I don't get why some companies aren't truckers friendly. Why in the hell don't have enough room in their yard?! I'm not an OTR driver just a Yard goat driver but still. I know how backing up in tight spaces is. 2 thumbs up for all of you OTR truckers out there delivering and have to deal with all this and traffic too.👍👍

It was nice to see the oversized employee parking lot (not) even another 5 or 6 feet of space on the dock side would make a big difference. The Engineer that designed the dock area must of been using the physics of a shunt truck. Nice to see the city and long haul Drivers helping each other.

I'm still surprised that some company hasn't come out with some type of quick-setup back-up camera mounted to the very top of the door to the trailer itself...then have a good size monitor setup on the dashboard inside the rig! Great job BTW!
@thomasdaniels6824
@thomasdaniels6824 5 жыл бұрын
Lol, dude, camera monitors in the cab of the tractor have been around for atleast 10 years. Back in 2008 Coca Cola was in the middle of a fleet change where they got rid of alot of there side load trucks and started a system called OFS. We got new single axle 7 speed freightliners with 36 foot lift gate trailers. Every tractor had a monitor and every liftgate 36ftr had a rear mounted camera. Next time you see a coca cola driver delivering to a convenience store, take a look for the camera. The trailers themselves came from Canada and i believe they were designed by fruehaffen (however thats spelled.)

Namely and mainly, most bonehead would figure out how to hack the in-cab and watch porn at 62 mph. Bet. Besides, you can have em if ya want, but, i find backing in with a rear facing camera mess' with the whole right to go left paradoxymoron. Just sayin.

@@williamhendrix3253 im sure that could or would be the case, but still. Two mirrors, monitor, plus all your peripheral at once may be overwhelming to or for some. Myself, its been years( devades) since ive been in an inside dock. Many a year and many a warehouse ive been to, but since hauling livestock, ive only been disrespected by 1 cow. All those grocery warehouse, union docks , ignorant receivers, been crapped on by most. From the wanna be Barney Feif to the 3rd partyy unload and being held for ransom ( lumper fee), yall can have my share of that. My freight just has to walk on, ride, walk off. No hidden damage or STC here. Dead cow is easy to spot and even harder to hide. (Insert humor here) . 32 years total on the road, last 5 were livestock, i wish i had met my current employer thirty years ago. Bull Hauling is as close to trucking as it was. The Brotherhood still exist, ya just gotta have the guts and enough lights. By the way and or also, lots o chutes in the dark. It happens.

When it comes to backing flatbed into loading docks, backing into dark holes with concrete on both sides leaving 1 inch gap on both sides is a common thing. That loading dock looks pretty easy to get into, never delt with hauling 53 foot reefers though.
@asleepcloud
@asleepcloud Жыл бұрын
When I was driving 5 tonne there was this same kind of dock. Concrete walls on both sides, very dark and you had to back in off of a busy street. It wasn't too bad in my truck but I felt for all the tractor trailers that had to back in there. You'd be holding up traffic thats backed up for blocks and there was no way to open the trailer doors off the street

Just a friendly tip in really tight loss such as this one with minimal room to crank pull way past the hole and try to be centered in the lot than give a very slight angle so that by the time you are in the slot your tandems are past the noise of the next trailer or tractor. It takes practice and patience but in 10 years this is the simplest method I have found that works consistently for your particular scenario.

Imagine instead of having two backing spots available, you have only one to back into, that makes things even more interesting when a slightest mistake can ruin your day. Yep...that's some joy of trucking we deal time to time. Personally, I think it makes whole lot more sense if they'd ask to drop trailer and park away from it like at Walmart DC. BTW, this place reminds me of a business I delivered in Denver,CO a while back. They should add light fixtures on docks to ease backing.

I hated backing into buildings ( not like swift ) until mirror in the shade who knows what's going on back there! Also the only place ever wrecked a door on a trailer 🤬 Was no fault for me. After I walked outside somebody moved a big garbage bin . If 2 inches to left all would have been good. Door hit can can hit wall and bye bye door . The garbage can ended up in same spot that I had walked by. Just a tiny bit of blue paint on door saved my ass and company took full blame!!!

I had walked out the door right beside the trailer did some paper work the drive out and crunch. Had trouble trying to figure it out while waiting for mechanic to cut the door off. What had happened was after I walked out side someone moved a garbage in wheels over to clean something got distracted and left bin beside trailer. Door hit bin then bin hit inside of building and bye bye door ! Was just a tiny bit of blue paint on trailer door then figured it out ! Thankfully the company took the blame and paid the cost of damages !

We are all on the same team out there, driver vs all those who try and f... the driver over or blame the driver. If you see a fellow driver just having a rough go at it just put the f"n camera down and help them out for a couple minutes. it will come back to you some day for helping. great to see someone give you a spot on the back up if you asked for it or not. I have to laugh at this comment. I've been in combat and backed into docks like this. Not comparable. I'd just hate to have to perform a backup like this with someone shooting at me. You might want get out and check for IEDs. See any indicators like lamp cord anyone. Backing like this can be quite simple with practice. It gets much harder with distractions like other vehicles trying to drive around you as you are backing. I always have to empty my bladder if needed before a backing maneuver.

It's no different this side of the pond either, Here in the UK we have some ludicrous supermarket RDC (regional delivery centres) with a hair width between bays and stacks of pallets and skips (dumpsters) usually in the areas you need to wind off the lock position your tractor unit etc , make a complaint and you are met with "well others drivers manage" poor design and bad house keeping leads to frayed tempers and damage but these idiots don't see it like that

First one is a dock, off a main arterial designed in the 60's for 38 footers with roll up doors. Now we have are the 53 with flapa, which makes doors 10 inches away form trailer...gotta have 1 trailer per 2 doors as it will not make it across the pillar with another one there. The other is at an angle, kinda like what you did in the video, but have about 10inches of clearance on each side. Just glad lines are painted passed the doors so easy to align trailer, but man what a pain. Good job backing this its nice to see helping a fellow driver.

How do trailers not have rear cams? Insane.
@richardtamminga3711

Because drivers should know the size of what they take along for the ride. You can get your trailer in almost every spot if you have any idea of spaces. Been watching a few more of this online idiot drivers. If you're not sure,step out and check. This guy has so much space, dont know what he was wondering about 🤣

Rear cameras on trailers absolutely suck. Better to know the length of your vehicle and how much space you have to work with. I only pull tankers, so I don’t have to ally dock as much. Sometimes times you may need to do this maneuver. They also have lag because of the wireless connection. One guy broke the monitor in the cab because it was blocking part of our view over the passenger side of the hood about a year ago. We just took it out completely because it was useless. I fuel large locomotives for CSXT and Norfolk Southern. We back right up to the engines. I prefer to get out and look if I need to. Even with a camera you still need to get out and look.

scottied67, while I have never driven truck, I've backed a lot of trailers, and watching your video was very enjoyable. That would scare the bejesus out of me, and you made it look so easy. Nice job sir.

it scared me at first too, after doing it enough times I got pretty good at it but still have to keep the guard up, we are only as good as our last accident.

Well first thing you do is get out and walk into dark hole and make sure nothing in the way. Then every thing you really need to see is in the light. Then open doors and back in. You can watch trucks beside you to judge how far in to back. BUT this is a skinny hole so you have to watch real close backing in. Matter of fact it helps to slide trailers all the way back to do away with tail swing on trailer.

When they built that place it was probably for 45 or 48 ' at the most & they didn't have these long ass tractors then.

I have to agree with Darren the other drivers will complain a lot more if you hit their trucks because you didn't want to waste their time by being a little more cautious and take some extra time making sure you straight

Isnt thay the Tempe Az safeway? Sometimes it can be a nightmare there. What I do and what is recommended to do is park and check in and you will be served b4 all those in line. I made that in one pull up. But I have seen others struggle and takin out their front bumpers in that curve. You were lucky not to have a truck next to you when backing in.

We'll with swift just wrap A towel around you're eyes, plug ears, spin around for about five minutes and as quickly as you can jump into the truck stuck it in gear, and stomp on throttle and hang on for the ride. That's the Swift way. But you Can be inventive if you wish...Ahh the fun and excitement one can have on the open road.....total bliss
