Saw this a whole bunch of times. Ended up going to Scotland in 1994. Had a wonderful time.

Came here as I was reminded of this ad when I heard its co creator Simon Scott had died this week, tragically. He was a great copywriter at an Agency called The Union in Edinburgh. I've never seen a travel advert that so redolently sums up the locations offering. Absolutely beautiful with a magnificent track that tugs at the heart strings. Rest in peace Scotty, you were a great writer and a fine man.

Been trying to find this for years! I was only about twelve when it was aired, but something just stuck in my mind. After years of searching I finally pieced it together by googling what I could remember of the song, together with the lyrics from the poem ‘Celtic Cross’ by Norman MacCaig at the end. Another win for KZbin!

As a filmmaker for the past 20 years, this is by far the best advert i have ever seen. In every way. The band; the Scilencers, The song; (known as) 'will you go lasse' , 'Purple Heather' and 'wild mountain thyme'. I had a VHS recording of Sharpe with this advert in the middle. I still have the VHS copy in case i couldn't find this ever again. THANKYOU KZbin for finally getting rid of my last VHS tape. Boy this ad is good.....

Fully Agree, I studied Advertising for a year at college and you can see that the firm hired to do this had a tough brief, but delivered...lot of messages going on here..

I think it was the Silencers, Scottish band, who were especially commissioned to do the song for the ad. Song is Wild Mountain Thyme - and old Scottish/Irish folk song.

It was indeed: they didn't like the idea at all because it was a folk song, but it became their greatest hit. Thanks Bruce Findlay for helping them make the right decision!

Fairlyreel and toddsweeney same! Still have the tape and note attached giving the time for the ad. I cannot believe this has not become a legend of TV advertising in the manner of Harry the Spider. A glass of Dallas Dhu for the uploader.

My son was in this fantastic advertisement and the Agency gave us a video of the day in Glencoe. This is one of my most treasured possessions but for some reason it is almost blank now. Does anyone know if a copy of the video I was given is accessible anywhere? Thank you.

First time I went to Scotland via the A74, as I passed the "Welcome to Scotland" sign, greeted with a speed camera van on the first bridge. Great welcome, total pricks.
