Fun fact: the English publication of this book plagiarized a ton from the fan-run Super Mario Wiki, and said wiki compiled a massive list of all of the incorrect info that made it to print before it had been properly edited on the site.

In case you're wondering, the games excluded in the last few pages are the edutainment games, which includes the Mario's Early Years and Teaches Typing series, as well as Mario's Time Machine and Mario Is Missing, also Hotel Mario They were literally that embarrassed about them, yet they included the small cameo in Earthbound. Nintendo has an insecurity, I see

Actually it's because those games didn't come out in Japan. Dr Mario 64 isn't there, because it didn't release in Japan. But Nintendo Puzzle Collection which includes DRM64 is. And that only released in Japan.
@alexandercorbett1147
@alexandercorbett1147 Жыл бұрын
I think it's more because Nintendo themselves never made those games, they just licensed them. They were made during an era when Nintendo was way more liberal with access to their IPs (as compared to now when they will just shut down anything made by fans no matter what). During the early to mid 90s, this was when those games, Hotel Mario and the CDI Zelda games, and the 1993 Mario movie came out, Nintendo had little to no say in what went on in those projects other than giving approval to the rights to use anything related to the IP and they were made by independent developers and publishers.

Regarding the long jump in 2D Mario, we do get at small taste of what it would be like in Mario maker 2 (with the 3D World style). It would honestly be kinda nice if they added more of those moves which are still relegated to 3D Mario in Wonder, like the crouch jump going higher then a normal one..

So many mistakes noticed, and yet I'm barely paying attention as i assumble furniture. The festival _Yume Kōjō_ is *Dream Machine* in English, with _Dream Factory_ being the common fan translation. Similarly, _Famicom Disk System_ is incorrect and just an fan name for it (at least by English speakers) as it is always officially called the *Family Computer Disk System*, as the name "Famicom" was copyrighted by Sharp till sometime after the disk system came out. Then the two made a deal so Nintendo could use the name. The Super Mario themed named in Mother 2 is Japan-only. NoA changed them to Tyler, Holly, Sean, Aziz, Rover, bread, and gaming.

As a "local Sunshine hater" I feel like I kinda have to talk about this. It's different for different people of course, but me not liking Sunshine has nothing to do with the completion bonus - in fact, when you've already completed the game, what kind of in-game bonus would even suffice when you probably won't even keep playing the game much after that, without starting a new safe file? To me, the satisfaction of finally getting everything done in a game is its own reward, and a postcard to signify it, while not very flashy, is still all I need to feel like my effort had been ackowledged. But the problem for me is that the path to get there is just filled with so many annoying moments that I just really am unable to bring myself to say that it's been an enjoyable experience. Well, some parts of it were, but other parts just really tested my patience.

I think the reason why super mario usa was ported back to japan was because doki doki panic was a promotional game for the yume kojo festival and nintendo did not own those characters so pretty much every mario 2 rerelease in japan going forward was super mario usa as nintendo doesn't feel it was worth bugging fuji tv to rerelease a game starring characters that were retired after the festival ended when they had a much cheaper alternative to keep the game alive. its similar to how every rerelease of punch out is the mr dream version and not the mike tyson version.

That Luigi render in Galaxy isn't made for Galaxy. If you see the description of the image that is in the wiki that Scott showed, it says that it comes from Mario Party 8. So it was just Mario Party 8 art reused for Super Mario Galaxy for some reason. That reminds me of how the Toad artwork from Mario Party 6 is used for New Super Mario Bros. where literally no Toad other than Toadsworth appears in it. Just search whatever Nintendo press kit around that time and you will eventually encounter the one for NSMB, and see that it has that Toad artwork slipped in there for some reason.

@@jollamaIt just uses fan-made names for obscure characters from the Mario Wiki. The translator thought it would be better to use names English players would be familiar with as opposed to the Japanese ones. Nothing else in it is plagiarized so I wouldn’t call it “filled with plagiarized info”

For a while, the Mario Land games were NOT considered "Mainline" by Nintendo...partially because they were "spin-offs" on handheld and "a step back", but mostly because they were developed by R&D1 WITHOUT series creator Miyamoto...instead they were led by his old boss Yokoi! In some ways, this meant Daisy never got true recognition until Wonder...since at the time it was released, Land was not fully recognized. Has Wario ever been truly recognized mainline?🤔 Also, interestingly, Yoshi's Island IS considered mainline by Miyamoto, but not Nintendo.

Also it's dumb that games like "RUN", or re-releases like "U Deluxe" are mainline, but Yoshi's Island (or 64DS) aren't lol. There's not much rhyme or reason to it. You could argue that Super Mario Land 3 (and the virtual boy Wario Land) play more like Super Mario Bros than 2/USA does!!

23:06 This is like considering Yoshi's Story as Super Mario Bros. 6 because Yoshi's Island had the subtitle of being a sequel to Super Mario World, which was presumably subtitled as Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan.

Take a shot every time Scott mentions how he doesn't like New Mario U. I don't think even he realizes just how much he repeats that same opinion, among others. If you're up to date on Scott's Stash, you'll notice so many recurring talking points. That he doesn't like New Mario U, how Nintendo started free-to-start games to shut up investors, how Nintendo released the Circle Pad Pro to shut up people complaining about a second 3DS analogue stick, Nintendo trying to sell an entire console with the Mario 30th anniversary amiibo, he was the first American to work on Sonic, etc.
