@gosportjamie9 жыл бұрын
+YourAnjl Usually there is a bit of information and a link to a full story put up on these stories, but often the initial description is based on information released by police at the scene. In this case it would probably not have been possible for police on the scene to determine a likely cause and sequence of events so they could not give any information. Sadly as Christmas is always a bad and busy time for both police and reporters, the reporters may not have had a chance to follow up on this case. Equally it may not have been possible given the available evidence for the police to determine a probable cause and sequence of events. Not every collision can be fully explained to the satisfaction of legality, sadly...

+gosportjamie ok, but Im still confused.. we got a white car that either rolled over, or did it fall off of one of the overpasses and hit the black car which hit something then ended up into the railing?
@gosportjamie9 жыл бұрын
My impression based on what can be seen in the video is that the white Corolla was travelling down the elevated section of road, so towards the camera. The black car was travelling in the opposite direction. If you look at the part where the tow truck is pulling the section of rail off the road there is what appears to be fresh yaw marks on the road surface in the lanes the black car would have been travelling on. I think what may well have happened is that the black car steered left violently for some reason, maybe avoiding something on the road or another vehicle that cut him off. On hitting the central reservation the kerb there launched the car into the air where it travelled into the oncoming lanes and into the driver side of the oncoming Corolla, the impact causing the Corolla to spin to its resting point in the video. That collision sent the black car airborne again as it used the side of the white Corolla as a ramp but also dramatically reduced the speed of the black car so it only flew a further short distance before landing and impaling itself on the rail. The section of rail being recovered from the opposite lanes was probably torn free by the impact of the black car and was then hit by the spinning white Corolla and sent into the opposite lanes. It might sound like the black car must have been travelling illegally fast, but there is plenty enough energy involved at much lower speeds than you might think to produce these sorts of results. Nothing visible on this video makes me think either vehicle was breaking any laws. The driver of the white Corolla was extremely lucky, I have seen cars with much less damage received in a similar way that have resulted in the death of both driver and rear seat passenger sitting behind the driver. I'm not trying to present this as definitively what happened. This is my personal opinion based on my own personal experience as a traffic collision investigator and based on the evidence that is visible in the video...

CRASH CLOSES HOUSTON FREEWAY FOR 10 HOURS Posted by Scott Engle Date: December 21 2014, 9:35 pm in: Harris County (1) Comment Just after midnight Saturday morning a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on SH288 in Houston. As the driver came around a curve merging onto Interstate 45 north he lost control crossing several lanes before slamming into the guardrail. As he struck the guardrail one section weighing over 300 pounds was launched through the air striking another vehicle which was northbound on US 59 entering Interstate 45. That rail went partially through the driver door critically injuring that driver. Another section weighing over 300 pounds was thrown almost one hundred yards down the freeway. The driver of the vehicle which lost control died on impact. Part of the guardrail went through the vehicle. Houston firefighters worked several hours having to cut both the car and the guard rail to free the deceased driver. US 59 northbound to Interstate 45 northbound and SH 288 to Interstate 45 northbound were closed almost ten hours as the scene was investigated and cleared. At one point officers opened part of the freeway but immediately closed it again after drivers stopped in the moving lanes of traffic to look at the scene causing other drivers to take evasive action to avoid hitting them. Even on the southbound lanes several cars came to a complete stop in the moving lanes to look causing other vehicle driving at highway speed to brake or swerve to avoid the scene,

The identity of the male victim, 29, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer T. Tran reported: The victim was driving a black Toyota Camry northbound on the South Freeway when he failed to drive in a single lane and struck a steel retainer wall at a high rate of speed. Heavy steel debris from both the vehicle and the retaining wall was then projected onto the northbound lanes, striking a white Toyota Corolla, also traveling north on the freeway. The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Corolla was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in serious condition.

Personally as a nurse that deals with these crash victims I feel the entireity should be shown. I'll explain why.. Every victim I care for in out trauma ward says I didn't think it would happen to me. When I ask if they had ever witnessed the videos down to bring awareness to drink driving etc, they say yes of course but only the car after the fact. Our editing the ugly painful truth of reckless driving, impaired driving allows the human viewer to remove the human and family affected by those choices, they see no face, no blood. It leaves room to remove the identity of the victim, replace it with a no name, no face, no life object. We see the after, the tombstone, the tears but not the ugly truth of what those choices look like. We watch movies of axe killers, slice and dice movies of actors bring murdered but the truth of life is felt to be too shocking, too gory and disrespectful. The dead suffered, the family left to grieve suffered and their death goes to nothing of possibly saving others lives. We can't do anymore for the deceased but their death can save lives, it's the living that need that wake-up, these young inexperienced drivers that think they are immune to death and severe injury. Although painful for anyone to view how a deceased passed away it is the painful everyday truth. Our sense of respect is askewed in a sense. We seen to not mind seeing cadavers donated to further science and practice for upcoming medical students, nobody sees that as disrespectful for either family or the deceased and the why is because the person wasn't didn't die from a trauma. In every ugly truth of everyday dangers and sad deaths of thousands using that moment to teach, bring awareness, put a human identity to the victim is done out of respect. It's all in how you choose to see it. I'd rather my life is tragically lost in a horrible unnatural way, go to preventing another from that same fate. I just hope how I've explained my view can make you think of the other side of this tragedy. My heart breaks for both the victims and the loved ones that are forever changed by the loss suffered here.

Teddy James: As a retired paramedic (part time) and a traffic accident investigator for a major insurance company (full time), I'll try to answer your question. Yes, in some instances, the deceased is more or less severely "mangled", and/or burned. In most jurisdictions, the coroner/medical examiner can (gently) refuse the next of kin's request to view the remains. My standard response in those situations is "...try to remember him (her) as he/she was". Empathy is absolutely VITAL in those situations.I have seen situations where me, and my team couldn't even recognize all, even most, of the remains. In one instance, all we could use to identify the (female's) remains was a custom made broch, which was imbedded into what was left of her torso. Then, you just offer a prayer for the repose of the victim's soul, and go on to "get the job done" (someone has to).

I personally find it highly distasteful to see Police/Fire/EMS "professionals" laughing and smiling at an accident scene... especially one where someone lost their life. Show the victims some respect... do your job... save the a%s slapping for the locker room. Seems juvenile and it gives those of your coworkers who are actually care a bad name. You may not even be talking about the accident, but given the situation and circumstances... There is a time and place and this ain't it!

If you all, even the public as a whole, understood how much impact these accidents have on our first responders maybe, just maybe the public would not be so judgmental about what we see them do at these scenes. Our first responders don’t mean any disrespect, it is just a coping mechanism for them. I was married to an officer for 13years, his tears, lack of sleep, and mandatory late night calls and visits to our children to make sure they and the grandchildren were ok, cannot be properly explained. The internal pain that they go through lacks words to describe. They carry the images of these and other deaths lock in their minds til they day they die, and no one, but another first responders can understand the looks, the laughter that really means I’m trying to hold it together, the bar meetings where all they can do is NOT discuss the internal pain that they’re going through. If you really want to do something for them, pray for them, tell em a good joke, pass out hugs to them for no reason and let them know, in spite of bad press sometime, let them know that you appreciate what they do!!!! 💜💜💜💦#MAY GOD ALWAYS BLESS OUR FIRST RESPONDERS!!!!

I understand nervous laughter but when you have cameras or relatives of victims or even the general public watching, you keep your composure... do your job... and as I said before, save the laughs and joking for the locker room. There is a level of professionalism that is expected of First Responders and such. When I see one behaving in such a serious situation, it irritates me. I've expressed my opinion on this post. Yours is obviously different. Thankfully, we (currently) live in a country where we are allowed this difference of opinion. That is what makes us "us". Thanks for expressing your feelings.

i was under the impression that when filming stuff like this, that you were to blur anything identifiable like license plates.

Should of got a rotater & just pulled it of the way it went on. Just my opinion. The NTSB will have to investigate due to it being from a possible guardrail malfunction & loss of life. Rip & sorry to their loved ones. 💚

Looks like the theory by gosportjamie further down in the comments was about right on the money. from: montgomerycountypolicereporter.com/crash-closes-houston-freeway-for-10-hours/ Just after midnight Saturday morning a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on SH288 in Houston.

I wonder what these firefighters think when they show up to the scene and see the deceased all smashed up!

dare devel, actually, he did have a chance to survive. It's called "drive safely," which he reportedly did not do. But it still makes me sober and aghast to see the car. I'm sure you felt the same thing when you wrote your comment.

Another, non-informative Scott Engle video. All we know (can see) is that it was in Houston. It HAD to be a high-speed crash, though, from the appearance of the black car!

Don't try to save gas mileage for safety, mass wins most of the time. Buy American and full size!
