This is not a "line of argumentation" you can simply watch and learn as an apologist. Only Scott Hahn can pull it off so effectively, in full mastery of the complexity of the issue. God bless you Dr Hahn. St Paul and St Luke, pray that many may see this video, those who need it most and can take it in best.

Carl, I liked your comment along w many others. I may have said it differently. I agree this line of argument likely would not work as a stand-alone in the context of having an Apologetic sort of conversation. But, I bet you (and others) could encorporate it into one. Probably best not to lead with it, however. Go Scott Hahn!!!!!!

@Thomase Synek Chaire kecharitomeno - you who are highly favoured? That still doesn't make her sinless! The Bible says, ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God! We were all born into sin because of what Adam & Eve did in the Garden of Eden. Nowhere does it say that Mary is an exception! The Bible does explicitly say that Jesus Himself was without sin, so why wouldn't they say that about Mary, if it were true!

@Thomase Synek I didn't know and still don't know what Chaire Kecharitomeno means - I just guessed what it might mean, 'you who are highly favoured'. That's why there is a question mark there. I certainly didn't use a Strong Concordance. Besides all that I am an ex Catholic. I already knew as a teenager that if I ever had children I would never send them to a Catholic school and I never did! In the Catholic church you have Nuns, Priests, Bishops, Archbishops, Cardinals and the Pope - none of which are allowed to marry! If that isn't weird enough the Pope believes he is replacing God on earth and that in itself is an abomination to God. The Bible is the Word of God! By the way Catholics are not Christians because they follow Mary rather that He who went to the cross. You only have to go to any Catholic website to see that it's all about Mary and then they say, we don't worship her, we only honour her! What a load of twaddle!

Wendy Jones, 3 things: 1. If you had listened to the talk, you would have heard that by typology, it is clear that Mary was the new Eve. The first Eve was free of sin when she came into being, so was the new Eve.2. The Angel Gabriel's first words to Mary during the announciation, were "Hail, Full of Grace. . ."3. Quoting a priest that Scott Hahn had spoken about in one of his talks: "If you had to create your own mother, wouldn't you create her without sin? Of course you will but you could not: Jesus did it, because he could! Would Jesus allow himself to assimilate flesh and blood from a stained mother? Of course not!

@@wendyjones3219 "Chaire Kecharitomeno" means Hail! *Full of Grace* "Full of Grace" is a phrase from the Old Testament. If one is "full of God's grace" one does not have sin within themselves. As the Orthodox say: " *It's a mystery* " (as they smile beatifically) The Orthodox call the BVM the "Theotokos"[1] (i.e. "God bearer"/"God-birther") The early Protestants agreed with the Catholic and Orthodox, as this article states[1] Western Christianity (Catholic and Protestant) are more "into" scholasticism and pronouncing dogma … (for Protestants the "five solae" are the de facto dogmas of Protestantism) than the Orthodox. Orthodox beliefs are ALMOST the same as Catholic beliefs (They disagree re: the Filoque clause and the Pope) but the 1054 "Great (east vs. west) schism was more about politics than religion per se. _____________________________ 1) Theotokos -- Calvin/Luther orthodoxwiki.org/Theotokos#Testimony_from_the_Protestant_Reformers

Veneration Of The Blessed Virgin Mary... "Why do Catholics worship Mary? After all, she is just a mother like any other mother." This is a question I have received many times from non-Catholics. A quick answer to that question is, "Yes, she is a mother like any other mother, but what a difference between the Sons." Name another mother where the word "son" for her offspring is always capitalized? A longer, and more comprehensive answer is to point to several errors in that one query alone. First, Catholics do not "worship" Blessed Mary, but we do take great pride in venerating her. I always ask the person who makes this charge to show me a genuine official Catholic document which instructs Catholics to "worship" Mary. Strangely, or maybe not so strangely, not one person who has been asked, has been able to provide such a document. Have you noticed that those who make false charges against the Catholic Church never have documented proof, taken in context, of what they charge? Second, she is not "just a mother like any other mother", as the critic suggested. Name another mother who was addressed by a messenger from GOD, the Angel named Gabriel, who asked that she consent to be the Mother of GOD? The words given to Gabriel by the Father: "Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women." Luke 1:28. Mary is the only person in the entire Bible to be called "Blessed art thou among women". Did you notice that the first person to begin praising Mary is GOD? Name another mother who was chosen, or even asked, by GOD to carry His only begotten Son? She was chosen by GOD, as GOD had chosen Abraham, and Moses, and many prophets before her. Name another mother who was called, "the Mother of my Lord (which means the mother of my GOD)", by the Holy Spirit filled Elizabeth? Luke 1:41-43 "In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord." Luke 1:39-45 Since Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, then it was the Spirit, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity, who supplied the words with which Elizabeth spoke. Consequently it was the Holy Spirit who really called Blessed Mary, the Mother of GOD. Mary had now been called "Blessed" by GOD the Father, the First Person, and by the Holy Spirit, the Third Person, as she carried the Second Person in her womb. The Holy Trinity was well represented in these verses. Name another woman who conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit? Luke 1:35-38 Name another mother who carried the Divine Person of GOD in her womb for nine months? Name another mother, whose child she carried, was the cause of a child in another mothers womb to leap for joy? Luke 1:44 Name another mother who gave birth to a person with two natures, one human and one divine? Name another mother from whom Jesus Christ received all of His genes? Name another mother from whom Jesus Christ received His flesh, blood, and bone? He is bone of her bone and flesh of her flesh. Name another mother from whom He received His eyes with which to see, His ears with which to hear, and His mouth with which to speak to us? Name another mother who gave us our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ? Without her we would have no Savior and no Gospel, just as without your mother there would be no you reading this now. Name another mother who retained her perpetual virginity from conception to the birth of her child, and then forever after? Name another mother who is so calumnized by non-Catholics who insist that she had other children besides the Lord Jesus Christ, when in fact she did not? Name another mother who could look down upon the infant Creator of the universe as she held him in her arms? All other mothers have looked up to GOD, not down. Name another mother in which the Creator of the universe was subject to her for many years? Luke 2:51 Name another mother who nursed the Creator of the universe and bathed Him? Name another mother who tucked in the Second Person of the Holy Trinity every night for years? Name another mother who taught the Creator of the universe the same things that all mothers teach their children? Luke 2:51-52 Name another mother who, for thirty years, told the creator of the universe what to do? Name another mother who served the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, three meals a day? Name another mother who sat across the table from the Holy Trinity every day for years at each meal? Think about it? Can the three persons of the Holy Trinity be separated? Are they three separate persons or are they three inseparable persons in one GOD? Since we all know that they are distinct but not separate, then all three persons are present wherever one is. Name another mother who lived with the Second Person of the Holy Trinity for 30 years? Just imagine, Jesus taught His disciples for only 3 years, but He taught His mother for many more. Name another mother who started the Creator of the universe on His ministry? John 2:3-11 Name another mother who was assumed into Heaven body and soul? After all of this, how could anyone ever say, Mary is just a mother like any other mother? Now I will ask those detractors, "Do you still think she was a mother just like any other mother?" Now do you still wish to ask why Catholics venerate the Mother of GOD ? Third, did you notice that the first part of the question that non-Catholics ask only contains five words, "Why do Catholics worship Mary"? The question should have at least one more word in it, for Holy Scripture demands it... Here are four applicable verses from "The Magnificat", the Canticle of Mary, from Luke 1:46-55... And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and Holy is His name." Luke 1:46-49 Mary is the only person in the entire Bible to say "All generations will call me blessed". There! Did you find the missing word? Now check your dictionary: "Behold", means to perceive visually and mentally, to comprehend, to understand what follows. "Henceforth", means from the time she said it until the end of time in an unbroken continuity. It does not mean, "some indefinite time in the future", as I have been told. "All generations", means just that, all generations, yours, mine, and every generation for the last 2000 years and all of those future generations as well. Not one person is exempted. "Will", denotes a command and not a suggestion. "Call me blessed". So far we have seen that Mary was called "Blessed" by the Father in Luke 1:28, and she was twice called "Blessed" by Elizabeth, being filled with the Holy Spirit, in Luke 1:42 and 45. Two persons of the Holy Trinity had already called Mary "Blessed", and we are commanded to do likewise in Luke 1:48. When GOD called Mary "Blessed", He venerated her. Since Holy Scripture was inspired by GOD, then aren't Mary's words here also inspired by GOD? Would any one of us dare to do less? As you can readily see, the Blessed Virgin Mary is closely intertwined with all three persons of the Holy Trinity. She is the daughter of the Father. She is the spouse of the Holy Spirit, and she is the mother of the Second Person, Jesus Christ. Name another mother with such impressive Trinitarian affirmation? Did the persons who posed the question, "Why do Catholics worship Mary", call her "blessed"? No, they did not. The word, "Blessed", was always the "missing" word. Out of the scores of times I have been asked that question, not one single non-Catholic has ever called her "Blessed Mary". What message do we get from all of this? It tells me that many of those who claim that they follow the Bible, in fact really do not. They pick parts of it (out of context) and then reject what they seem to think goes against their personal "feelings". A person's personal feelings have no bearing whatsoever on doctrinal truth. Personal "feelings" cannot be used as an excuse to reject parts of Holy Scripture. Either you accept it all, or you reject it all. Jesus Christ was the only person ever who was able to choose His own mother. Why then did He choose Mary? Why then do you, who posed the question at the beginning of this file, dare to reject her? I have given you the Scriptural authority as why we should venerate the Blessed Virgin Mary. Now I ask that someone show me the Scriptural authority which says we should not venerate her? If you cannot find such a verse then you will have to admit that Catholics are correct to venerate her. No Mary, no Jesus. It is as simple as that. "Let no one presume to hope for the mercy of GOD, who dares to slight or offend GOD's mother." Saint Louis de Montfort, "True Devotion to Mary"

Scripture says, "All generations shall call me blessed!" So, why dont you love Mary? Mary is the Mother of God and our Mother! Mary is the Mother of God, the Mother of Jesus, who is God. And Jesus gave her to us to be our mother. So, guess what, we treat her as our mother. We love her as our own mother. We do this in obedience to Christ and to the Word of God in Scripture. The problem is that Protestants don’t know Scripture nor the power of God. Therefore, they deny the will of God with respect to how you should relate to Mary. Scripture tells us to go beyond the letter to the Spirit of the Word: 2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. Because the truths of Scripture are spiritually discerned: 1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. So, in order to understand Scripture, we must go beyond the letter to the Spirit of the Word, because the Spirit is truth and life. This is going to kill Protestants, because they regularly refer to another verse which says: 1 Corinthians 4:6And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another. They use this verse to push their non-biblical Sola Scriptura doctrine. But that’s just another example of how Protestants use the Word of God to disobey God. That only says that we should not judge men before time. Let me read to you the previous verse: 1 Cor 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. 4 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. So, let us go directly to the Spirit of the Word! Jesus gave us His mother to be our mother John 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! 27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. 28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Catholics are taught to read Scripture as though God was speaking to us. Now, are you a beloved disciple of Christ? To put it differently, are you a disciple whom Jesus loves? Catholics would answer, “Yes” to that question and therefore accept Jesus command to take Mary as our mother and bring her into our home (i.e. heart). Then, you need to be aware of other verses in Scripture. Genesis 3:15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. The seed of the Woman is not just Jesus. Let me show you: Revelation 12:17And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Do you consider yourself someone who keeps the Commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus? If so, then you are seed or a child of the Woman. That Woman is Mary. And therefore, Scripture says that all who fight the good fight on behalf of God in Christ, are children of Mary. The perpetual virginity of Mary uplifts Christ precisely because His mother is not sullied. Ezekiel 44:2 And he said to me, “This gate shall remain shut; it shall not be opened, and no one shall enter by it; for the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered by it; therefore it shall remain shut. This gate is in a figure the Virgin Mary. Psalm 118:19 Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.20 This is the gate of the Lord;the righteous shall enter through it.21 I thank thee that thou hast answered me and hast become my salvation. This is why the Virgin Mary is in a figure, the mother of all the righteous: Revelation 12:17 Then the dragon was angry with the woman,[a] and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus. And he stood[b] on the sand of the sea. Mary was assumed into Heaven The Bible seems explicit to me concerning the assumption of Enoch. The Bible also seems explicit in explaining why Enoch was assumed into heaven: Hebrews 11:5 ….for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Now it seems to me that this sort of gives us a guideline or Biblical principle. Apparently, God will translate to Himself those who please Him. We know that we all await our translation to heaven body and soul, eventually, in the Resurrection. But apparently, God will translate some to Himself who please Him extraordinarily. Such as, Elijah and Moses ( 4 Kings 2:11; Jude 1:9). Now, if He did this in the past, why would God not do it in the future. After all, God is absolute and does not change. And isn’t Scripture clear that Mary pleased God: Luke 1:28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women….42 And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord. Additional texts which support the translation of Mary to heaven body and soul are these: Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven: and the ark of his testament was seen in his temple, and there were lightnings, and voices, and an earthquake, and great hail. Rev 12:1 And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars: John 17:24 Father, I will that where I am, they also whom thou hast given me may be with me; that they may see my glory which thou hast given me, because thou hast loved me before the creation of the world. Psalms 132:8 Arise, O Lord, into thy resting place: thou and the ark, which thou hast sanctified. I guess your next question is “what does the ark have to do with Mary?” I’ll let Scott Hahn answer that: The most prominent scriptural theme in the liturgical text of the Church when it comes to the feast of the Assumption, which we are celebrating happily today. You can see, if you had a missalette that the reading for the Vigil of the Assumption has some text that at first might seem to be rather odd and out of place. For instance, we had a reading from 1st Chronicles 15. It doesn’t mention Mary. All it talks about is how David assembled all Israel and Jerusalem to bring the Ark of the Lord to the place which he had prepared for it. …. And you’re thinking, “Why choose this text? There are literally thousands of texts to choose from, why a text about a box? And all of these guys jumping and singing and dancing around a box, and putting it in a tent and then singing and dancing and offering sacrifices and blessing people in the text?” Kind of unusual. But then for the Responsorial Song in the Vigil Mass from Psalm 132, the responsorial is , “Lord, go up to the place of your rest, you and the Ark of you holiness.” Now, this isn’t Noah’s ark, this is the Ark of the Covenant. We’ll get a little bit more into the background in just a minute, but why the Ark of the Covenant, and this is an ancient liturgical tradition. These are texts that have been included in the liturgy of the Assumption as far back as we can trace it, and this is like 7th Century, 6th Century. We can’t trace it back much farther than that, but all this historical evidence points to the fact that this has been celebrated from ancient times. So you can’t just say, “Well it popped out of nowhere in the 6th and 7th Century,” because back then Churches were liturgically hyper- conservative. I mean you didn’t just innovate and then say, “Well, we’ve got a new feast.” Then all of a sudden have it catch on in the Church all around the world. Protestants, although they claim to believe Scripture, reject the Scriptures which give Mary honor and glory. But no man could possibly give Mary the honor and glory which God gave her, when He made her the Mother of Jesus Christ, the Mother of God. Teaching them to obey everything i have commanded you, and surely i am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.. Matthew 28:20

In a human family if one does not love and respect the mother of their spouse it creates destructive elements in the marriage. However, if the "holy mother-in-law" can be loved and honored as much as the Son loves and honors her then how perfect is the life of this human family and it will be devoid of destructive elements.

So I'm a protestant, and while I understand that Mary is the human mother of the human flesh of Jesus (not the mother of the God) regardless of what the later commentators called her. I believe that she was a godly woman who absolutely put God before her own desires and deserves respect. I still have no earthly idea how y'all read the same Bible I did (which mentioned her a total of 9 times) and made the jump to she was sinless and was also born to a virgin... Can anyone help me out with at least understanding how that jump was even remotely plausible?

Where in the Bible does it say "Mary is not the mother of God"? Jesus is God and Mary is His Mother so Mary is the Mother of God. Motherhood is very personal. A mother gives birth to a person, not a body or a nature. Jesus is a divine Person, God, the Second Person of the Trinity. So Mary is the mother of God. If Mary is the Mother of God then the Catholic devotion to her as a means to praise Jesus makes all the sense in the world. The Holy Spirit through Elizabeth confirms both the fact that Mary is the Mother of God and the resulting honor due her: 'When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”' Luke 1: 41-45 Don't forget, by saying she is the Mother of God we are not saying she is older than God, nor more powerful than him, nor that she is God or that she is not a creature created by God. It may seem [Edit: that we are saying this], but only if we forget the staggering magnitude of the historical fact of the incarnation. And this is the point. The very Biblical, but very very very very very shocking Catholic doctrine that Mary is the Mother God underscores the very Biblical but very very very very very shocking doctrine of the incarnation of Christ. God became man. Let us stop, cover our mouths and just stand in awe of this stupendous, marvelous, breathtaking, dumfounding truth. If we actually could grasp the wonder of this we probably would not even remain standing. Praise be Jesus and His most pure Mother. I hope this helps. - Friar Roderic

Mr. Hahn said about 10:00 that glory is given to Mary and saints. Do Catholics know the words in, Isaiah 42:8 New International Version (NIV) 8 “I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.

Yet, in John 17:22, Jesus Christ our great and kind God and savior, tells His Apostles they shall share in, and be given His Glory, as does Romans 2:6-8, and Revelation3;9. Peace always in Jesus Christ, He whose Flesh is true food and blood true drink! You are in my prayers! God bless you!
