Nice train journey from my hometown Glasgow. I hope you had time to take the train to Mallaig. The route and Glenfinnan Viaduct are featured in a Harry Potter film. Glasgow to Fort William by bus, Scottish Citylink, is very scenic as it goes along the Clyde, then close to Loch Lomond. From Crianlarich the bus goes through dramatic Glencoe to Fort William. Bus journey is really good.

Yes, I took the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig. It was great experience. Earlier I took a bus ride from Glasgow to Fort William as well.

Because the West Highland Line uses a more old fashioned method of track maintenance. That being bolted rails as opposed to the more modern welded rail you get to experience the rather nice and satisfying clickety clack sounds on the trains wheels. You get the same experience if you travel between Inverness and Thurso and Wick on the far north line
@Travelwow72 жыл бұрын
Wow.. that’s an interesting information. The sounds were different. But, I will observe it during my trip to Inverness. Thanks for sharing the insights 👍

Only three coaches for FortWilliam and Oban which is too little for the busy summer traffic. I had to stand from Glasgow to Crianlarich where the trains splits and then I got a seat for Oban.

You would think Scotrail would put on some decent rolling stock considering it's the most scenic train ride in Scotland. It is a long journey on what is hardly better than a commuter train.
