Scottish Sword Dance

Every year in November, First Presbyterian Church in Fargo, ND holds their Kirkin' o' the Tartans event with Scottish music, dancing and clothing. This young lady and her fellow dancers come from the Twin Cities, Minnesota each year to perform Scottish national dances and traditional military dances (originally danced only by men/soldiers) with live bagpipes. This video shows a Scottish Highland sword dance which was performed on the night before a battle. If a dancer accidentally touched a sword while dancing, it was considered bad luck for how they would do in battle the next day.

When I was at cadet camp getting my levels for the snare, I had to learn the fling dance and the Highland sword dance. However, I am such a drummer that I didn't pay much attention until we had to do our tests at the end of camp in order to get my levels. It was fun but so difficult to learn the steps.

I play the smallpipes. I was kidnapped by Grand Forks district court last year when I went there to work on a masonry crew for the season. They lied about me and put a false story on Fargo and Grand forks news cast with my picture. Humiliating. They put me in solitary for 6 months - starving! I never got to speak to an attorney or tell my story to anyone. They gave me an extravigant bond. I was never given a bond hearing. I quit talking and became very soft spoken. They didn't give me A toothbrush for almost 3 months. I lost teeth and being skinny and malnourished. I got 1 letter that the co threw away when I showered. I had no books, no paper, letters, pencil, phone, tv, money, visitors. I live in CA but I graduated HS in GF. I had been hearing voices in my deaf ear. Some girl had been saying she loved me and I thought Ineeded to be with her She told me she was trapped in my old house. I went there and kicked open a door hoping that I would find her there. I was misled. Police slammed my head against the concrete bloody. I wasn't even fighting him. I needed help and all these people could do was abuse me. They charged me with felony resisting arrest and felony burglary. I'm currently on felony probation for another year- wrogfully convicted. They are the filthiest stinking ignorant corrupt town. They are cursed and damned. They're like children. The judge told me he would send me to prison at my sentencing. North Dakota keeps a shame so crude and they stink like the shame that their privates make of themselves for living life like animals and lower functioning creatures that are so dumb that you can smell the hormones and the bo they make. Dumb, stinking, cursed scumbags. They are the stupidest. My name is Cameron Stewart.

I don't know this dance but it looked like a great performance. It's just a shame how disrespectful the crowd is, looking completely disinterested and at times not evening focusing their attention on her.

It's possible that there were more dancers that they were looking at as well. Usually there's multiple of them, it's just that the camera was probably focused on this one dancer. If not, well... It's easy to get distracted if you're not interested in the dance. They probably have seen so many of them that this one is just the same.

Dancer of 12 years here, the hilts are sometimes plastic but the blades are always metal. From my judgment here my guess would be the entire sword is metal but the blade has just been painted red :)

modern sword’s blades are still metal but hilts are plastic they are also blunt), it’s merely a safety precaution because if u went over a metal hilt that’s a broken ankle or atleast a sprain/sprain (u could still hurt ur ankles regardless of whether the hilts are plastic or not) hope this helps☺️
