When beginning my flute journey, this was absolutely huge for me. This became my bedrock foundation for which Scott helped me build my musical knowledge one stone at a time. Once I got to the point I started to compose my own songs, or even to just listen to a known song and transcribe it onto paper, this TAB system simply made it possible. There is no better way to get notes quickly onto paper!

best video ever on learning the NAF.

As a beginner the number tab was a huge help in learning to read music for the NAF. It quickly allows you to determine what note to play. Using it in conjunction with the Nakai tablature I found I could quickly determine the note to be played and how it is to be played. My execution wasn't delayed working out the finger position as it would be using the Nakai tablature alone.

So glad I learned this from your book when I first started playing. It’s been absolutely indispensable! Makes playing and writing down song ideas a breeze. Thank you!

Great video Scott. Hopefully, this gets out to the NAF community and replaces the antiquated system of fingering diagrams. [Note to all NAF players - I know this system works as it helped me learn the notes (fingerings) in a week or so as opposed to tearing my hair out with the old diagram system. Since learning Scott's Number TAB system, playing/writing NAF music has been much more enjoyable.] --- Phil

This is great! As many of us guitar players rely on chord shapes and the number system, this method instantly makes the transition to NAF much easier 😀

Wow! thanks 4 sharing... this vid' was an epiphany (for me anywayz) and helped immensely! as a beginner i could never understand y following hieroglyphic looking, tablature symbols was sooooo hard? well, maybe not hard... but certainly cumbersome. i mean, our beloved NAF scale has only 5 or 6 notes already!!! after watching this i'm jotting down my ideas in a fraction of the time and enjoying it more... life is good :)

Whether you have a music background or not, Scott's number system for NAF or Pueblo/Anasazi makes the notation of your songs so quick and easy. It is also helpful to developing a song.

Seems confusing at first, but does make sense. Going to try and learn this system because the xo system is really frustrating to try and do on a song I like...thanks Scott...

Is there a follow up video to this yet concerning the missing notes/fingerings?

Not yet. I plan to do one when I have free time. However, this information can be found in both my Complete NAF Guide books cedarmesa.com/books/
