Malcom once modestly said there was nothing special about his simple open chord style of playing.But his style was AC/DC's secret weapon.
@axeman26387 жыл бұрын
What made it special was his tone and his rhythmic drive and precision, simple but hard to do well, and i can't think of another rhythm guitarist apart from maybe John Lennon who comes close.

I have a book about AC/DC and when Malcolm first started playing in bands their friends weren't sure if Angus could keep up with Malcolms blinding speed on guitar. It was pretty damn funny reading it but you get to see that Malcolm was very accomplished in his playing at an early age. All hail Mal!!!

Ever since I saw Malcolm hit out the starting chords of 'It's a Long Way' on that video on the back of the flat-bed truck in Melbourne, I could see how Malcolm works and how the ACDC sound works. Awesome power that has never diminished to this day.

For me it was always Johnny Ramone as my favorite Rhythm Guitarist.With his Barre Chords, Power Chords and Diwnstrokes, Also how he plays fast and rapidly. It's also amazing how a Punk Rock guitar player inspired a new wave of thrash metal guitarist.

Malcolm is my main inspiration and my favorite guitarist. It isnt speed, it isnt the skill, the how well malcolm could make you feel the simple open chords that acdc play.
@sd57757 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Trying to play his rhythm's the way he play's them have been the hardest to learn. To people who don't play or have a disciplined ear will not ever notice which is quite frustrating when your trying to explain how good he was. He makes it sound so simple until you try to emulate him.

I believe you cut most Rock Fans short. Just because most of us don't play instruments doesn't mean we are not educated. When I was a kid I read every word on the Albums and album sleeves. I have Hit Parades from the late sixties to the early eighties. I was rocking with AC/DC two years before they we're ever on the radio. Saying 95% of fan's wouldn't know who Malcolm Young is was like saying Deep Purple Fans don't know who Jon Lord was or Zeppelin Fans not knowing who John Paul Jones was. Give me a break. RIP Malcolm 11-18-2017.

I think to the casual fan that only know BIB and their singles, it might be worse than 85%. But the percentage is likely much lower among people who had this video suggested to them when they logged onto YT. No question that Malcolm simply doesn't get his due though. I really enjoy Angus's bluesy leads, but Malcolm's riffs are what propel their songs forward.

ah come on! Yes, it's sad, but the "greatest rhythm guitar player"? Seriously? Angus and Malcolm played the same exact part 95 percent of the time, and then Angus would drop out on rhythm when taking a solo. What is so revolutionary about that? AC/DC is a legendary band with its own signature instantly-recognizable sound but it's fairly primitive in its arrangements. In my opinion they never fully used 2 guitars the way other bands have done, like Def Leppard. No harmonized solos, no "one plays chords up there, while the other plays chords down there". Nothing wrong with that, but stop making them something they are not! Not every band needs to have a rich complex sound, sometimes meat and potatoes are all that is needed!!!
