My personal guess, I believe that God gives him the strength to sing it so that others in the same situation know that they're not alone.

Jerri, I believe you are right. Only Heavenly Father can give him the strength to sing this song. I watched this video over and over. Every time I start tearing up right before he starts to sing. Personally, I could feel his pain by watching his body language. He performs this song, I believe, to help other parents out there who’ve had to bury their child. No parent should ever have to bury their own child. I can’t even begin to imagine his pain.

Another great song is by country singer Cole Swindell. You should be here. The official music video. His number one fan was his dad. He died just before Cole signed his first record deal. Cole wrote the song, they filmed the video, the end of which was at the Cemetery. It was the first time he'd been to the Cemetery since his dad passed. For me this one is gut wrenching. The first time I heard the song was at 0920 23 February 2016. I had just left the hospital for the first time in a week, my dad had passed after a 16 year battle with cancer. I was exhausted, and ready to go. Got in my car and this song came on, it took another half hour before I could drive. Now the song reminds me of the times he was there, and still is.

I've listened to this song so many times and it still gets me teary eyed. That was the first time he performed it, and after he said it was going to be the only time. But both fans and other artists started tell him how much the song meant to them, and how much it helped with their personal grief. I lost my cousin 4 1/2 years ago to a disease a lot of people haven't even heard of, Cystic Fibrosis. She was 23, an Army wife, my best friend, and she was 7 days shy of the 2 year anniversary of her double lung transplant. Her husband, is an Army Airborne Ranger but was on compassionate reassignment so he could be home as her health declined leading up to her transplant. Prior to that he was stated in Hawaii so without being reassigned to the Army base here there is no way he could have made it home prior to her going into surgery. All of that back story to say that the Army was incredible to him and to our family during that time. There were 4-5 higher ups of his that came to visit her every time she was in the hospital, and they (plus a few more) came to her service in their dress blues. Still gives me chills. I always lovingly say that he and his brother belong to us, whether they like it or not. :) As always, great video and sending virtual hugs from Oklahoma!

So you have the clarity to the back story behind this song, Craig Morgan had a 19-year-old son. While his son was home on break from college, he went tubing and drowned. Craig wrote this song just to try and process the loss and you see the final product here. What is more interesting is he has apologized to his fans in advance he doesn't do this song at all his shows as he said it takes every ounce of energy to get through the song, therefore you're lucky to hear it live. An example of this was his appearance on the Kelly Clarkson show. He did the song (watch him closely at the end-you can see/feel his pain is overwhelming), he finished the song, and after walking off set reportedly had a complete breakdown. You can see it coming on in his performance. God bless him and all your other commenters for their losses. But I really liked his own explanation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/janKaXd-lMuMetE&ab_channel=DelDunbar Kelly Clarkson Show performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3yZm6GCrbqprqM&ab_channel=CopyCat

Losing a child creates an unimaginable void by those who haven't experienced that kind of loss. I can't stop and think about it or it tears me apart. I was always proud of my son and did all that I could to raise him and be there for him. There were times we were inseparable. Then something changed. I don't know why or when, but it did. That's when my son turned away from me and refused to speak to me. No matter how hard it was or what was happening, I always tried to keep in touch with him. Then silence unlike any I had known before. Nothing. Circumstances keeps us an ocean apart now. He is in the USA and I am in Europe. No matter how much time goes by, I have never stopped loving him and never will. My heart aches to hear the pain in Craig's voice for the loss of his son. My heart aches for the return of my own. Some days it's hard to imagine which is worse but I keep believing and praying for us to be together once again. But The DonFather is right....no parent should ever have to bury a child.

I'm so very sorry for both of your heartbreaking losses, to lose a mom is devastating - I know this. But the loss of a precious child must be even more so. I pray that you will find peace, along with the strength you have already had to find. May God bless you with the certainty that you will see them both again...

Every time I hear this song by Craig especially if I see a live version the hair stands up on my head my arms my legs I get goosebumps Thank God I've never had to bury my son. But my son buried his first born son and the devastation that comes from that and blessed the Lord I was there for my son to help him and grieve with him We cried together as a family and prayed together as a family. Last Craig Morgan beautiful song tremendous tremendous sentiment and lyrics.

Thank you for such a beautiful, heartfelt, authentic and understanding reaction. You got it, you just got everything about it, including the struggle with depression and excuses to stay isolated while he learned to deal with his emotions ... Thanks for doing some pre-work so you understood where the song, lyrics and performance were coming from. Great reaction. New subscriber here. ❤

This makes me want to get up and go and hug my children every time I see this. This one of the hardest songs to hear I've ever experienced.
