I am absolutely blown away by this whole process! The way you completely rethought the central strategy, despite all the work you put into that original hub is inspiring! I'm learning so much and hope to build one of your tables one day!

Amazing design. Can you explain the difference between the starndard plans and the step file plans Thanks
@ScottRumschlag8 күн бұрын
Thanks for the interest. The design is identical but the STEP file plans include a full STEP model in addition to the drawing package, purchase list, assembly walkthrough, etc, that's in all plans. A STEP model is not needed to build the table but some people requested it as an additional reference or for a starting point if they want to modify things for their own application.

Rotate the Rubik's Cube cabinet, and you can release a video, and more people will look forward to your work.

That is an awesome design! In the 3D printing world, I often hear people talk of linear rails. Have you considered using them for your build? (I'm not implying they would be better. I don't know. I'm just curious if you considered them.)
@ScottRumschlag25 күн бұрын
Thanks. Yes, I considered them but rails are expensive, narrow and harder to source for people who want to build their own table from plans. Aluminum extrusions are popular for a reason!

Just found your table and I'm very impressed with your engineering efforts, believe I can handle the woodworking, my hesitation it the metal fabrication. Is there a company/website that I can order the machined metal parts.
@ScottRumschlagАй бұрын
Thanks for the interest. Not currently, but I did optimize for laser cutting as much as possible. Services like SendCutSend, PCBWay, etc (not a sponsor) are surprisingly affordable now. This can save quite a bit of time. Hand drill and tap and other basic tools like hacksaws and angle grinders can take care of the rest of the fabrication.

i am working from last 6 months...main problem i am facing is flatness problem on metal sheets or uneven metal sheet.....So which material Scott used as gusset plate .....?Aluminium or any other?

Wow! I absolutely love it and it is very impressive i'm very keen to get the plans. However i would love to see another design in the future with some changes too. Going by the measurements, small mode currently seats 4 (possibly 5) people which is a great size. Large "only" increases that to 6 people. not a very big increase. There seems also to be the issue with knee-space. With it deployed to large mode the skirt comes down quite a bit and is only inset 15cm from the edge making it perfectly out of view to strike your knee in if you push your chair in. Sure you can go up slightly in table height but the knee clearance to the table top must not be too much either before it is uncomfortable. I would love to see a 6 panel piece and honestly with some clever storage in the legs i think most would be happy with some of the expanding panels not being integral and automatically deployed so the skirt can be less tall and design simpler.

0) How does the table stay locked in the expanded position? Or if you rotate it it becomes unlocked? 1) Need to apply a varnish or some type of finish it looks unfinished right now 2) What about cereal or other debris falling into the mechanism, how can it be cleaned 3) Maintenance: Grease? Wood Fatigue? Leveling the table (if its angled is the mechanism affected?)

Awesome. Most beautiful part is the metal curved arm that pushes out and then brings back a little in the end. One part, two complicated motions.

Absolutely NUTS! I suddenly have a really strong urge to own this table.... One improvement I think I would love to see is a tapered cut on the bottom piece to give the illusion that the table is thinner than it really is, just like how laptops achieve looking thin as a coin, while they are actually close to 20mm. I can't figure out whether this would even be possible - but it would be really sweet! Nonetheless, this is a absolutely fantastic result as is! Big time congrats on getting past the finish line on this project

Hi! Asking detail question: could you take advantage of the rear rotation of the arcs shown at 4:01 to lift the center? It may act the same as the underlying bits, but in a more unified gesture, maybe?
@Tuxedo26803 ай бұрын
Is there a locking mechanism when the table is fully deployed? This is essential to prevent people sitting at the table from accidentally making the table spin and retract during dinner.
