The key to the scrum is in the front row, not the back row. Z Fagerson is up against a debutante which requires the Scots front five to ask the questions and get Karl Dickson onside with penalties. That is when the kicking games of Russell and White will allow Cherry to exhibit his higher lineout percentages. The first XV and substitute split also looks set for a big change after 50 mins to exert the squad depth and physicality element.

Fairly happy with the team but, like you, massively surprised at Cherry over Ashman. I did have a feeling Ritchie would start after his display against Australia and tbh McDowall plays with Jones at Glasgow, I reckon that may have swung it for Staff 👍. I'm slightly disappointed not to see Cameron Henderson on the bench but will fully back Gregor Brown to make an impact off the bench. We'll certainly see Henderson at some point during the 6Ns I'd say 👍👍.

I think it must be for the lineout ability, which does make sense. Ashman's throws have been a little... iffy on occasion, and with the amount of flair from the rest of the pack it does seem sensible to prioritise a strong set piece to work from.
