As a UC Davis alumnus and former student athlete, I can’t believe I’m seeing my school featured in one of your video. As an Indiana University alumnus, this season is almost too good for words. 😁 Personally, I see Big Sky FCS football as an ideal fit for UC Davis’ football program. FBS is a difficult jump in the western states. Football exists at UC Davis because it has been successful for the past 50 years. I’m certain football would have long since disappeared from UC Davis had it prematurely grown into an expensive 1A or FBS door mat. I would rather see (and support) a perennial FCS playoff contender and possible championship contender at FCS than see a struggling under-resourced FBS program playing to an expanded half-empty stadium. My fear is that FBS MWC football would be the beginning of the end of football at UC Davis. I know my school, I know that region, and this is what my knowledge and intuition tells me.

UC Davis has not announced a move to FBS football for several reasons: At the time, they were competing in the FCS playoffs, and transitioning to the FBS would disqualify them from both current and future FCS playoff participation. The university has committed to not using state funds or student fees to finance the transition, so they need to finalize financial preparations before making the move. So their counting on increased ticket sales, media rights, increased sponsor and donor revenues. There are plans to expand the football stadium, which may be completed beforehand. From an academic perspective, UC Davis is renowned as an agricultural school. Joining the Mountain West (MW) Conference would extend the university’s reach beyond California and the Pacific Rim, potentially opening new opportunities for student recruitment in regions like Wyoming, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico.

Once UC Davis tries to be good at football, UC Regents will then do their best to destroy it's growth. Look at what's going on to UC Davis' brothers UCLA and Cal. They get big endowments but would not spend so much in athletics especially football.
@paperdoАй бұрын
It's especially stupid because there's no reason why football, and basketball needs to be a financial drain. Washingtons football program brings money into the university every year. The UC regents do everything possible to keep their programs from being competitive, then stupidly say "see, athletics are a drain". UW had the same problem in the early 2000s . There was no enthusiasm for the football program because the university leadership was not invested. The program wasn't making money at this point. Eventually, the leadership changed, and was invested in football. Magically everything changed.
@N1oreo1Ай бұрын
👀 Never thought of that. My friend coaches track at UCSD. Says they’d never try for anything more than basketball and that was a stretch. Regents have no interest in athletics. Just being the most prestigious academic schools in the world. Which is cool but man, they can be so much more.
@terryfox934429 күн бұрын
I'm surprised that Davis isn't taking their football program to the MWC immediately In 2026, the new CFP bonus per FBS school goes into effect. I fear that Sankey will try to keep new teams from getting a share. I would move up as soon as possible.
@ChrisRVegasАй бұрын
The stadium's capacity is not quite large enough yet to compete in football with the MWC. Also, UCDavis is currently in the FCS playoffs and a conference change would cut them out of those playoffs so they would be better to wait for the team to get as far as they can in that bracket before making an announcement regarding a conference change for their football team.

If FCS schools want to compete they need to freeze research grants and professor salaries and pump more $ into player salaries like all the top programs

Grand Canyon’s “for-profit” status is not really for-profit. The IRS and State of Arizona recognizes GCU as non-profit. However, someone at the Dept. of Education has a hard-on for fucking over GCU by insisting that they’re not non-profit. A recent appeals court ruling says the DOEd applied the wrong standard when applying the for profit label.
