An explanation for the high review scores for third party batteries that makes sense to me (I did not come up with this on my own) is that reviews are made soon after a purchase while the batteries still perform at a decent level. Except for the occasional dud, as you encountered, most batteries seem fine, at least initially and that's how people review them. My strategy has been to go for the better known third party brands that have a brand reputation they presumably want to maintain. I also agree with your comment to go to the forums for reviews. I think the relatively low numbers of users on some niche forums, and contributors with good reputations, makes scam reviews harder to effectively pull off. I tend to use my third party batteries as backups -- I rarely exhaust a fully charged battery. As a result of that usage pattern, my third party batteries don't get a lot of use and last for years. A review from someone like me would be useless to a heavy user who depended on battery life.

As you're in France, which is a relatively easy hop to the UK, would you consider coming over for a visit in the early summer to join a meet up weekend, with other youtubers like big clive ,Mike's electric stuff and a few others? I'm also hoping to organise a US meet up in the late summer

I noticed that the industry batteries are a lot better and cheaper than the consumer batteries (in specifications). This makes me think that the consumer batteries all have some kind of planned obsolescence.

Sorry to hear you were duped Scottie. Clearly Amazon are not vetting reviews properly, and they can well afford to, or they just don't care. Thanks for the heads up.

Amazon is a garbage company for lazy stupid people. You get what you pay for. And deserve.

Something not as bad happened to me with kingma batteries. Bought two extra batteries for my camera. They worked fine for a couple of years then both died. The original is still going strong after 8 years now. I always rotated the 3 batteries and I am still surprised the original works. I also have a Nikon that's 14 years now and the original battery works fine.

I have a 1998 I think (late 1990s) 96-7-8 ish video TAPE not Digital, home movies type camera. It's original Nickel Cadmium rechargeable battery is STILL KICKING. The secondary "Energizer" brand extra capacity Nicad pack from 2000 is doing only slightly better. Original factory items are definitely better.

Yup... Welcome to the world of Amazon reviews and sub-par products. UGH... It's BS that this company was/Is doing this. Too many brands and people are willing to just buy items and never leave negative reviews. Thanks for the video.

5:58 You forgot cheap, you bought them because they were cheap and you get what you pay for. Great video though overall, thank you.

Now apply this to the $40+ thousand you pay for your replacement electric vehicle battery pack. They do..not...last 15 and 20 years unless it only going 5km per week. I noticed this with Nicad cells 30+ years ago. Actually the factory making the replacement aftermarket cells was in France. They were okay, none ever died, they just didn't hold up on current draw test "quite as long" as good original USA manufacturers cells (GE). Once the Chinese took over and the French products weren't available anymore it was an even bigger step. Lower capacity and never made it to "1000". Some companies use poorly cleaned recycled materials. The "contamination" results in faster drop off. What sucks is the new generation packs I read here a cycle counter inside which cuts off charging once it's reached the cut off number Toner cartridges have the same thing. Some stop before the actual powder runs out.

I'm wondering if the off brands have recycled/re-used non reset timers ? Just sticking them in pulled out of dead oe battery and hoping it has 700 uses left and it only has "50". ?? Just a thought.

I bought a so called.. Duracell battery for my laptop.. instead of the Acer battery because it was claimed to be higher power at about the same price... I won't be buying from them again! My Nikon Coolpix L100 (made before 2012) uses AA batteries, I did look at other camera's since but they have special batteries which I decided was not the way to go, which also means I can have loads of reserve batteries that also fit my H1 and DR05 audio recorders etc.. and as they deteriorate are used in torches etc. The L100 still works fine but I wanted a 1080 video camera.. I bought a Sony 405 video camera, which is perfect for me.. (I am going to fit a mic socket one day, which is the only negative.. I can't find a camera that does anything better even one's that are several times the price, that I can't afford anyway) ... It does have its own battery but I decided technology has moved on and only buy Sony batteries from the Sony shop.. price isn't wild.. to reduce the chance of getting scammed.. I can have an external power supply but the battery lasts about 2 1/4 hours which is the same as the card can store.. I also have a second battery which fits in the camera. It's also not just batteries like you bought it is also power banks that are not as advertised. I'm looking at buying a power bank box that takes 18650s and a separate charger.. A company called Fogstar in the UK does them.. also a torch.. Looks like the 18650 is my AA replacement option.. ... with the thought of modifying any AA torches etc. Have you ever done a video about SD and micro SD cards and the specs and also salvaging data from them? Happy New Year 😻

If you still have the old battery I would suggest opening it up and replacing the bad cells with a little lipo or whatever you can find that size. As long as the BMS is still good why not let the camera think you are using an OEM battery. $70 for a 1500mah battery is out of the question. Are you sure the cells in the crappy new battery are dead? Maybe you tripped the protection board if it has one that is. A 900mah cell is not going to have the output capability of a larger cell. So you're recording in HD like always but that battery cannot maintain the sustained output and it probably over heated or over discharged itself and now it's playing dead. That just sucks no matter what. Got any old old cell phones laying around with tiny little batteries like that? Even 1500mah seems real small to be honest...900 though. Gawd.

Seems like one of the biggest problems these days is having to do your own Quality Assurance. Which brings us to the next biggest problem after buying the extended warranty ..are they still in business ? 😆

Probably made in China as so many things on amazon are. I read reviews on Amazon & the moment I see Frequently returned item, I look at a different product. But I also like to research a product thru reviews elsewhere before even going to A. Sorry that happened to you Scottie, thx for the warning. Happy New Year to you and your wife!

Gosh, you might be the last person on earth to hear that Amazon ratings are rigged to hell. You can't trust them at all. I had a similar situation several years ago when buying Sony NP-F and a popular Canon battery pack for POV cameras. With the NP-F, I found that there were some good aftermarket brands, including Anton/Bauer, that were as good as the OEM Sony ones. But for the consumer grade Canon packs, they were all junk. Even the ones that came with the (Blackmagic Design) cameras had less capacity than the real Canon ones. Same thing with aftermarket chargers, none of them could charge as fast as the real brand name ones. When time is money, it's false economy to "save money" on fakes.

Eight years worth on those other batteries was pretty good. Sorry you got zapped in the purchase. Cheaper is usually.....CHEAP! 🙄. Best advice you have was to go forums of sites that deal with your purchase interest and see what people say there before you buy.

I never buy stuff from independent resellers if I need a quality product. You have no idea who they are or what country they are in. Always look at the "Sold By" section on the right side of the page.
