There's a difference between Sam Houston and Kennesaw. Sam Houston had a really good defense last year. Sure their record wasn't great. But all they needed was a QB to run the offense. Insert Hunter Watson and they're in the running to still potentially host the conference championship game. Keeler is also running the same system he's always ran. So it's easier to put faith in him. Meanwhile Bohannon has had to scrap everything he knows. And it's been clear he can't coach anything else.

Bo could recruit kids that the other colleges ignored who would "fit" the program. And when you have an exceptionally well coached triple option, it is really difficult to beat. Look at Georgia Tech back in the day, or GA Southern, Navy, Army, etc. The system is a talent-equalizer when run to perfection. The poor new coach doesn't have the recruiting connections, is sitting on a failing program, and it going to get gutted by the portal. These KSU transfers aren't going to Alabama, Georgia, or Auburn, but you better believe a few transfers will end up playing at places like Northern Illinois, Eastern Carolina, or Florida Atlantic. Trying to convince any high schooler that going to KSU is worthwhile is a very tough sell.
@marcusrudolph596129 күн бұрын
The problem with that is the option is just a stop gap for short term success to build a program you need a real passing game and offense to persuade recruits to come
@TheSonicseanАй бұрын
I think another reason they, and a bunch of other FCS schools are making the jump is because now a team needs to beat 6 FBS teams to become bowl eligible, so a non-conference game against KSU is more attractive than one against an FCS school for a team that might be on the bubble in terms of bowl eligibility.

The other teams were coming from better fcs conferences. Going from CAA, big sky, or mvc to conf USA really is not a giant jump. The big south was weak. Also, JMU already had a big nice stadium and facility. Delaware is moving up this upcoming season, curious how they do, bjg state school with good infrastructure. I think they will transition smoother than this. Essentially, big south is more of an fcs group of 5 conference, and it would have been considered a step up for them to go to the CAA, they almost jumped TWO levels of play in one move.

After success in the 70s against mostly Patriot, Ivy and Yankee conference foes along with some competitive games against traditional powers, Rutgers made the move to play at the top level. This move was made with admin approval, but with no monetary support. Long story short, here we are 40 some odd years later and Rutgers still cannot match the financial support that it's peers enjoy. The saving grace is the NY tv market that the old big east and the current B1G covet. Oh and Rutgers fired their successful football coach after their first year with a top level schedule. This video is 9 minutes and 37 seconds of of non-coherent rambling. Brian Bohannon is the WORST thing to happen to Kennesaw State. Who the hell did we win in the FCS? You're talking about us winning teams with 500 students total. 500! Our 3rd and 4th year was an entire season of schools with 2,000 students. That is supposed to be Bohannons legacy? We are supposed to build a statue for him because he beat tiny schools in FCS? Any competition Bohannon ever faced, he lost. The last six seasons have been a joke, I used to be proud of us, we had a few years to develop, we should have made the jump to FBS 7 years ago, and built a stadium by now, but our athletic department isnt going to invest in Bohannon's losing program. Plain and simple. The first thing I did when I heard he was fired, is I called the AD to thank him. You speak about the triple offense like its something great? Hows Georgia Tech doing? Glad we recruited Bohannon to show us the glorious Georgia Tech offence. What a joke. Good riddance. Next year I start donating to the program again. Bye Brian!

First off that is too many teams in Georgia that's at the FBS level and the most importantly that is way too many in one City Georgia Tech can barely build itself back Georgia State ain't going to stand a chance and what you think Kennesaw State going to do

Considering Georgia has around 10 million people 5 FBS programs is fine. Just to put that in perspective Alabama has about half as many people as Georgia, and has 6 FBS programs. Ohio, which is closer in population to Georgia has 8. Also Kennesaw State is way out in the suburbs, most people would not consider it “Atlanta.”

@@papajohncena2516 That would kinda be like saying the University of West Georgia in Carrollton is part of "Metro Atlanta" even though they're in Carroll County, which may technically be part of the Atlanta media market, but is no more part of Metro Atlanta than, say, Athens. West Georgia, meanwhile, is transitioning from D2 to FCS.

@@CreightonRabs literally. People think that the entire north half of georgia is atlanta.

@@tombo6245 I always thought the running joke in Georgia was that anywhere in the state was two hours away from Atlanta.
