As a practical table for everyday use this surely has some shortcomings, but as a piece of art and engineering it's absolutely stunning.

I'm super confused about why you think this isn't practical? Have you ever had to swap a table leaf before? Smh
@ShrpBld784 ай бұрын
The only thing I can imagine would be if something was spilled but that could be solved with a table cloth
@skaeggo4 ай бұрын
Practical disadvantages: I would guess it's fairly heavy and that you can't lift it by the top, so moving it looks like it would be an ordeal. It also looks like you'll hit your knees on the rim under the table in the expanded position. And the small base means it will probably tip over if someone leans on it. I'm by no means dissing this table - as I said it's stunning.

Impressive. Never seen your channel before, but if this is one of your end results. I absolutely grieve at the lose of real woods and carpentry as my grandfather began practising in the 1920s, the abundance of particle board and disposable furniture is tragic. Yours is an interesting design worthy of craftsmanship and some authentic woods.

Absolutely NUTS! I suddenly have a really strong urge to own this table.... One improvement I think I would love to see is a tapered cut on the bottom piece to give the illusion that the table is thinner than it really is, just like how laptops achieve looking thin as a coin, while they are actually close to 20mm. I can't figure out whether this would even be possible - but it would be really sweet! Nonetheless, this is a absolutely fantastic result as is! Big time congrats on getting past the finish line on this project

Ten years! I remember seeing this all that time ago. That’s a lot of computer time and experimentation. You deserve to do well with this. Good luck! Just think of the journey that wool spinning went through, from hand spinning to the modern factory process. It takes several attempts to achieve this high level of efficiency.

Congratulations on getting the details worked out. I became fascinated with the design the first time that I saw one of these tables. The one that I saw worked very differently. I don't recall the details. It was Italian designed and was very expensive. (More than I could afford at the time.)

Wow! I absolutely love it and it is very impressive i'm very keen to get the plans. However i would love to see another design in the future with some changes too. Going by the measurements, small mode currently seats 4 (possibly 5) people which is a great size. Large "only" increases that to 6 people. not a very big increase. There seems also to be the issue with knee-space. With it deployed to large mode the skirt comes down quite a bit and is only inset 15cm from the edge making it perfectly out of view to strike your knee in if you push your chair in. Sure you can go up slightly in table height but the knee clearance to the table top must not be too much either before it is uncomfortable. I would love to see a 6 panel piece and honestly with some clever storage in the legs i think most would be happy with some of the expanding panels not being integral and automatically deployed so the skirt can be less tall and design simpler.

I think I saw a similar round expanding table with a star in the middle in a video with other space saving/ expanding furniture a few years ago. Seemed like it was from a designer, with quality wood and finish - selling it for huge amounts of money. I really like it - though that amount of complicated hardware could also be it's weak point. Still looks great 🤗

This strikes me as something that could be made into a business. ((I'm too old, but if I were younger ...)) I imagine a team turning out the components and packaging them as kit parts that would find customers. Then imagine those customers building and finishing assembled (or knocked down) products and offering them through local furniture stores. And an experienced team could design variations ....
