This is one of my favorite symphonies. I always thought the horn part here sounded pretty damn high, so it’s good to see the score here to confirm it.

It’s a bflat because the song is in e flat I think. So it’s not too highe but still pretty high
@joonyah8904 Жыл бұрын
It’s a high Bb if you’re thinking horn in F. That’s scored for horn in Eb tho

Me too. I only get to have fun in 2 of LvB’s symphonies. Second in this one and fourth in number 9

A great horn excerpt. Beethoven is credited for expanding the horn section.

I just LOVE this part of the symphony! Sometimes I catch myself singing it during the day. It's just so lovely. Oh, and well played! Great control, articulation and phrasing! Marvelous!

3rd horn for this symphony is one of the most fun parts I have ever played!

I can’t strike a note to save my life, but I love music in general. The horn says to me royalty! This is why it’s my favorite instrument in classical music. Violin is a strong second 😀

Played the second horn part on this back in my senior year of high school. That low horn part is so fun to play

I could just listen to this all day long as my brain feels in the blanks with the other instruments. Such a royal instrument the French horn.

Take this one simple motif and its clever voice variations, involve yourself with it, bathe in it, sense how special it is, and then realize that this is only a drop in the ocean that Beethoven swam in at his leisure.

Man I love eroica so much, this bit almost reminds me of the horns in the second movement of Mendelssohn 4

High school horn player looking to be a professional, how do you have such a good range up high? past a G it gets squeal-y. thanks! also, great sounds, keep it up. :)

More air and don’t force the note, rather allow it to happen.

Take this with several grains of salt however, as I play saxophone and am only repeating what I have heard

The second horn part is - obviously and as is only right - the solo line. The other two parts are simply dressing 😉

I was told that you can actually play that with just the first valve no trigger
@ScottLegerHorn Жыл бұрын
That’s correct, and technically how it would have been played on an Eb natural horn when it was premiered. You would need to hand stop some notes in the first and third parts though

Originally Beethoven called this song Bonaparte after Napoleon since he was an admirer of him until he declared himself emperor of france

How often do you have to transpose Sir?
@ScottLegerHorn2 жыл бұрын
Every day. It’s a skill that’s effectively mandatory to being a professional horn player, but there’s many great resources to learn how to do it.

So I have to play this for an audition, but I am completely confused because your play G as flat even though it’s in E flat and you play it in cut time which isn’t written in the sheet music I’m not trying to be hateful, but I’m really confused
@isaacwilliams9699 Жыл бұрын
Don’t get me wrong that it does sound amazing

Let's clear things up: A written G for Eb horn will sound like a concert Bb, which is written as F for F Horn. The music here is in 3/4, conducted in one beat per measure. (The tempo is written dotted-half = 60 but I think it's a tad faster here.)
