@@Danwilliams11111 yes I use it as my main car now. It has excellent road manners at high speed . I usually stick around 70 ish on motorways . My only criticism is its not quick at mid range for overtaking . Its nippy in town and keeps up with the big boys on motorways . Mine is only the 3 cyl 1.00 L . That said on a run I get 65 mpg at 70 mph . Sit at 85 mph and that drops to 52 mpg. Its all about compromise I guess . But its a great all rounder and very cheep to insure ,tax and service.

1. Juddering at start is happening on mine. I just press the accelerator peddle a bit more 2. The rattle due to the back seats caused me to go insane, until I found out what the noise was 3. When I park my car in the garage, I leave it in-gear and put the handbrake down, so the brakes don’t stick if I drive it for a few days 4. Not sure if I am imagining it, but when I have my headlights on, when I turn a corner, the headlights go brighter 5. I do have problems sticking mine into reverse. Just need to press/depress the clutch a few times 6. Road noise. I just either turn on the fan or turn the radio volume up to drown out the noise 7. Would love to have a 6th gear on motorways 8. Issues I’ve had…grabby brakes (as mentioned) which you get used to how to use pretty quick…reverse gear not going in when cold start (no crunch) takes couple of goes or extended time clutch depress and fuel tank requires slow fill and sometimes jaunty angle to avoid keep cutting out at pump…no clutch issues or anything else and so far very reliable…agree surprisingly fun to drive, helped by 1.2 engine which also makes motorway journeys ok…nice video btw 🙂

I have an 11 plate i10. These wear clutches quickly and the clutch pedal can collapse as the metal is quite thin. This causes the clutch cable to move around causing gear change issues crunching etc. Just had pedal replaced as well as a new clutch cost £1100. 3rd clutch at 66k miles due to the pedal being the culprit check the pedal for lateral movement. I should also say its been a great little car.

Same here, clutches on last 3 i10 models, I don't ride the clutch either. That pedal box is a disaster, terrible design. Also, timing chains go on these. God little car but the clutch and timing chain are expensive jobs that are not worth doing after 60K miles.

Serviced only at bare minimum and has been dead reliable and probably the cheapest car you can possibly own. Tax in Sweden is 25€, consumes around 5l/100km and parts are dirt cheap. 150000km and the only things that have been done are brakes, cam belt service, a rusted out oil pan and drive belts.

I "inherited" my mums one when she got too old to safely drive (2014 Mk2)...I'd never liked the gearbox on it and it finally got to the point you couldn't change gear on it. Local garage had a bodge attempt at steeping the selector assembly it in a bucket of anti-seize/penetrating oil which worked for 3 weeks (still the gearshift never self centred), and I knew the gearshift and cables were ok so I bought a new selector assembly from Hyundai Dundee ("We've sold loads of these" the guy on the phone told me) and fitted it myself but this is a VERY common issue....The difference was unbelievable....Hyundai Forums has a post on it telling you how to do it and if you can do your own brakes and discs you will be able to do this....talking of brakes, the rear calipers are of the "E-brake" variety and I've got 2 new ones turning up today as the ratcheted handbrake is playing up- brakes been binding and the handbrake not holding. I replaced the discs and pads but winding the piston back in on the OSR was a PIG to do so kinda knew this was inevitable...but a good wee car, reliable, economical and takes roof bars too which is a bonus.....

Thanks. I have a 2016 premium blue drive i10. Brilliant car on the whole with around 74 miles on the highway on 60 speed. However, it does have a few nagging issues, but I have worked around them because, its a very economical reliable cheap car to service and live with. Tax £20, Insurance £350 annually. Servicing £260 every 5000 miles or annually. Ulez free. 106g/km Rear axle is fixed so no alignment needed for the rear replacement tyres. Just the front needs upon tyre replacement. My rear brakes get stuck on colder days when putting the handbrake if I dont use the car for a couple of days. I have flat ground parking, so just park it in gear. Also, the start stop feature gives an issue if I press the clutch to restart the car immediately, like on traffic lights. The starter motor solenoid hits the flywheel, and I get a high-pitched grinding sound. My mechanic told me to switch off this feature, but I got a solution. Wait 5 seconds after the car turns off on start stop before pressing the clutch to restart. Never had an issue after that. The headlights are pretty ok at low beams. The high beam has excellent throw. Brakes are excellent. But only during winter they are super sharp Tc

I've had three I10's since 2009. My current one is the 1 litre, a 2016 model. I do general servicing myself - oil, oil filter, air filter etc every year. Takes two hours max and costs about £60 in parts. Although a 'city' car, I drove mine from Inverness to London in a day with no bother. I can get half a dozen 2.4 metre decking boards in it and just last month I completely filled it with paving slabs - it struggled but coped. The dash tells me I'm averaging 56mpg, it’s £20 to tax and about £175 to insure. Given the Governments hatred for car drivers, I intend to keep it for as long as possible. Great little car

Interesting as it was cable operated. I cured the revs issue myself by adjusting the clutch cable as there is a micro switch that detects engine anti stall. I wrote to hyundai GB saying my local dealer had skanked them out of a clutch. No interest whatsoever. Sold it bought a Toyota still got it zero faults 12 yrs

Our 2014 i10 premium 1.0 litre has proven to be a fantastic little car. Wilding exceeded my expectations and still going strong at 90k miles. Few issues and easy to fix, designed to be worked on easily. Rear washer can get blocked if one way valve fails, easy fix by removing or replacing it. Need to replace spark plugs as sensitive to a degraded one with only 3 cylinders. Stretched handbrake cable is a 10 minute spanner job from inside the cabin. We renewed rear callipers, discs and pads at 80k miles to find old callipers had rust inside the pistons - make the effort to pump fresh fluid through occasionally. Delightfully easy to work on.

Had quite a few i10s mainly the PA never paid much for them usually a MOT fail or wouldn't start. The headlights are woeful but be careful using uprated bulbs as the switchgear is not really up to the job. Clutches weak but easy to change clutch cable don't bother with the genuine one buy the cheapest keep it adjusted and change it every couple of years. Handbrake cables don't pull evenly adjust till you just start to see the cables moving. Headlight leveling switch I've taken them apart and to be honest replace them with a picanto part rear calipers don't bother rebuilding them a pair can be hard for under 80 quid and last 4 to 5 years. Engines if you can get a old PA get the 1.1 kia belt engine don't really minds poor and missed services gates belt kit about 35 quid about hour to change no special tools required. Immobilizer isses usually sorted by tightening up the antenna ring or removing the connector and soldering the wires directly. Finally the battery is tiny i swap the terminals and replace the 054/56 for a 063.

Buyers of NEW cars be very careful - The software installed in the latest version of Hyundai i10 to implement Intelligent Speed Limit Assist is unable to recognise the UK national speed limit sign. This means drivers of the new i10 get repeated audible speed limit warnings (very annoying and distracting) when they drive on a road where the national speed limit applies (Motorway, dual carriageway or single carriageway) as the car does not recognise the national speed limit sign and will assume the previous speed limit sign still applies (e.g. 30 / 40 or 50 mph). My Hyundai dealership has requested a software update from Hyundai but they do not know when this will be received (nor did the dealership warn me about the problem before I bought my new car). Carparks with speed limits (5 or 10mph) are also a BIG problem as there is normally no sign when you exit the carpark so the car still thinks the 5/ 10mph speed limit applies on the road. You then get an audible speed limit warning every time the car exceeds 5/10mph until the camera sees a new speed limit sign. This can be several miles later if the carpark is located within a 30mph zone. If there are multiple sets of traffic lights / roundabouts before the new speed limit sign the driver will get repeated warnings every time the car exceeds 5/ 10mph even though the correct speed limit is 30mph. I have to drive 2.5 miles with over 20 audible speed limit warnings before the car's camera sees another speed sign and reverts to the correct speed limit. This is extremely distracting and spoils what would otherwise be a great little car. Until this is resolved by Hyundai I would buy an older model - not a 2023 model.
@michaelkeen5010 Жыл бұрын
I don’t totally agree with you on this, admittedly around town this feature can be annoying, but on leaving an urban area and reaching a de-restricted road the system does emit its warning sounds once, but if you ignore them and continue to accelerate up to the required speed the previous speed limit does remain displayed but the annoying chimes stop until after the next speed limit sign is detected. Mind you there is a dual carriageway near me where a slip road runs parallel to it and where there are several temporary 30mph signs displayed and my i10’s system has detected a couple of them as 80mph signs. An update is required I agree.
@hgihgiu Жыл бұрын
@@michaelkeen5010 Hi Michael - In my experience driving in a de-restricted area generates in the sequence of audible warnings EVERY time the (erroneous) speed threshold is breached. So in a 60 mph zone where the car thinks the limit is 40 mph, you get binged each time you drop below 40 mph and then exceed it again. On a country road this can result in warning sounds after virtually every corner even though you are driving well within the speed limit.
@michaelkeen5010 Жыл бұрын
Further to my post yesterday I had a conversation with my dealer today and was informed that an e mail has been circulated from Hyundai to say that an update to the traffic sign recognition system is being worked on. Good review! I got my daughter a used 2018 SE Go! which gets you a perfectly useful 8" screen with sat nav, bluetooth, android auto and rear privacy glass and side stripes, an excellent version. Put some sporty tyres on and it can be a bit of a hoot I agree, the little engine is very enthusiastic. Clutch was troublesome initially with a very high bite, a good mechanic we know adjusted all the slack out out of it and it was 10x better, quite normal to drive now. Its comfortable to drive and feels like a bit bigger car. Spot on about the headlights, as you say some upgraded +200% halfords ones made the world of difference. Just passed its 2nd MOT (with us) with a totally clean sheet and servicing is cheap. Its also got a decent size battery compared to a Picanto for example. Only other thing is I always take my code reader when buying a car, this one did have some EGR valve codes but ran OK so I still bought it. I cleared them and they never came back, maybe a previous owner used some bad fuel or it was fixed without clearing the codes...

My i10 seized my gear into 3rd and never wanted to come out, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Takes mechanics 3days to figure out gearbox needs to be removed. I think its the 😢damn bad clutch on these cars it comes out that way. Im still awaiting final diagnostics but my feeling is telling me my clutch seized and then my gear selector failed at the same time. Weird car, don't buy it. Buy VW, you can't go wrong there. Hyundai i10 engineers are playing with peoples money.

Timing chain is great but in contrast, its competitor, the VW Up. Its timing belt is rated for ten years or 130k miles. It sure as hell does not take long to change out, and don't forget that timing chains don't always last forever. I've owned both and the timing belt engine is so much smoother. oh btw the VW Up gearbox is absolute rubbish, the Hyundai one is so much better.

Much rather a chain... Belts can just snap

So can chains, plenty of cars with timing chains that have the chain fail, or skip gears as they tend to start stretching as they get worn out. If you do proper maintenance and change out the timing belt it will not snap. Replacing a timing chain is much much much more work as it is inside the engine. @@Howie57

Oil pressure switch failed and leaked on my daughters 2015 i10 1.0. Good points - lots of cabin space. Bad points - slow, weak engine, easy to stall (clutch is very light), grabby brakes, poor fuel consumption (low 40s mpg), built down to a price - way more flimsy than an i30.
