9:40 I know you said you didn't want to learn anything about this, but I can't help myself - I was the Social Media Manager for Go Bowling in 2019 and actually walked in the parade with them! Go Bowling is a subsection of the USBC (United States Bowling Congress). Our job was to literally market bowling, as a concept. We also worked with pretty much every bowling alley nationwide to make sure they had any social media support or marketing materials they needed. Most are small businesses and didn't have the budget for that so we did it for free. The guy in the bowling shoe is Mike Aulby, he is a record holder, and he's one of the nicest people I've ever met! Also in the 2019 Macy's parade, I'm 95% sure that one of our bowling pins took down Ronald McDonald balloon lol

"If One Piece blows up again" Actually 2023 has perhaps been the best year for One Piece. The live action adaptation was a shocking success and the anime reached an iconic moment that manga fans have been waiting for for ages. Not to mention the manga is in the final act of the series and is just getting more and more wild. One Piece fans are eating good this year tbh

Luffy is totally an instant classic, this is THE year of One Piece pretty much. Between Gear 5 in the manga, Gear 5 getting animated, and the Netflix show being good and super successful - I haven't even seen the show and I haven't been able to escape it! Also the Goku balloon is absolutely the coolest

I think the best looking balloons tend to be the ones where the pose complements the forward motion of the balloon, if that makes sense. Goku is flying, so his balloon continuously moving forward looks good. Same for Po, whose kick is carrying his momentum forward. Perhaps not the best job of explaining it, but it just looks more natural when the character depicted is engaging in some sort of forward motion.

4:22 Bluey actually has a bonus balloon like Grogu (and Greg Heffley and the Sinclair dinos if we're counting balloonicles): it's a balloon of a balloon, because, since her posture is made like she's running after something, why not give her a balloon so she's playing Keepy Uppy like one of the episodes? It's a fun concept, still does nothing for me too. (The photos of Bluey directly behind the Goku balloon last year were quite funny, though.) edit: i know nobody corrected me, but I think I got the positions of the balloons mixed up?

As someone who has watched the Macey's parade every single year for as long as I can remember, glad to see a youtuber covering it like this! Really enjoy these videos! Also, as a One Piece fan, I gotta say I think Luffy will continue to be an instant classic in the parade. The show you watched as a kid was most likely NOT the show thats getting popular right now. It was most likely the HEAVILY edited american version that made it kid friendly. Entire sections of the story was edited out in that version, and as such it got confusing for people over here and was cancelled pretty early on. But like that never happened in Japan so the show, as well as the comic its based on, just kept going. Now chapter 1,100 of the Comic is releasing next week and theres almost that many episodes of the show as well, and a new English version of the show is being released and is almost caught up to the Japanese version. And like I am caught up on the comic and can solidly say the story is still REALLY good. Some of the best stuff we've ever had and fans seem to be loving it as well. I don't think its gonna be falling off any time soon.

One Piece is insanely unique as a shounen comic/show. Even when many anime today is inspired by One Piece, it still manages to stand out. One big example I can think of is its treatment of LGBTQ characters, and I'm not joking. Characters like Bon Clay or Kiku are treated as normal people. There aren't a lot of (mainstream) anime that show queer characters in a positive light, since many of them still use queer characters as jokes, especially transpeople. It's not perfect, but One Piece is special for many reasons.

I feel sorry for people who haven't watched bluey yet. especially since you didn't show the keepy uppy balloon that was in front of her float! it was the only dual balloon in the parade!! Honestly Bluey is the most underrated - even as it rises to the pinnacle it deserves. It's like Paddington 2 - the holy grail- the greatest entertainment with a moral story that doesn't bash you over the head. seriously it's more for adults than Kids, man - My daughter started watching it at 2 and i would leave her in the room with bluey over sesame street. every episode is a jam. I still cry at the episode where Bandit and chili are building a porch swing while the girls live out civilization as the most perfect juxtaposition of the growth of society and the love our forebears have for us. Watch Bluey. do it.

I did part of my Geography capstone project on the Minnesota flag. I cannot wait for the results. At 0:33 - This flag has an important meaning. The name 'Minnesota' comes from the Dakota language. It means "Land where the waters reflect the clouds." This flag represents that really well. Please check out Lee Harold in this entire process. If there is one person I cannot speak highly enough of, it's him. From how passionate he is about flags in general, his kind demonor, how well spoken he is, just.....everything. He is such a lovely person. He has wanted to change the MN flag for around 60 years and has tried several times - even designing his own flag in 1989 with another person. While that flag (The Star of the North flag) unfortunately was not chosen in the 6, he still is so excited for this change. He gave a speech to the Minnesota commission and it was so entertaining and educational - which I choose to watch in my free time that my husband made fun of me for 😂. He also owns a flag shop in Rochester, MN that looks amazing to visit. I could go on for days, but this man's knowledge really enthralled me throughout my research.

I highly recommend the live-action One Piece. And not sure where you've been, but it's pretty darn popular now because the show was so good. That's probably why it's in the parade in the first place. I've never seen the anime but now I want to because I loved the live-action so much. It's one of my favorite shows of the last few years.

Watching the Thanksgiving Parade is pretty much a tradition for us. My this year's balloon favorites were Snoopy, Bluey with her red balloon, Goku, Luffy, Po, and Pikachu & Eevee. A shame about the Blue Cat one, I thought it was cute before knowing the context about being an NFT thing and just went "Nope, this ain't it chief". Also a bit disappointed they didn't bring back Sonic the hedgehog, I'm hoping they're not just bringing him for anniversary purposes... because their 35th year will be in 2026.

I can understand why people are hesitant when they hear "NFT" but Blue Cat is way more then just an "NFT." That is how the character started but they are doing so many more things and even enounced a cartoon show with the character. So if you think the character is cute I would give it a chance!

The history of Blue Cat is really interesting. The artist started creating that character 10 years ago and NFTs gave it the visibility to partner with TIME, Macy’s and other brands. Most of these brands have also created NFTs including Macy’s, Disney, and McDonalds. It sucks that all the parade merch sold out for Blue Cat, they underestimated that demand.

I marched in the parade this year with the Rutgers band, and seeing the balloons in person was so surreal. It was pretty gusty a couple hours before the parade started so that’s probably why so many balloons were popping. Really great video!!!

If I remember correctly, it was windy, but not windy enough to cancel. That's why so many balloons popped, and also why they were being carried low. For instance, SpongeBob was probably supposed to be upright, but they had to pull him down.
