My parents stayed there for one night on vacation many years ago and my mom swears she saw ghosts. Front desk had a picture of a blue boy sitting in one of the fireplaces while it was lit. They asked what the heck it was and staff told them it was a picture someone took and was awaiting being sent to Kodak for authentication.

I need a sugar daddy to buye a beautiful castle like this,so much history and so beautiful I k ow that bed isnt original but I still love the carving and detail in the headboard it's a beautiful bed even if it's a replica and the floor to ceiling fire place on the state room good god I want to be lady of that place . With my Scotsman by my side . .I've dreamt my whole life of going to Scotland where I feel I belong and falling in love with a Scottish man , and living there happily in a beautiful stone house that's filled with tons of history although I'd love a castle ,id still be happy with a farm house on its lands :p

My last name happens to be Borthwick. I've been in the castle when it was a private residence. Would love to go back and stay in it now.

I lived there for a few months in 1973. First in a small room off a spiral staircase in the main building then in the round tower to the right of the main entrance gate. Often left overnight on my own… felt other presences sometimes .. but not really in a scary way

My friends got married there before the big hotel chain purchased it a while back. It was a bit more rustic then. We stayed in the supposedly haunted "Crimson Room". Other than bad plumbing, no ghosts showed. I heard noises, but it was just the Hagus they served us for dinner working it's way thru my wife's digestive tract. We hired some cast members from "Braveheart" to do the wedding and it definitely felt like a special place!

if it was a choice between living as a prisoner back then or taking the leap for freedom, I think I would have taken the leap, at least in my younger days. ok so now the question is where can I buy one and how much?...lol yea I know crazy American.

I built this castle in minecraft a year ago! It has a surprisingly complicated interior, lots of twisting stairs and weird room entrances. Also, it has a really crazy chimney and toilet chute network. It took about a week over winter break to get it done, simply because of how thick the walls were, and how detailed the rooms were. I followed the floor plan and architectural drawings I found online so it is pretty much an exact replica of it in minecraft. It has to be one of my favorite minecraft recreations along with Dunollie. I haven't actually been there, so most of my references for that project were online, and this was one of them! I have it on my KZbin channel, and I was wondering. Since you guys have actually been there, are there any improvements I could do to the interior? There were lots of rooms that I could not find a single photo of, only the stone plan, so I have no clue how they were decorated or how the furniture within was arranged. I would love to know how close I got to the actual thing! (btw for the project I did restore the damaged wall and battlements)

Sorry for the delayed reply. We asked David, who said: "Please do pass on my appreciation of their efforts! The amount of detail they achieved is fantastic, and it made for a really enjoyable watch. The best source on Borthwick Castle that I'm aware of, other than a copy of the guidebook, is Richard Oram's study of it: Oram R (2015) Towers and Households in Later Medieval Scotland. In: Oram RD (ed.) 'A House That Thieves Might Knock At'. Tower Studies, 1 & 2. Donington: Shaun Tyas, pp. 231-257." We hope that's helpful 😊

From a much fractured line of Borthwick's, was just here two months ago with my brother. Thank you for bringing some attention to an amazing piece of history. The Borthwicks were an odd lot. If I had the talent I'd love to tell their story.

Apparently I'm part of that fractured line. I stayed here in 2004 for my sister's wedding. A decade later, while doing a family tree on Ancestry, I discovered an ancestor(Grandfather, cant remember how far down the line) of ours actually built it. We had no idea when we stayed there. It was seriously one of those WTF moments.

I'm also a Borthwick descendant. (Our line left for America in the 1740s). My cousin's DNA test even matched the brother of the current (24th) Lord Borthwick. Would very much like to know more about the "odd lot"
