My tip on colonising independents is ignore the advisor's suggestions to give any gifts or sign any treaties and hold off until your colony ship actually arrives at the planet in question. Then you drop the bribe and sign the trade agreement manually and you'll be at 100% colonisation chance for sure. The issue here is that the rep boost effect of gifts, and therefore colonisation chance, drops like a stone which is what caught Scott out here, especially at x8 speed.

I totally agree with getting Research Scanners and Planetary Exploration early. In fact last game I got them immediately after Skip Drive, the effect was to find virtually double the normal number of resources in my home system before venturing inter-stellar. Huge boost to economy plus early nearby systems immediately yielded double resources as well after I got Stable Warp Fields. In my estimation this economic boost pays for pirate protection fees three times over at least. Great to see this new series, Scott, I hope you can find the time and the patience to continue with it, your insights into this game are always a treasure trove.

The Dhayut are mortal enemies of the Ikkuro, that independent colony is part of the storyline. I've a playthrough with them, got the colony peacefully but after some time they revolt and kill every Ikkuro on planet. I was nor prepared to that..... 😞

There've been few changes lately. I did not follow them all, but few that you missed are: - spies seems a lot less effective at stealing techs. I was disabling them like you before, now it is ok to leave them - pirates seem to no longer spam in home system, which is great change. It was one of most annoying things to play on harsh and had to pay 5 pirates at the start of the game :D
@zigzera7757 Жыл бұрын
Honestly spy’s are still kinda a problem the biggest issue is how much tech you can steal from pirates which I think they should disable entirely let them do the rest of the spy mission but you shouldn’t be able to steal most of the first three techs tiers off pirates
@cyrusol Жыл бұрын
Spies have been nerfed very long ago. Kinda like 3-4 months post launch, something like that? They are not useless though. You can build up the espionage stat with simple missions and you can stack ambassadors at the faction you want to steal from (including pirates). That way you often get into 80-90% ranges, sometimes >90%. And in those ranges if the mission fails the likelihood that they would be captured is VERY low. The common bad outcome would be that the spy would be exposed and you suffer from a diplo reliationship drop.

Dear Gods, you really really need to pay a little attention to the notifications. You avoided the Storyline Pirate, Envelope icon, and the Treaty offer by the first pirates... LOL Not that the Harmonious Void are important in the long run... Still... Non-Agg happens MUCH faster now. Fair warning Harsh & Extreme are much tougher now. In an asteroid Belt or Field, now when a Constructor is assigned, it locks out all other asteroids in the Mine radius. BTW, so funny that you choose the Dhayut flag. Reputation Decay is a LOT faster, and the gain is slower Unlike in the past, a captured/repaired ship will no longer build fighters, unless you have the tech to do so then it builds your fighters. Espionage: Projects are more difficult, about a -20%. On Counterespionage only the spies never reveal their traits, but their traits are still there and active, you just don't know them. If you play Dhayut, your empire is based around spies. :) When the Ikkuro Story fully starts you can not miss it, LOL

Lol in my playthrough the Dhayut were marginalized fairly early on by the Boscaran AI, and their leader and generals are constantly being assassinated by all the other spies.

once I have al the basic building materials, I like to automate base building. That way, the AI takes care of building mining, research and tourist bases whenever a construction ship has npothing to do, prioritizing research bases. that saves a ton of notifications and keeps the private economy running. Still, it is worth peeking into the mining locations tab to check for lower priority luxury goods. every decade or so.
@scottsspace5562 Жыл бұрын
This is not a bad strategy at all (with, as you said, research bases set to receive the priority). There are rare edge cases make me personally want to micromanage this - e.g. the base can't be build because it is "out of range" - but I can manually set a constructor to go there and build it. And of course for new players I would say absolutely use this setting (though my PDF guide doesn't currently say that).

The dev said feel free to try but expect more bugs and not to report those bugs because they won't be as helpful. I did and got a lot of performance gain out of a very late game playthrough, but my stability wasn't as good. Still playable though! Give it a try!

I'm building a lot more (6 when WD research is complete) exploration ships. And I didn't notice any shortage of materials for freighers. I think you're being too careful about this. And you should ALWAYS design your own mining stations. You can double your mining speed from the start.
@scottsspace5562 Жыл бұрын
So it depends. One recent game I ran out of silicon. So no, always is incorrect. I didn’t check yet but once I have a source for all basic construction materials then I will build 8-10 expl ships. And if you read my guide you’ll see it’s part of my difficulty and play style. No max/min on stations (e.g. you can also put extra research on spaceports). It gets very easy very fast.
@Fenarid Жыл бұрын
@@scottsspace5562 Ok, i forget you like more challenging play style, but this information will probably be useful for less experienced DW2 players. BTW It is no longer possible to add a second research module to a spaceport (now it takes 60 space).

kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIHTaXqqmKdmZ7c thing is, if that didnt get fixed, that if it is too close to your homeplanet/fleetbase they will not warp but try to get there under warp, which is a lot slower, i think the game sometimes takes that into account when building automatically.

Just a comment about one of my beefs with this game: the event ticker. Scott missed the pirate protection treaty offers 'cos he ignores this event ticker most of the time. He does that 'cos it's INCREDIBLY ANNOYING interrupting you all the time, it's like your bloody phone beeping at you constantly with inane texts or w/e. IMHO there are too many event messages in this game for a single event ticker, it needs splitting up into categories. I would have a rack of icons for different categories of message with a big fat number on them indicating how many you haven't read yet. One of the icons would have the pirate demands, the diplo one say. IMHO the big fat number should discreetly flash a couple of times when a new event message is posted. In this case early game when the diplo icon flashed up you'd know immediately the pirates had arrived.
