After my leather seated top of the range Ford Focus Ghia ended up going to we buy any car after 6 months of ownership following a crack in the engine at 30,000 miles, I just wanted something reliable so purchased Honda Jazz EX for £5,300 from a Honda dealership in West Bromwich (despite not being a Granny). With the exception of rear break callipers sticking at 13 years old (maybe down to inactivity caused by covid lockdown) and a clutch change and spark plug change at 75,000 miles, nothing has gone wrong with it (and despite its car for OAP status, I actually find it can be quite fun to drive - just wish they had made a Type R version in this country with the huge BHP like they did in other countries). Great video.

I`ve had one for almost 8 years, is it the most glamorous looking car?-nope! Is it the fastest car?-it wouldn`t pull the skin off a custard-trust me! Is it roomy then?-Yup Can I fit two dogs in the back? Whatever his name is above missed the magic seat system, it`s brilliant, especially if you have dogs or a cargo to transport Should you consider buying one, well, let me tell you this, in 8 years of ownership, I`ve spent £160 twice, yup, 320 smackaroonies on brakes (which reflects my style of driving-no I`m not a pensioner) I love mine, 1.4 petrol & it`s the most reliable car I`ve ever owned, (& I`ve had a few-trust me) make yer own mind up!

We've had a 2010 since 2016. Cheers for the heads up on the dull lights. Only other things to add. Driveshaft snapped. Judder was happening before this, if you have a judder while pulling away, also get the driveshafts inspected as well as the clutch. If doing the clutch, do a 3 piece clutch and slave cylinder. Plate above the driveshaft known to randomly vibrate. (Easy fix with a few repair vids on KZbin). Biggest one, seems to have a retirement person's cred. I couldn't care less, if you are also reading this and a fan of the jazz enjoy the car for what it is . Hope this helps someone somewhere.

I agree very reliable, not exciting to drive but bomb proof, pretty economical and super practical. Regrettably the rust got hold of mine and I had to let it go 😢
@Aircooledflat4bug7 ай бұрын
I've owned four of these. You missed the worst area for rust, and that around the petrol filler flap. There is no guard in the wheel arch so all the mud and salt builds up round the petrol flap and filler neck. It needs regularly cleaned out or it will rot. The rear end of the sill in front of the rear wheel is also bad for rusting. Lack of sealer and paint is to blame. The I shift is prone to problems and expensive to fix. It was only used for a year or so before it was dropped for the much more reliable CVT box. Most telling is the fact that the japanese fit never came with the I shift only the CVT. So I shift cars are best avoided.

Had a Mk 1 for six years and went everywhere, even with all the family tucked inside and not one thing played up, unlike a brief encounter with a Golf, an Astra and a Brava. Constant faults and rough handling. Went back to a Jazz Mk 3 and again absolutely flawless, light and responsive. Now traded in for a (ugly ish) Mk 4 hybrid for a bit more power but still want the practicality.

I’ve had a 2 Honda jazz’s. Never had any issues with head gaskets so I don’t know how you have drawn that conclusion. On the 52 plate jazz there was a recall on gearbox bearing. Which I had issues with. Also the clutch master cylinder can start creaking badly but never leaked. On both jazz’s I never had a boot leak. Early Jazz’s had a faulty EGR valve. Honda replaced under Warranty. The Jazz is one of the most practical and reliable cars I’ve ever bought. That good I’ve had 2 and would buy a 3rd
@l_poci_ Жыл бұрын
Hes not drawing any conclusions, hes just referring to mentions online by other people. Your sample of 2 cars really isnt big enough to represent the thousands upon thousands of these things around. @rolandburisch9489 Жыл бұрын
This is not entirely accurate. True, there's no engine temperature gauge but it does have a warning light. At about 1:50 you say that the first thing you know about an overheated engine is a blown head gasket. No, the red warning light flashes if it's a bit too hot and will stay lit if hotter than that. So the car does have a means of knowing if there's a problem. Otherwise it's an excellent runabout for city driving but not really intended for long distance highway driving. Our 2009 model has got 200k km on the clock and it's still like brand new.

You should replace all service parts at correct intervals obvs if you want to maximise a jazz's life, and original service parts are expensive, even the throttle body in theory has a lifespan? at around 120k-150k they can start to go wrong my 2004 jazz is at 135,000 need to replace the entire air box as the cheap screws are rusted and rounded off can't extract mk 2 had a simpler clips based airbox . and I have a haunted ignition system in mine, revs and idle all over the place car revs die off to stall by themselves, sometimes works fine, was quoted by a garage £1100 for a new throttle body! original parts are very expensive on this car. so at a certain age you need the kind of garage that will use second hand or 3rd party parts to work on it and profits off labour, if its even possible, my issue could be an ignition wiring issue, the air conditioning gave up the ghost at around 110k, they need to be well maintained post 120k miles to make the max potential of 200-300k, most are scrapped before 170k in my opinion. garaged examples will obviously fair better.

I would say the only criticism I have of online talk about cars like the Jazz is they assume you are up for pulling the thing apart yourself. The advocates of old cars really tend to be lads who have a reasonable level of mechanic skills, they can run something like this to it’s maximum mileage potential because they don’t pay the extortionate rates many Japanese cars cost to have serious work done on.

What a cracking video! I bought a 13 plate JAZZ 1.4 I-VTEC ES Plus a month ago and loving every moment with it. I've had 8 Hondas over the years ranging from Civics, Accords(hatchbacks, saloons and Aerodecks) and Jazz - the latest one is up among the favourites so far. You Tube algorithm keeps on throowing me 'how to turn your Jazz into a campervan' so seriously looking into it. I paid a wee bit over the odds to get it through a garage and was well examined on the forecourt and test drive before money changed hands. Looking for an Android head unit for it now as the present stock CD/Radio/MP3 unit is a bit too 'noughties'. Fitting into the slightly older driver demographic, the Jazz suits me well as it's comfortable, nippy, responsive and has a comfy armrest - seriously, I've done all the boy racer type stuff when younger so to keep on motoring, Hondas just tick the box for me. Thank you for the view

@@JC-hu1wdPaid £5995 back in February this year with 1 previous owner, FSH, well presented interior/ exterior, clean MOT sheet & 56k miles on the clock. From a used car showroom, the same year and type of Jazz is now available for 2 grand less but with double the milage, MOT issues and worn interior. Drives like a dream with average 50mpg with better performance on the motorway with cruise. Had a '56 plate Jazz a few years ago and loved it until I went through stading water, drew it into the engine and it blew my con rod through my engine block a few days later. The Honda 'Magic' seats are in a league of their own and of all the hatchbacks I've had, the Jazz is the most flxible and spacious with generous leg room for rear passengers. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this model to all generations of drivers - I'm part of that older driver generation as I head to my sixties but I've had my road fun decades ago so it's time to put a sensible head on things.

Have run a series 2008/9 used Jazz i-Shift EX, with all the “bells and whistles”, for 6 years. Reliability has indeed been good, but the battery sucks. Lower cc capacity cars in this class, by other car makers, typically have batteries with twice the capacity. On decent commuting runs it’s fine, but for popping into the village for a paper or pint of milk on a regular basis it soon runs out of steam. An ideal car for the retiree, like me, but if it’s just used for popping down to the local store or Sunday church expect the battery to run flat very quickly…..especially in Winter!! Oh! Yes, had the brake switch fault, but the local Honda franchise had to contact Honda direct before they discovered it. Not before they’d already spent about 6 hours trying to solve the problem themselves. Cost me an arm and a leg! On the up side, the garage did waive the vehicle recovery cost…………….bravo for that!! Oh! Nearly forgot. Great presentation, liked it a lot…………..and that’s coming from a Sassenach! Mind you, I’d rather a Scottish Terrier for a pet than massive Rotweiler……..😉
