In Rapid City, South Dakota the closest radio station to Z100 in New York City was the defunct HIT100 KGGG-FM (1985-1994). And had a similar morning show called 'Breakfast Flakes.' Z100 had 'Morning Zoo.' They may have been some influence with Z100 for the defunct 'Breakfast Flakes.'

1980s Scott Shannon sounds like a coherent professional. He makes sensible arguments and engages in thoughtful conversation. He lives comfortably with imperfect teeth. His face is shaped like that of a homo sapien. What happened? I don't understand why he puts on the phony voice in which he now broadcasts. I take it as a monumental insult to the listening audience's intelligence.

Radio personalities generally do not perform well on television. Radio is "Theater of the Mind." Radio people can not really do their schtick effectively outside of the perimeters of their broadcast studio and personality sidekick(s). The need all of the mechanics and tools to be effectively funny, like sound effects, jingles, commercials, etc. This is why Scott Shannon was not funny or entertaining and rather drab in this interview, because without his full round of ammunition, he merely is a boring talking head and this is why you rarely see Radio Personalities doing television interviews. In my opinion, and this is only my opinion. There is noting special about Scott Shannon as a radio personality, DJ or performer. What Scott Shannon does have is name recognition in NYC and that goes a long way. The longer you can manage to stay in NYC Market, the longer you tend to stay.

And PS: David Lee Roth has more name recognition than Shannon does... And you know what happened to the airshift that DLR had. It was banished, along with the entire Talk FM format, within 4 months of its debut. So as you can see, name recognition is not entirely where it is at. And if you are funny and interesting you can be funny and interesting solo. You don't need a whole contingency to back your "funny" up.:)

CBS was just bought out by Entercom. Maybe they will boot Shannon and bring back who used to host that morning time slot.
