Hello Sir, Could give us a small insight as what you have to do to get to that level? What exactly does it mean, are there any priveleges? What is the whole point? What is the distinction between being part of a lodge and part of group of good friends who always seek self - improvement? I am from Eastern Europe, and freemasonry hasn't spread over here. I was born a Christian Orthodox and our Church describes masons as satanists (I don't share this opinion). Thanks.

What kind of work does a 32nd degree Scottish rite Freemason do to achieve the 33rd degree? Who decides if the work is sufficient to qualify for promotion? Are there documented criteria for advancement or is it subjective? Thanks for guiding my understanding of Scottish rite freemasonry
@ScottishRiteMasons
@ScottishRiteMasons 11 ай бұрын
Well, the first thing is that a 32nd degree must first be honored as a Knight Commander of the court of honor (KCCH as we say). In most Valleys (local chapter) all the other KCCH masons will make nominations. Those nominations are then forwarded to the head of the Valley or Orient and then the final determination is voted on by the Supreme Council. The process is similar for the 33rd degree, but the selection pool is of the KCCH masons. There is no documented criteria. But if a Mason ASKS for that honor, tradition hold that he is automatically deemed to be unworthy.

When you join the Rite, you will be made a 32nd (if you're in the USA). My suggestion is to not worry about becoming a 33rd. Find something in the fraternity to focus on~ degree work, community service...whatever. Take the lessons of Scottish Rite and put them to work in your life and your lodge. The work is its own reward and the accolades and honors will come in due time. ~M

What exactly does it mean to find a mentor in Freemasonry? Just finding someone to help you better inculcate virtues etc? I love the idea of being made better by having men to look up to not only who are more professionally accomplished than I am, but also more virtuous and adept at living more meaningful lives. Is that what Masonic mentoring is, or is it more like being tutored in the esoteric symbolism and metaphysical teachings of Freemasons?

Each lodge conducts its own investigation of petitioners, and within the rules of their Grand Lodge, makes a determination on who they will accept based on that investigation. Your condition is not automatically disqualifying in most jurisdictions. It would be up to the lodge you petitioned to decide whether it would be a problem, after they make a determination of how often you "snap," and how those snaps manifest themselves.

He's spot on regarding how you become one. I've been a 32nd for what feels like ever. I've filled out the passport, and the golden passport. But it's unlikely I will ever receive my 33rd. Because I'm just not active. I don't participate in any of the community events the Scottish Rite runs, nor do I participate in the dramas. I've spent who knows how many years sitting on the sidelines and just being quiet. And that won't get you to the 33rd. But between work, and my other masonic obligations in other appendant bodies, there just isn't time to add one more requirement to my life at the moment.

Absolutely not. In fact if you ASK to get the 33rd degree you will NEVER get it. It cannot be bought. It can only be earned. The 1st through 32nd degrees are open to any Freemason. The 33rd is an honor and it is awarded to those who have served the community or fraternity for many years. And your post demonstrates the whole problem with society. "I heard somewhere..." Where? Who said it? How did they know? Are they a Mason or just spreading a rumor? Did they make it up to mess with you? You are jumping online and making rumors worse by saying these things.

I am not a mason but I was wondering if there will ever be any higher degrees in the future? Like, are the degrees set in stone or could they possibly change within the realm of what is already established?

I am interested in masonry, because my great grandfather was a mason, and I have met several masons in my life including a 32°. My sister introduced me to illuminati conspiracy years ago and I've been kind of interested from that as well. It's hard not to look at that pyramid and eye on the dollar bill for many generations seeing the design and not knowing much else about it left only with a general sense of wonder as to its origins.

Degrees have been updated periodically to make them more modern in language. It’s not a “dead” system that never updates. Anything is possible but it’s unlikely we will go beyond 33 degrees.

I’m sure there are individual masons who work for or with those groups. Just like I am sure there are members of other fraternities who work for and with those organization. But as a whole? No. We do not. We are just a fraternity despite tinfoil hat theories to the contrary.

10 sefirot + 22 paths in the tree of life=32 degrees? Thats one theory ive read. Many esoteric schools use the tree of life as a model for initiation including Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and others so it would make sense in my opinion. You think that might be one explanation? Also i want to ask if Memphis-Misraim is recognized as an official masonic body? It has over 90 degrees and they say it in their website and i think it is more egyptian in its symbolism and rituals.

The 33rd degrees represents the 33 vertebrae's in the spinal cord. Once the serpentine energy travels through the 33 vertebrates, it acends into the 3rd eye, reaching true illumination. That's my understanding, but I'm not a freemason, so I could be wrong.

It depends on a variety of factors. The performance of each degree takes about 2 hours each. But if you mean from petition a blue lodge to 32nd degree? Usually 18 months or so in the USA.

Yes, contact your local lodge and let them know you would like to join. If you are unsure where to find your local, there will be a Grand Lodge which looks after the area you live in, you should be able to find this in a quick google search and let them know you are looking to join. We have a saying here in Australia, which would apply most if not all the world over, 2 B 1 ASK 1. Reach out and providing you are of legal age, Good standing and belive in a supreme being then youre most of the way there. Each reigon does things slightly different so i'll avoid going into specifics. My Blue lodge has had a number of members joine recently who have had no prior contact with any masons. Lastly, and this would be great if you did. When you see a bunch of fellas in nice suites at a lodge building, go say hi, I'd like to know about joining. Trust me, The will love it.

Just to clarify, the Master Mason or 3rd degree is the highest and sublime. Appendant bodies is not a continuation of your degrees but rather supplementary learnings illustrated by degrees as well. 33rd deg cannot be higher than the 3rd degree in terms of rank or prestige.
@ScottishRiteMasons
@ScottishRiteMasons 5 ай бұрын
Right. Pretty sure I say that several times in the video. Thee degrees are not really "ranks" even though we call ita rank for shorthand. Each degree has a title, and the titles do not confer any authority, only denote that you have received that degree.

Hey man! You seem like a reputable Mason. I'm a huge fan of the KZbin channel "Esoteric Freemasonry Unveiled". If you've ever got the time, would you mind checking out an episode or 2 and letting me know your opinion on it! Unfortunately the owner of that channel vanished off KZbin years ago after only posting 13 videos. Though his course was left incomplete, I feel it gave me some very valuable tools. I'd be very curious to see what a currently active and reputable mason such as yourself thinks of the channel! Appreciate you bringing more light to the community bro!

My mother and her mothers were eastern stars, and my grandfathers and their fathers were Masons. That being said the degrees represent master levels when they parallel to each other and each of the degree’s at 11 and so forth represents mastery of the one before. I could be mistaken, but I believe the levels up to 99 which represent mastery of the universe are revealed for those who have earned them by their work amongst others and their belief in all! And for reference they’re maiden names were swan, Bingham, and Haium
