Honestly looks like Babb was trying to come down to cut the track off and take the inside line getting into 3 after the slider. But Bloomquist had a massive run out of 2. This stuff happens in a fraction of a second, you don't think to let off in that situation and by the time you do, you've already hit them. You see it all the time in all racing, if a driver hits another, they don't let out after they hit them, they keep going until the yellow is thrown. Apologize after but don't give up the spot. Much like in baseball when there's an injury on the basepaths. They still tag the guy out even though it's clear he's not going anywhere.

I have never raced, but I imagine the guys in/near the front have to make up their minds what they are going to do a little bit in advance based on their predictions. Bloomquist came down that straight faster than Babcock predicted? Two opposing race lines, and I bet both drivers thought, or pre-thought, that they would not contact. A batter has to start his swing based on where he thinks the ball will be and cant stop it after that. I am glad no one was hurt.
