On the 31st anniversary of his father’s death, Scott Van Pelt chooses to address the day rather than ignore it. He explains how he tends to be the friend that people confide in and on January 15, 2019 he’s decided to take his own advice and talk about the death of his father rather than pretend January 15th is a day like any other.

Yep - lost my mother on August 5, 2018. SVP's short diatribe was welcomed and appreciated. Fortunately for me - I have a wife that lost both of her parents years ago - she helped steady me during a very stressful time. Thanks for sharing SVP - I'll do my best to do the same. Peace!

Thanks for stepping up and having the courage to be vulnerable, while paying tribute to a man you love, respect, and miss so dearly. My parents passed on to a better life in 1993 and 2010, and I found myself sobbing at times during the holidays this year because I would love for them to see their grandkids and their little ones. God bless you, Scott, and thanks again for sharing - never selfish!

I have never searched anything regarding the loss of my father who passed in Dec. of last year. I really haven't had the strength to find better ways to cope with it. But Today I had to find a video on a scripted sports segment and SVPs "One Big Thing" was an example. This was the first video at the top of the list after searching for his segment. I needed this. Thank you.

He's one of the two or three left from the really good ESPN I'd say Scott, Stan and Neil, some left voluntarily because they were criminally underpaid or slapped in the face with offers, but essentially that's being fired It's crazy how Disney ESPN wolfenago a few hundred thousand with their best talent when they're like a multi-billion dollar company Now most of it is just metrosexuals and women yelling at the screen that don't know anything about sports
