I have the 1999 s1642 model still. My Dad got himself a Deere zero turn and gave me his Scotts 3 yrs ago and that thing still runs like it's brand new. The look is still in good condition and the seat is still perfect. There's just something special when you have a part of history with you that's been around the family for 22 yrs. I first sat on this mower when i was 13 yrs old. I'm now 35.

Hi John's Ranch, I have almost identical mower,but my Scotts is a 46 inch,3 blade,and a 20hp. I would be so grateful brother if you could help me. My parking brake lever just got a flimsy one day and would not let me lock the left foot brake,so I could start mower without having to sit on it. I got up in there and the bar that slides to lock the foot brake doesn't go far enough over to lock or catch the left foot pedal. Upon further inspection I saw on the opposite side (under were gas and reverse are) there's a safety switch and it doesn't quite get pushed all the way when I have brake pedal depressed. Because now my mower won't start anymore. I put new magneto's on it,changed gaped plugs,replaced starter, and when I go to start it,the starter spins without engaging flywheel. I'd appreciate any feedback. God bless.

I am really sorry. I wish I could help you with your troubled mower more. The Scott mower has been rid of it and no longer can look at it. I guess the pedal linkage is bent or worn out, which causes not much movement, and it cannot open the safety switch all the way when you push the brake pedal then the engine cannot start it. I don't understand your new starter is not engaged to the flywheel when you try to start the engine. Did you test the starter as I did on the video the time is around 2:30 minutes?

@@jkk040 Yes I did test the starter,thank you. I could be the valves need to be adjusted? Thank you for taking the time to respond.
@jkk0402 жыл бұрын
@@rockcvn71 Well...the valve adjustment needed when the engine is running rough, but your mower is not startup and running. It needs to start and run the engine first before valve adjustment. If you ever needed the valve adjustment, here is a link to how to do it. The most small engines are almost the same procedure. Thanks kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYOndGeVlLykmLs

Hi @John's Ranch -- I would love your input. I have the Scott's 1742S, I have made it a personal project to get this thing running. I am not handy like you but I am learning. I have a new battery, I have a new starter, new engine filter, new fuel filter and fuel line, and new tires. I am still having trouble getting this thing started. It clicks but it won't turn over. Battery is brand new and jumped, and starter is also brand new. Thinking since starter is new I either burnt it up, or the solenoid is bad. Or maybe ignition. Do you have ideas on if its the ignition switch, solenoid, and where I could buy these parts to replace? any advice for replacing them? I can't find the solenoid. Thank you so much for your help.

If you have a new battery new starter and when you turn the switch it just goes click let off the switch try it again and it just clicks it is most likely a bad solenoid and needs to be replaced either under the hood on the panel where the switch is there on the side or it could be under the the body under the seat against the back you can use a universal solenoid just make sure you get one with the sane number poles either two or four make sure you can connect all the wires like they are on the one you have and then the motor should spin over.
