mad Road is beautiful … but it gets pretty exciting for a few minutes when someone is coming the other way! The drivers all seem very polite. The white sandy beach was sure pretty. The colors in Scotland are calm and serene! 👍👍👌

But yes, it’s single track with passing places - so you have to be careful and courteous to other drivers - some of the bends and climbs are a bit nerve wracking but it’s so worth it for the views!! It was a shame that it was so grey and murky - we had that weather all week we were there. And believe it or not - we filmed this in the middle of June!! But that’s Scotland - one day is glorious, the next can be stormy! Hope you’re doing well this weekend 👍👍👍

It’s an amazing little road Bruce. Every turn has another hidden bay or beach or lochan. And the mountain views are superb. Must be pretty much cut off at times in Winter. Loved it up there. I know what you mean about the bridge - the ferry used to be free to travellers - a tiny little boat really. But there are so many more people use that main road these days. Not many use the wee mad road luckily 😃😃😃

Lovely vlog of your journey over that road. However, the real 'wee mad road' is from Inverkirkaig to Coigach (and Achiltibuie) - that's south of Lochinver. Its even narrower and twisty that the coast road you took here. Well worth a run ...

Ah hi William- thanks so much - I’ve seen the Northern section called this but I realised that the Southern section is called it. Wasn’t sure who was right🤦🏻‍♂️ We did travel that Southern section too. Really couldn’t choose which was our favourite. But Achiltibuie must be one of the most beautiful places on planet Earth!! Thanks both. These comments are getting crazy. We’ve had that too!! Losing track!!! Yes it’s a brilliant road isn’t it. I found out afterwards that there’s a Southern section which we also did but didn’t get quite so much film. And that was spectacular too. We’ll be uploading that one soon. We found Assynt and Sutherland were absolutely stunning places. The majestic mountains seem to rise up straight from the bog!! And the lochans and the beaches are sublime! We really must get back there soon. Hope you guys are ok - miss your vids 👍👍👍👍👍

I hate driving on real narrow roads and even the roads that are not took bad, example the road around Loch Lomond, if you are the driver you can never appreciate the scenery, as you are to busy with your eyes glued to the road. If you are on holiday, you can always stop and fully appreciate it mind, which is why it always takes me so long to drive anywhere in the Highlands - I am always stopping lol, cheers Alan

A feature you missed in the car park to the north of the bridge on the left gong north is a monument to the men who trained to use the x-craft submarines in WW2.

Ah cheers Brian. We missed that - didn’t realise it was there. Apparently this isn’t the Wee Mad Road!! It’s actually the Southern section of the B869 - from Achiltibuie to Lochinver - that was really special. 👍👍 But this stretch is spectacular too!!

@@NBNatureTrailvan The southern section is more challenging with a steep cliff on one side and the sea on the other on some sections and very narrow elevated sections on others. Not recommended for campervans,.

Ha probably. But we tried to avoid the NC500 when we could this time - the single track roads are the best along that coast. Definitely Assynt - and Moidart and Ardnamurchan are on the list to get back to. Just amazing places!!
