@jacobmonks3722 Жыл бұрын
@ausgod538 True, but the Nintendo employees on the project were largely in overhead roles (director/producer). Certainly important and high-impact positions, but all the programming and other grunt work was done by the Mercury Steam developers.
@immortallix Жыл бұрын
Are you kidding me? Samus Returns was very mediocre by Metroid standards, not to mention all the Metroid-likes that popped up in its absence. It wasn't even as good as AM2R. Their level design was even poorer in Dread since they didn't have an existing one they had to adhere to. The only thing they improved was the action elements of Metroid, and that's only if you're preferential to Metroid being an action platformer more than anything else. The art direction in both games pale to the 2D ones, and both of em hardly have any memorable music.
@jordancooney6817 Жыл бұрын
@@immortallixReally? It seemed fine to me, and I played Zero Mission and Super first.
@jacobmonks3722 Жыл бұрын
@lordofdoosh Nobody expected it to be as good as AM2R. That was a 10-year project made by some incredibly passionate fans. Money was not the incentive, but love and art for its own sake. Nothing can compare to that. If Samus Returns tried to copy AM2R, it would just be worse by default. Going in a different, more action-focused route was the right call because it made the game stand out more. And for what it's worth, the atmosphere and exploration in Samus Returns was still great, even if the level design could use some work. I think Dread actually improved on basically everything except music. The combat was faster and crunchier, the visuals are obviously better (no match for 2D sprites, but about as good as you could get with the 2.5D approach), and the level design feels more meticulously planned to accommodate both 100% runs and speedruns. Not perfect, but about as perfect as it could reasonably be without just copying Super Metroid.

I don’t think they thought Bowser’s inside story was going to save their company. I think they knew the writing was on the wall, figured out what they had for a budget and picked something within that scope just so that all the employees who worked for that devoloper had the opportunity to continue to make money while looking for other jobs and such. As well as all of the DS (and GBA games I can play on it since it's softmodded). Didn't fixed any of the major pacing issues, the sheer amount of handholding (21 years into the franchise and you make a game this handholdy, specially after how handholdy the previous version was) and in fact it made the story worse by making Lusamine worse (it even removed that weird Nihilego fusion). Rainbow Rocket was just lame, a great concept completely squandered of its potential by being like an hour long and you don't even get to visit any of the worlds where the evil teams won so that you can see how it is there.

I'll gladly be "that guy" in the comments coming to defend Yokai Watch. And Antdude will be surprised to know I was not 7 when playing. I'm an OLD Pokemon fan, and I was getting sick of the repetitiveness the franchise was already starting to suffer from. So I jumped on with Yokai Watch 3, cuz I researched how the western release is a special version with all the content from it's different versions; so much content I couldn't even 100% it cuz I'd gotten my fill before hitting that point. I love alot of the designs and the switch ups they throw at you to keep gameplay fresh. I think the mindset you need to actually enjoy these titles is that IT IS NOT pretending to be Pokemon, the story plays out like an episodic anime, and they make battles play like micro-managing minigames as the monsters do the fighting for you. I've played alot of different monster collecting games over the years and I'd say Yokai Watch is a standout. But maybe my entire opinion is invalid cuz I found TemTem uninteresting.

Pokemon has a deeper battle system and breeding mechanics, but as a series, Yokai Watch does world building so much better. The environments are well designed and truly capture the spirit of discovery like looking for yokai in trees and underneath cars. The fishing and insect collecting are rewarding and feel like Animal Crossing. There are sidequests that flesh out the world and the yokai personalities.Then Yokai Watch 3 has an entire mode separate from the story where it's a dungeon crawler and you can play as almost every single yokai in the game. Yokai that have a 3d model with full animations because Level 5 figured out how to do that on the 3ds while GameFreak can barely do it on the Switch, lol. In conclusion, I'm the guy who actually likes Yokai Watch and it bums me out we never got 4 localized. I can only hope Level 5's upcoming games do well enough that it finally happens.

Yo Kai Watch is one of my favorite series and let me explain why. I played the original game when I was young and loved it. The second game released and it was ok but I stopped caring at that point. Years later in like 2020 I was feeling nostalgic for the series and I learned the third game released on the 3DS... I then proceeded to have one of the most engrossing and astonishingly loaded gaming experiences ever. Yo Kai Watch 3 is a game I swear by and it is a true travesty that no one played it. The series is underrated and I want it back.

Noticing a theme here… Bad game came out on 3DS: “Why didn’t they just launch a better version of this game on the switch?” Good game came out on the 3DS: “Why didn’t Nintendo port this to the switch?!” This is the definition of a Zero-Sum game and this is why people were mad back in the day. The bias was in favoring the existence of the switch over giving the 3DS and its games the credit it deserved.

I'll be honest, the reason *_I_* got into Yo-kai Watch stems from that fateful day when I realized that mainline Pokémon games were going downhill but also that I needed *_something_* to hyperfixate on before November 2019 would come and I'd finally have the opportunity to buy my own Nintendo Switch and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. 36:30 Funny you should say that, Ant - Scarlet/Violet got two of my friends *_out of_* Pokémon (at least the mainline games) as it made them more privy to the likelihood that The Pokémon Company cares more about merchandise sales than about the quality of the games, and I myself am *_still_* waiting for the day it becomes stable, like a kid in the back of the car during a road trip repeatedly asking, "Are we there yet?" And the answer is no, Scarlet/Violet is *_not_* there yet, and it might *_never_* be there ever, so my chances of buying and subsequently playing it are significantly lower than with any mainline Pokémon game prior. If anything, the absolute state of Scarlet/Violet got me to try out *_more_* monster-taming games that aren't Pokémon, and so should You, The Person Reading This Comment Right Now.
@timedyne Жыл бұрын
i agree so much with this comment. i started playing yokai watch because i was also feeling upset with the way pokemon was going. yokai watch is just so much better handled than pokemon imo, and i have been a pokemon enjoyer for my entire life and only picked up a yokai watch game last year. its so sad that all the other yokai watch games are always just assumed to be like yokai watch 1 when that is easily the worst game in the series. theres a reason why yokai watch 3 is so high in price. yes, it was a limited release, but its also probably the best game on the whole system. i also feel like yokai watch encapsulates that childishness of being 10-13 better than pokemon ever has. anyone seeing this reply that is disappointed in the state of pokemon right now, please give yokai watch a shot. yokai watch 2: psychic specters is the best version of ykw2 but fleshy souls and bony spirits may be a bit more accessible at the moment, and if you can get your hands on it (or are willing to sail the high seas for it) yokai watch 3 is probably the best game in the whole series.

I'm fortunate to have all the Yo-kai watch games, except Red Cat Corp. I've only played the first one, but the game made me feel like a kid again, and I look forward to playing the rest. Nintendo needs to release a collection on the Switch, and make these games more accessible to the masses.

@@MTG69 there was a remake of the first game and a whole new game made for the switch, but they're japan exclusive due to level5 leaving the western market because they went bankrupt. however, with the new fantasy life and professor layton games coming out worldwide, i have a glimmer of hope that yokai watch will return to everywhere thats not japan soon.

Hm, you can tell whenever someone played Super Mario Maker 3DS for playing levels vs making levels just based on if they liked it or not. If you pick the game up for making levels, you'd have probably hated it because they've locked everything behind the badly made Nintendo story levels. And then you can only share created levels via multi-cartridge sharing. But that's not a problem for someone who would just want to play levels, because online levels were still a thing on that version.

There's plenty to say about yo kai watch 3! I could fill a 20 minute video with Yo Kai Watch 3 talk! The fact that it even exists at all is *absurd*. I am a YKW fan (fabled few), and I am fully aware that nobody else is. So it was absolutely fascinating watching this failure of a port continue to spiral out of control until 2019. But, basic bullet points: - the localization (names, especially) got progressively worse with each game. Some of 3's english names are about as creative as a word association game. - the game was quietly announced on Nintendo's KZbin and not actively discussed anywhere. I'm not even sure most yo kai watch fans knew it came out. I certainly didn't! And I was one of the only people hyped for it. - I remember physical versions of the game stopped being sold at all major retailers not even a few months into the game's life. Not even Nintendo sold them from their website as of mid 2019. - It came out 3 years after it released in Japan, so like 5 years after it was already done being relevant, least of all in the west. - I think it effectively murdered Level 5's western localization team for a bit there, since they announced that was closing down shortly after the game came out. Yo Kai Watch itself is actually majorly responsible for a lot of Level 5's troubles in that era. - It is maybe one of the most ambitious, content packed games in the last stage of the 3DS lifespans. In less nice terms, that means the game took up almost the ENTIRE BASE 3DS MEMORY if purchased digitally, which was the only venue for buying it not long after it came out. I think it was just under Ultra Moon in terms of size (3.1 GB compared to 3.6). It appealed to nobody. Nobody could play it. It almost bricked my 3DS. and that's just the stuff i know yo kai watch 3 is hilarious thank you for your time
